Beginning woodworkers are constantly stymied by the apparent need for thousands of pounds worth of tools to start their hobby. Once they have the tool, they face a learning curve to understand how to use the tool. The next problem is finding wood to build the projects. Not everyone has a lumberyard nearby.
This book shows you how to build quality furniture projects that can be completed by any woodworker with a modest (but decent) kit of tools in less than two days of shop time, and using raw materials that are available at any home center. The enclosed tool manual explains all the tools and shows you how to perform the basic operations in a step-by-step format.

I bought this for my husband as a surprise. He has long wanted to do woodworking projects, but had little time and no resources to learn from. I wasn't completely sure about the book when I bought it, but I think I hit the mark. He spent an entire weekend with his nose in it and is making a list of tools for his shop. There are a number of neat projects in this book that I am hoping he will build for me and some that would make nice gifts. I've since purchased him a subscription to Popular Woodworking and we've started collecting some tools he will need. He is happy as a kid in a candy shop!
One of the better woodworking books I have purchased. (I own the hard copy.) The instructions are clear and most of the projects are practical. Even the text about wood species and lumber measurements was well written.
Easy to read and understand, filled with multiple skill level activities and information. I would recommend this book to others.
