Overview

Rising from the ashes of Boston's long dormant literary community a powerful novel propels an unknown college student to the forefront of an American renaissance.

Ryan Gibson, the author of the groundbreaking novel Ian Baxter, is a fringe member of a group of artists who frequent the infamous apartment of Clayton Cooper, an elitist writer of little success but great influence. Cooper's disdain for Gibson's work shatters the group and spawns a second great novel of the period by Gibson's best friend Thomas Campbell.

In the midst of the firestorm, an American police action in Korea draws Gibson to the horrific killing fields of South Korea. He returns a shell of himself, a battered and reluctant voice of a generation he could and would never identify with.

Gibson's suffering extends to three tumultuous relationships that only add to his staggering burden as possibly the American writer of the century. A lifelong nemesis reenters his world and tries to destroy what little life he has left. Their struggle is fierce and all consuming. Only one will survive the war of words and actions that defined their relationship. Ian Baxter is the answer to questions that should never be asked.

â¿¿Ian Baxterâ¿¿ is a literary masterpiece encompassing all aspects of a well-crafted novel. Crowleyâ¿¿s plot twists and turns leaving the reader wondering from beginning to end where our conflicted hero and protagonist, Gibson, will end up next. This is a story about love and revenge, but ultimately about self-discovery. Crowleyâ¿¿s first novel is a clever combination of fiction mixed with the truisms of a troubled youth growing up in Boston and surviving in todayâ¿¿s society. Through Gibson, Crowley allows his own voice to be heard, creating yet another layer of depth to this already complex â¿¿book within a book.â¿¿ â¿¿Ian Baxterâ¿¿ is a powerfully unique novel of its day and something the literary community has been waiting for!

Scott Crowley captures the angst and essence of the creative genius in his title character Gibson, the author of 'Ian Baxter,' a book within a book. Gibson, the out-of-the-box first time smash hit writer is a reluctant and very confused hero, in a sea of complicated people and challenging situations, including a relentless struggle in a devastating war. At times the novel moves quickly, at other times the reader must slow down and even stop to absorb the powerful shots of emotion that Crowley offers up. A very moving and thought-provoking read with a surprising ending, I recommend 'Ian Baxter' to the serious reader.
