Does anyone know
I'm alone here at sea?

A little girl dreams that she's all alone at sea in a tiny boat. It's dark, and the sea is scary. Then she sees the gentle moon, the first sign of God's love. The moon, the stars, and at last the sun lend enough light to lead her back to shore, where she realizes she was never alone at all. God has brought her safely home.

Based on a traditional children's rhyme, Kathy Appelt's poetic text and Debra Reid Jenkins' imaginative and dramatic paintings, accented in gold leaf, convey a sense of mystery and wonder and make this book a perfect illustration of God's abiding love.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Publishers Weekly
"A favorite nursery rhyme becomes a testament of God's love in this picture book adaptation. While imagining she is adrift at sea, a girl recognizes the presence of God in the stars that show her a path, the wind that fills her sail, and the dove who leads her to shore. By book's end, she is confident that ‘God will be with me wherever I go.' "
Children's Literature - Joyce Rice
Childhood memories are filled with poems and songs. Most adults will remember the poem that reads, "I see the moon, the moon sees me, God bless the moon and God bless me." What if you were a young child, adrift at sea in a tiny boat? Would you be comforted by the moon and by the God who made the moon? Would you understand that God could quiet the stormy sea, bring the sun up in the sky, cause the wind to fill the sails on your little boat, and send a dove to lead you back to dry land? These are the thoughts of our young character as she concludes that the next time she goes sailing, she will remember that God is with her wherever she may go and that the God who made her and loves her also loves the moon and the sea. This is a very comforting story to share with young children, especially at bedtime or other times when they may feel uneasy being alone. The bright, smiling face of the child is the face of every happy preschooler. The illustrations, created from gold leaf and pastels, draw the reader into the story as it unfolds. The oversized board book format makes it easy for a child to hold and turn the pages. Reviewer: Joyce Rice
