I love Scottish Highlander novels but I couldn't wait to finish this one. It is tedious to try to read a book that uses a Scottish dialect so much. The story was contrived and predictable and did not seem well researched. The main characters were stubborn and pigheaded full of stubborn ill conceived decisions. Fortunately, I am done

Susan Tisdale wrote a "forever" book. Like a history book, each storyline of Rose and Ian takes you into their life. And there is no end in sight!!! I put the story aside, more than once! I found the violence, mature reading matter, and romance here overwhelming.

If you like a story with a bit of romance, this is a wonderful read! Suzan does a great job of incorporating some mystery into the plot. I'll not give anything away, but there was a twist I was not expecting. Great job there, Suzan!

Ian Mackintosh loves Rose McLaren with all his heart. He can't imagine life without her. Their romance is off to a rocky start when he decides to break his secret troth because he can't give Rose material goods. This romance explodes with passion and drama that left me wanting more. I love it. Rose is so feisty and full of life. She's more than a match for this Highland warrior. Now they face a new challenge when they go to McLaren lands where he'll be Chief until ten year old Ailrig, Aggie's son, comes of age. Ian is ready but is Rose? These characters are so full of life that they leap off the page. I was quickly pulled into their adventure. Suzan Tisdale writes a story that is filled with passion, true love and treachery. The author shows the beauty and harshness that her characters face as they build a new stronghold as well as the death and betrayal that they endure brought on by greed and hate. This is an amazing story that is the start of a new series. I felt as if I were in the center of the action. I loved Ian. His fierce pride and stubbornness is tempered by his gentleness and caring for Rose. I love the setting, the dialogue and the fast moving storyline. I'm looking forward to the next release. I received a copy in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

I was given an advance copy of this book in exchange for my review. Newlyweds Ian and Rose MacIntosh return to MacLaren lands to rebuild the lands, clan and keep destroyed by the previous, evil laird Mermadak. Working in less than ideal conditions, living in tents and dealing with the mud and rain, tired to the bone from the hard work of quarrying stone and building temporary cottages and a new keep, the new clan lets their focus shift from maintaining a strong guard to accomplishing as much as possible before winter weather halts all building activity. The leader of the rival Clan Bowie sees his opportunity and attacks, killing many MacLarens and taking a heavily pregnant Rose hostage. Desperate to get his wife and unborn child back, Ian will do anything to get his wife and unborn child back. But will the price the Bowie exacts be too high and will Ian be too late to save Rose and his child? Will the McLarens fall to the machinations of a madman just as they are on the brink of regaining their foothold as a unified and thriving clan once again? This is a great love story with all the drama, political intrigue, betrayal and suspense you expect in a top-notch Scottish historical novel. The dialogue is witty, historically and contextually appropriate and helps to really transport the reader to the Scottish Highlands. More dramatic than the growth of the love between Ian and Rose, however, is the personal growth of Ian himself. At the beginning of the book, Ian is a lost soul suffering from "second son syndrome" with no real sense of purpose in life. However, over the course of the events in the novel, Ian transforms into a true leader who compels loyalty not through right of birth, not through intimidation or riches, but through sheer force of personality. He is a laird in every sense of the word. Tisdale does a masterful job of describing that journey. Since I hadn't previously read "Frederick's Queen," this book was a little difficult for me to get into in the beginning, but once I got through the first few chapters, I simply couldn't put it down. Anyone who loves Scottish historical romance will love this novel, and I can't wait for "The Bowie Bride" to continue the tale!

Wonderfully written Highland story. Ian and Rose are both strong willed but sensible. They had tempers but were able to quickly work things out with each other. Much great love. Series is really good.
