I Funny: A Middle School Story by James Patterson, Chris Grabenstein, Laura Park

Jamie Grimm is a middle schooler on a mission: he wants to become the world's greatest standup comedian--even if he doesn't have a lot to laugh about these days. He's new in town and stuck living with his aunt, uncle, and their evil son Stevie, a bully who doesn't let Jamie's wheelchair stop him from messing with Jamie as much as possible. But Jamie doesn't let his situation get him down. He practices the craft of stand-up every day on friends, family, and the willing customers at his Uncle Frankie's diner. When Uncle Frankie mentions a contest called The Planet's Funniest Kid Comic, Jamie knows he has to enter. But are the judges only rewarding him out of pity because of his wheelchair, like Stevie suggests? Will Jamie ever share the secret of his troubled past instead of hiding behind his comedy act?
Following the bestselling success of the hilarious Middle School, The Worst Years of My Life, James Patterson continues to dish out the funnies in another highly-illustrated, heartfelt middle school story.

James Patterson has always been one of my favorite authors, so I was eager to start reading his latest novel! I am a seventh grader and found it to be a light hearted, relatable story, and gave me a couple chuckles along the way. It was a great way to escape from the typical serious and sometimes depressing teen novels out there, which I also think are captivating, but don't allow you to laugh along the way. In my opinion, if you don't truely enjoy what your reading, then there really isn't any reason to read at all. I loved how the plot was so relatable to middle school students. Many children have to face their so called foes also known as bullies at school, and the main character taught them how to kill the taunting with kindness. It also showed the everyday struggles of dealing with older sibblings and even parents, and trying to find your niche in the roles of your family. As well, it talked about the complications of puppy love, the constant wonder if the girl of your dreams likes you back. The most important lesson I learned from reading this novel was that you can achieve anything if you put your heart into it and give it your all. If it wasnt for the main characters perseverance, he never would have reached the goals he did and wouldn't have been so successful in blossoming his passion into a future career. I would recommend this book to adolescenrts that are in middle school or about to go to middle school. However, if you don't meet this description and are still looking for a good laugh or a good book just to brighten your day, this book is for you as well! I don't want to give away too much information because I want you to fall in love with this novel as much as I did, without any spoilers. What I am able to say though is that I throughly enjoyed this book and was an absolute pleasure.to read. I give many compliments to the talented authors of the book! Good luck my fellow readers, I can't wait to hear your input!
