Overview

What inspired us

One afternoon, our family was watching a Government update on the coronavirus circuit breaker on TV at home. I let out a sigh about having to be confined indoors for days. RaeAnne, our daughter suddenly blurted out, "What's so bad about staying at home? I think I quite like it!"

Our daughter's perspective about the pandemic shed new light on the challenges of having to manage working from home and home-based learning. We decided to make an effort to find joy and delight in our family time together, cooking meals, playing games, taking outdoor walks, cuddling in bed and creating memories with one another.

This book is dedicated to the healthcare workers, who show our children who true heroes are as they risk their lives to protect ours in the midst of the pandemic. We also want to express our gratitude to the palliative team of doctors and nurses who cared for my sister with compassion before her passing early this year. We thank you for making this last memory of her one of dignity and grace.

This book is in loving memory of my late sister, who had put up a tough fight in her last days, and showed us what true courage and compassion is. Her legacy lives on forever in our hearts.

We hope this book will inspire you and your children to find hope and emerge stronger in the midst of challenges.

About the Author

Hi, I’m Lynn. I am a happy mother and teacher who is deeply passionate about educating young children. I have been an educator for more than 20 years in Singapore, and my passion for early childhood spurred me to pursue a Masters in Early Childhood in Sydney, Australia. It was over in Australia that I was greatly inspired by best practices such as Reggio Emilia, Montessori and Project Approach. It has drastically changed my view of children and how children learn. This shift in thinking has impacted my work in curriculum planning and pedagogy as well as my parenting as a mum. I also founded the Playhood blog where parents and educators can draw ideas on how to make learning fun for children and bring the joy of play back to their children.
