Overview

I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love

If you're searching for a dose of party music or feel-good escapism, you won't find it on I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. Lyrically, this debut album by My Chemical Romance is definitely on the dark side; lyrics like "The amount of pills I'm taking counteracts the booze I'm drinking" (from "Honey, This Mirror Isn't Big Enough for the Two of Us") and "I think I'll love to die alone" (from "Cubicles") are typical of the New Jersey band's less than rosy outlook. But like so many angst-ridden alternative pop
ock and punk-pop artists who have emerged in the early 2000s, My Chemical Romance know how to be exuberant and introspective at the same time -- musically, they tend to be aggressive and hard rocking, but lyrically, they're all about introspection. And that combination certainly isn't unique; from Nirvana to blink-182 to Creed -- from post-grunge to emo -- plenty of alterna-rockers have demonstrated that a band can rock aggressively and be introspective at the same time. But if My Chemical Romance are less than groundbreaking, they're good at what they do. Produced by Thursday's lead singer, Geoff Rickly, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love is a generally decent effort -- one that deals with a lot of negative emotions and does so in a very candid way. Some will find the lyrics depressing, but then, rock music isn't obligated to press the smile button 24 hours a day. Sadness, pessimism, anger, disillusionment -- none of which are difficult to find on this album -- are, like happiness, pleasure, and optimism, valid areas of rock expression. I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love falls short of exceptional, but it's a noteworthy, generally respectable debut for the New Jersey combo.

I Brought You My Bullets You Brought Me Your Love is the debut album from the New Jersey based quintet, My Chemical Romance. It combines dark lyrics, edgy riffs, thundering drum beats and outstanding vocals to portray a vivid picture into what seems like the beautiful side of death. The beauty of this album is endorsed in the fact that you feel like you've been let in to a part of the band members lives with lyrics such as "this vanity I'm breaking, lets me live my life like this". One of the things I personally like about this album is the fact it could not be pinpointed into one genre, with a mix of punk, metal and classic rock it is clear that unlike a lot of other bands around, this group have raw talent. With this album & another two works of masterpiece under their (most definetely-black) sleeves, it's exciting to think where they might go next...

This album has a great raw sound to it. From dark to light, this covers it all. A fun and exciting album that is just awesome to hear.

I became a My Chem fan after hearing "I'm Not OK (I Promise)" on MTV ( I know, embarassing right?) But after that I was immediately hooked. This was the debut album from the guys of MCR. With Gerard's powerful lyrics and vocals, combined with Frankie, Ray, and Mikey on bass and guitars, and Matt (who was later replaced by Bob) on drums, these guys rock HARD!!! They have some of the best lyrics I've read in a while, and all I can say about their debut is...wow. I never can pick a favorite song because there are so many good songs!

i liked this cd better than the new one because its harsh and relentless and holds nothing back! and has such creative songs, ("vampires will never hurt you") that one is so cool its like a movie and a song playing out in your head. what im tryin to say here is....BUY THIS CD!!!!

I love MCR sooo mutch!! After I bought Three cheers for sweet revenge I HAD to have more so I bought this one(my mom wouldn't let me buy the new one because it has swears =[) thinking it probably wouldn't be very good. I was totally wrong! This album blew me away.. Ray Toro really did good with the guitars here. The guitar solo in the beginning of "Honey, this mirror isn't big enough for the two of us" was AWSOME! And Gerard's vocals seem to be at his finest in this album(Especially in Vampires Will Never Hurt You)! If you're looking for an album that will blow your mind and rock your soul 'till the very end of Demolition Lovers, this is the album for you.

This is the first My Chemical Romance cd I got, and I was not disappointed when I bought it! I like every song on the cd, which I can't say about a lot of other cds. I think it's better than most bands' first cd, and if you like their newer music, you'll probably like this cd!

MCR (as I have taken to referring to them) has enough energy and pop sensibility to be a fine emo/pop punk band, but the same rapid harmonizing guitar riffs as classic Maiden or Randy Rhoads metal. Despite lyrics that, though vivid, can be a bit over the top (Sunsets Over Monroe especially) as far as somewhat excessive morbidity, My Chemical Romance is as intense as they are talented and super cool to say the least.

My Chemical Romance's first album, and definitely a favorite among the fans. Each song on the album is different from the other. Personal favorites are Our Lady Of Sorrows, Headfirst For Halos, and Skylines And Turnstiles, which is about the 9/11 attacks.
