Simply, those who seek will find. This translation is simple in its wording while still complex and detailed in its explanations - far more purposeful than others (translations) I've read.
This version of the I Ching is written to be a philosophical tool and guide, rather than as a literal translation of an ancient source. It presents the essence of the original in a way intuitively understandable to the modern reader, without 'dumbing down' or vagueness. It speaks directly to the modern reader as a guide to moral principle. I highly recommend it as a first translation, and especially recommend it to those who were put off by, or unsatisfied with, other translations.
The author, Mr. Walker, has written many books which I can thankfully say I own all of them. I recently wrote a review of a Derek Lin book and how precise his translation was. I would recommend Derek's books for that reason. However what I have found is with Mr. Walker's books, they are like works of art, masterfully written to convey the heart and soul of the translation of the work he is presenting. I would not say that Mr. Walker's books are the most accurate translation available as far as word for word type works. I would say that Mr. Walker's translation is most likely the most accurate available as it relates to the heart and soul of the work being translated. He is a master of capturing the intent of the original author and then he has a way like no other to present that intent as a work of art in written form. I would say that in all the works I have read by Brian Browne Walker has been like a visit to an art museum where the artist themselves are able to convey their art to you and Mr. Walker is their interpreter. I can't say enough about his ability to turn words into art pieces...
This is a fabulous little book. It is filled with the wisdom of following The Tao ('the way') in Taoist Chinese Philosophy. The description of each of the 64 readings is simple yet profound and really gets you thinking. If you are seeking sound eastern wisdom about the path you are on in life, its turning points and challenges and also how to deal with them, then this is the book you need! I heartily recommend it.
