About the Author

Gary McCollum is a husband, a father, a minister, and a businessman—in that order. He’s a former Army Ranger, having served his country for 8 years, from 1981 to 1989. To say Gary is passionate about helping people would be an inglorious understatement. His desire to serve the Lord and His people cannot be quantified, and it shows through his constant contributions to his community of Hampton Roads in Virginia. As a philanthropist, an associate minister, and a public speaker, Gary offers himself in every way he can in pursuit of being a blessing to people. It is his hope and prayer that I Still Do, his first published book, will be just that—a blessing to couples everywhere.

After retiring from his position as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cox Communications’ Virginia Region, Gary ran for the Virginia State Senate in 2015. All though he didn’t win the election, his experience with running validated his belief that the Civil Rights Movement of our time is economic equality. Gary is the founder and CEO of TM Gary Associates. He is also the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including the Volunteer Hampton Roads Lenora Mathews Lifetime Achievement Award, the National Cable Telecommunications Association’s Vanguard Award for Operations Management, and the NAACP Trailblazer Award, yet his proudest achievement by far is the “Best Teacher Ever” award, given to him by his six-year-old daughter for being a homeschool dad.

Gary has two beautiful biological daughters, one beautiful God-given daughter, one handsome grandson, and he has been married to his beautiful wife, Cookie, for over 26 years. He currently resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he enjoys living by the water and visits the beach every chance he gets.
