Overview

Ideas Have Consequences by Richard M. Weaver, Frederick Davidson

In what has become a classic work, Richard M. Weaver unsparingly diagnoses the ills of our age and offers a realistic remedy. The world, he asserts, is intelligible, and man is free. The catstrophes of our own age are the product not of necessity but of unintelligent choice. A cure, he submits, is possible. It lies in the right use of man's reason, in the renewed acceptance of an absolute reality, and in the recognition that ideas - like actions - have consequences.

I picked up Ideas Have Consequences just browsing and it is one of the most valued finds I have. Weaver was a philosophical genius and a brilliant writer. Though written in the late 40's, the material seems to apply to this time and situation. The ideas within are very much timeless. Weaver does a good deal to cut through to the core issues of the health of the mind of the individual and the society.
