The Ice Cream Girls by Dorothy Koomson

As teenagers Poppy Carlisle and Serena Gorringe were the only witnesses to a high-profile murder. Amid heated public debate, the two seemingly glamorous teens were dubbed "The Ice Cream Girls" by the press and were dealt with by the courts-Poppy headed to prison after being convicted for murder and Serena was set free.

Years later, after having led very different lives, Poppy is keen to set the record straight about what really happened. The only problem is she has no one to turn to and no clue where to begin her hunt for Serena.

Meanwhile, Serena is married with children and wants no one in her present to find out about her past. Constantly looking over her shoulder, Serena knows she should come clean to her husband, however, she can't seem to find the words.

With Poppy determined to salvage what's left of her reputation, Serena may not have a choice in reopening a can of worms that may threaten both their lives...again.

I liked how it would go back and forth between the two main characters. Good ending.

I'm not sure if I exactly recommend the book, simply because the subject matter is so disturbing and probably very realistic as to what happens in situations of teacher-student relationships. It gave me insights into why these things happen as well as what prison is like, to a degree, but it certainly wasn't a book that makes you want to go whistling through the rest of your day after you finish it. It is clearly a well-written and researched book though.

Sighs. She sheaths her sword and face palms. She turns around. "Sorry about that. I should just take you back to camp." She returns to camp.

The topic could be disturbing for some as it deals with an intimate relationship between an adult teacher and two teenage girls. However, I liked the book and I think that it would create some great discussion in a book club setting.
