A friend suggested this book to me and at first I was hesitant because I don’t usually like the romance genre. But I must say I absolutely loved this book! Yes, all the typical romance stuff is there, but unlike all the others (say Nicholas Sparks), this was charming in such a way that made the two main characters endearing. Usually I role my eyes at the sappy parts, but in I Choose You I found these parts to feel so genuine that I couldn’t help but feel like I was experiencing it all with the characters. There’s also the sports element that added an interesting dynamic to the plot, and I’ll admit, I’ve learned a little bit about soccer (or Football as Jude calls it) since finishing it. Maybe soccer isn’t as dumb a sport as I thought. I Choose You is one of those rare books where I found myself sympathizing with both characters. I understood why Emily did some of the things she did and vice versa with Jude. I also really enjoyed the globetrotting. I don’t think this is a spoiler since the cover has Big Ben on it, but Emily and Jude see the world in the novel, both figuratively and metaphorically. I could go on and on about the things I liked, but the bottom line is, if you enjoy romance or are looking for a really sweet and endearing love story, then do yourself a favor and read I Choose You.
