Overview

The third release from singer/songwriter Hilary Weeks is her best effort. Producer Kenny Hodges notes her improvement both as a songwriter and as a singer in the album's promotional video and this reviewer agrees. Weeks is exploring new territory as a songwriter, including some of her fears, as in the song "A Song to Sing," and she definitely sounds more confident in her singing. Though she explores some deeper insights lyrically, she has not strayed from her easy listening praise & worship style. The album features 12 tracks that are a good mix of upbeat and introspective pieces. Fellow Northern Voices singer and a soloist in his own right, Brett Raymond joins her for a touching testimony to the Holy Spirit in the duet "More Like a Whisper." The lyrics, penned by Scott Krippayne and Steve Siler, contrast the different confirmations from the Holy Spirit: "Sometimes the mountain moves/And is thrown into the sea/Sometimes the lightning strikes/And a vision comes to me/But sometimes it's more like a whisper/Quiet and gentle, peaceful and still/When questions rain down like thunder/Sometimes the answer is more like a whisper." Fans of Twila Paris are sure to appreciate Weeks' cover of the evergreen "What Did He Die For?," which turned out to be prophetic when the album was recorded, as the 60th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor was still months away and the terrorist attacks against the United States of September 11, 2001, hadn't yet occurred. Fans of Paris and Amy Grant alike will continue to find much to enjoy about Weeks' effort.
