A SHOCKING 1989 QUADRUPLE FAMILY MURDER AND THE LITTLE GIRL LEFT BEHIND TO TELL THE STORY.
As a child, I was known as "Jessica Pelley." When I was nine, I went to a sleepover at a friend's house for the weekend. While I was away, my entire family was murdered. I would spend the next 30 years fighting, crawling, and clawing my way through the darkness. This wasn't just a national news headline, a cold case, or a true crime show. It was my family. And my life. I was the broken little girl left behind to tell this story. I am now "Jessi," in the pages of this unapologetic memoir, set free.

Say "goodbye" to your sleep. This is one of the craziest true-crime-stories-turned-memoirs ever written. For those readers looking for one heck of a story, this is it. True crime junkies, buckle up. This is the untold story of my cousin, Jessica Pelley. And we don't sugarcoat a thing.
BE WARNED: This book depicts real events that deal with violence, trauma, and the difficult emotions experienced by a person who survived a horrific tragedy. Parts may be triggering for some trauma survivors. Does contain some profanity.

What a well told story by the author in collaboration with her cousin who experienced a horrific tragedy. The author wrote in a real life way so the reader could not put the book down! I would try to but was soon compelled to pick it up and continue reading. I would think this book could be a great help to many people trying to heal from life's downfalls. I look forward to Jamie Collins future books.
This is a powerful book about someone who was left broken by events out of her control, and with courage and perseverance- found a way to rebuild herself. I could not put it down. Jamie tells this story with such artistry, you can visualize every scene. It takes courage to tell a story of personal redemption, and I am thankful that Jamie and Jessi took the chance to do this. I have never finished a book in 30 hours, but couldn’t stop with this one. It is a great read!
Powerful. Riveting. Jamie Collins weaves a captivating tapestry, ‘speaking’ in the voices of those impacted by her family’s darkest day. I Am Jessica isn’t a crime story or a sensationalized retelling of a horrific event. It is a deeply personal and emotional journey through 30 years of trauma and loss told from multiple perspectives. It opens the reader’s eyes and heart to the ripples of loss and damage - seen and unseen – experienced by Jessi/Jessica and those around her.
Wonderfully written by Jamie Collins, this uplifting true story is about nine year old Jessica as she finds out her mother, two sisters and stepdad were shot while she slept overnight at a friends house. The public was not aware one family member remained. We see her struggles as she grows into her teen years and adulthood, her strengths and weaknesses, setbacks and accomplishments as the police solve this crime. It's written in each persons words, not just descriptive narrative, which makes for fast reading and a feeling we know Jessica, her family and friends. And we LIKE Jessica. I was a beta reader for this book. Every page of every chapter kept me turning pages and wanting more, seeing this little girl work through her new life. We remember how vulnerable we were at these young years, seeing her learning to trust the adults around her and trying to understand her new reality. This story is never maudlin; rather it shows how our nature (even at nine years old) keeps us moving forward, even when we don't see where we're going. It is positive, inspiring, and so very well written.
