I chose to read, If I Were To Train A Horse by Jack Brainard because I heard a lot of good things about it from my professors when I was actively earning my Equine Science Associates degree. I felt that this book would help my hobby of training horses. Immediately this book became very enjoyable, and it was hard to put down. This book is valuable in my opinion because I find it very applicable, and quotable. One thing about training horses that a lot of people have a hard time with is reprimanding horses long after the unwanted behavior happened. Brainard says, “Watch him and he will tell you. Always remember that the best time to correct a problem is before it happens.” I have numerous things highlighted in my book along with some footnotes. His concepts are easy to understand and easy to put into practice. Along with Brainard’s memorable lessons, the illustrations by Justin Wells presented throughout the book are really nice to look at and admire. The font and size of the text make it very easy to read. Overall this book has secured its spot on my bookshelf and I look forward to reading more from Jack Brainard.
