Overview

Young Spaz is an outcast among the other children. They call him names and make fun of him because he is a little different. Spaz explains some of his quirky behaviors to the reader. Although he does not tell us that he has Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, many of his character traits are unique to ADHD. In I Am Spaz, our hero ultimately learns that all the attributes that people make fun of him for actually have a positive flip-side. Spaz learns to accept, and even embrace, the things that make him different. In the end, readers may find themselves wanting to be Spaz too! #IAmSpaz

About the Author

Leigh Macneil is Spaz. After seeing all of the negativity surrounding ADHD, Leigh Macneil was inspired to write Spaz: The True Story of My Life With ADHD in 2017. This book tells the story of Leighs life growing up with severe ADHD while offering science, suggestions, and information to help people who are little bit different find hope and strength from their unique abilities. I Am Spaz is meant to do the same for younger audiences. Leigh, Renee, and their two children currently reside in Lantana, Texas. He works as a sales executive and is still an active, competitive martial artist. Renee Macneil is a former high school English teacher who holds a Masters in English from the University of Vermont. I Am Spaz is her second book collaboration with her husband, Leigh. She firmly believes in the positive message of both Spaz books and hopes others will too. She and Leigh have been married since 2006. They have two young daughters. Their oldest will proudly tell you that she has ADHD just like her daddy. Renee hopes other children will see that this disorder does not have to negatively define you. It is what makes you, you. Renee is a proud wife and mother who enjoys distance running in her spare time.
