Overview

I Am Not Homer

In this hilarious CD, talented voice-over artist Dan Castellaneta -- who supplies most of the male voices heard on The Simpsons -- demonstrates that he's also a versatile comic performer with flawless delivery and impeccable timing. I Am Not Homer (the title itself is a gag, spoofing a '60s album recorded by Leonard Nimoy to dispel the notion that his talents had been subsumed in the "Spock" persona) collects nine wryly humorous sketches co-written by Castellaneta and his comedienne wife, Deb Lacusta. Together they lampoon everything from insipid talk shows to the enduring Elvis mystique. Our vote for Best Bit goes to the 10-minute "Drive Time," in which the ersatz bonhomie affected by long-married radio hosts gradually dissipates during a particularly trying broadcast. With their deft timing and shrewd observations on pop culture, Castellaneta and Lacusta seem eerily reminiscent of standup legends Mike Nichols and Elaine May. But, the disc's title notwithstanding, Dan still can't entirely escape Homer, who "performs" with Barney, Grandpa, and Krusty the Klown in "So Dumb," a cleverly mixed song parody. It makes a delightful coda to this hour-long symphony of silliness.

By far the most awful attempt at comedy I have ever endured. The skits are devoid of any actual humor. This product makes a great case for the inclusion of "Zero Star" in the ratings system.

I am appauled at the comments on the back of the CD. ''Dan is so funny he makes me cry for mercy!'' Matt Groening or ''You'll plot! or whatever it is non-Jews do when they're amused.'' James L. Brooks. I ALMOST smirked once during the first 1/2 hour and could not go on. I can't for the life of me figure out how this dirt go on a CD. What were they thinking? Did they just show up in a studio and recorded the first thing that went throught their heads? If so, I guess they did not listen to it before production of the CD because man o man is it bad. This review would be filled with obsenities to truly describe how bad this CD really is but it is against the rules. I challenge anyone to listen to this entire CD TWICE. Not gonna happen! Next time I see Matt Groening's approval on something, I will just keep walking. I would have love to give this thing a real rating but the lowest is 1 star and believe me, it's not even close to 1 star. If this CD was a hotel, you would be sleeping in a freezing mud hole with 5 inch spikes digging into you back at the end of an airport runway while wild angry wolverines were trying to tear out your eyes.

Oh my sweet heavenly lord! This is hilarious from start to finish. I listened for 18 hours straight and it is still funny.
