If I Were You by Lisa Renee Jones

In the bestselling style of Fifty Shades of Grey, New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones delivers sexy thrills and heart-pounding sensuality—in a tantalizing page-turner in which the eyes of a high school English teacher are opened to a world she never knew existed, and a passionate craving within that she never knew she possessed.

The journal comes to Sara McMillan by chance, when she unexpectedly inherits the key to an abandoned storage locker belonging to a woman named Rebecca. Sara can’t resist peeking at the entries inside…and finds a scintillating account of Rebecca’s affair with an unnamed lover, a relationship drenched in ecstasy and wrapped in dark secrets.

Obsessed with discovering Rebecca’s destiny after the entries come to an abrupt end, Sara does more than observe the players in the woman’s life; she immerses herself in the high-stakes art gallery world Rebecca inhabited—and is magnetically drawn to two men. Which one will seduce Rebecca with his masterful and commanding touch and bring her fantasies to exquisite life? On a daringly erotic escapade, Sara follows Rebecca’s path to fulfill her own hidden longings. But after she tastes the forbidden pleasures Rebecca savored, will Sara be helpless to escape the same submissive fate?

IF I WERE YOU by Lisa Renee Jones is an erotic thrill ride. Sara is a school teacher that finds herself reading erotic journals found in a storage unit bought by her friend and neighbor. The neighbor is being wisked away by her new man and leaves the contents of the storage unit including journal’s of a woman Rebecca’s detailed sex life to Sara. After Sara reads the haunting words in the journal she fears something terrible may have happened to Rebecca. That is when Sara devises a plan to step into Rebecca’s life and work at Rebecca’s old job. That is when all the fun begins! This book is a great read. It is a cliff hanger of a book though, but 2 more books will be out in the series along with short stories that include the journal entries. Ok. Great book. But kind of expensive to be given only a third of the story! When will the next one be out? This really sucks. It's like reading a really great book and then you find that a BIG portion is missing! It's agrivating! I'm sure there must be a method to this author's madness. Maybe make you forget that by the time the next portion of the book is released you will forget that you paid over $7 for only part of the story! That's a pretty expensive book!!! So.....I suggest you wait until they all come out so you can figure out if the entire story is worth over $20!!! I'm giving it one star because i shouldn't be feeling so agrivated when i get to the "end" of the book. Don't think i'll be buying the other part of the story......

Wow, just wow. This novel is "50 shades of Gray" meets suspense. The characters are very well written. I like that both the main characters are damaged, they seem more realistic. The book definitely grips you. I've been wanting to read this novel for quite some time, I'm glad that I finally picked it up. I could barely put the novel down, it's a roller coaster ride through the seasons. You have the red hot summer, the simmering down of fall, the dead ice of winter, and the laughter of spring. You get to experience everything in this novel. It is quite interesting. The ending is definitely a cliff hanger. If you are one of those individuals who demand closure, do not read this book until the next novel is out.

Well developed story and characters. This was a difficult book to stop reading. You just had to find out what happened next. The male characters quite sexy. Weeks after finishing the book still thinking about the story. The ending horrible; it's difficult having to wait a year for the sequel! On the same level as 50 Shades of Gray but written for a mature, educated audience.

Fantastic! Love the idea that a simple storage unit can change the lives of these characters. Very sexy, romantic, heartbreaking at times and full of suspense. I could not put this book down. I kept putting off reading this book because I wasn't quite in the mood for a Fifty Shades themed series. What a mistake that was! This series really holds its own and is very different than FS . I dare to say that I liked it even more. As soon as I finished, I purchased the next book because I needed to know what had happened next. This is a must read!

I took a gamble with If I Were You. I was given the opportunity to review book 4 of the Inside Out series for free-so in order to be able to do that I needed to catch up and read the first three. I purchased all three in the hopes that I would not be disappointed. I was a little nervous but I was very pleasantly surprised. I like this book on so many levels. First of all the drama isn’t too over the top. In so many romance novels the two main characters seem to have an endless amount of obstacles to overcome-most of them seem so insignificant but are built up to epic proportions. I didn’t want to roll my eyes once. I also found it refreshing that there wasn’t a lot of heat in the beginning, but once it started it was smoldering. Finally this was more than just a romance novel there is true mystery and intrigue and the ending will have you saying… What!!!! The characters are all complex. You have Mark the powerful and commanding boss that seems to have a hidden agenda. There is Chris the tortured artist with a dark side, who wants to be a white knight. You have Sara, the school teacher who feels a kinship to a mystery woman and in trying to help her, is realizing that she could make her own dreams come true. And finally, there is Rebecca, the mystery woman whose words are haunting and whereabouts are unknown. There are several references to Sara feeling like Alice in Wonderland, but to me it seems more like she’s opened Pandora’s Box. This is a must read for anyone tired of traditional romance novel.

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to Lisa Renee Jones, and her publicist.) When Sara’s friend dumps a storage unit full of crap on her and elopes, the last thing Sara expects is for this to lead to a job opportunity. Reading some erotic diaries found in the storage unit though, Sara sets about trying to find the owner of the stuff in the storage unit in order to return it, and gets more than she bargained for. When the owner (Rebecca) turns out to be on a limitless leave of absence from her job at an art gallery, Sara sees a way in and offers to step in for Rebecca over the summer while she herself is on summer holidays from her teaching job. Her degree is actually in art, and this kind of job would be a dream come true for her. Another thing that Sara wasn’t counting on is Chris – a famous artist whose work is sold at the gallery where Sara begins to work. He seems to take a shine to Sara, and makes an effort to spend time with him. Is working at the gallery really what Sara needs? What does Chris want with her? And what happened to Rebecca? Let’s start by saying that this was a very naughty little story, and definitely an adult one! Sara is a great character, who goes out of her way to try to find Rebecca, but is also intrigued as to who it was that Rebecca was having such a steamy affair with. She’s pretty conservative, but at the same time doesn’t shy away from the fact that she finds Rebecca’s erotic diaries a turn on. It is difficult to really know where Sara’s passion is going to flow in this story, as not only does she have the tortured artist Chris taking an interest in her, but also the gallery owner, who certainly seems the type to dominate a relationship! The Love scenes between Chris and Sara are very steamy, with the perfect amount of heat and teasing, and a tasty hint that things could develop further! The relationship is not 100% what Sara expected, but things progress and satisfy her immensely, and Chris manages to maintain his sexy, dark horse appeal throughout. There is both drama and intrigue in this book, and quite a few suspense-filled moments. The ending leaves us with a bit of a cliff-hanger unfortunately, but gives plenty of excitement and suspense for the next instalment! I can’t wait to find out what happens to Sara and Chris in the next instalment, as well as getting just a bit closer to finding what happened to Rebecca! Overall; a naughty, erotic romance, with a hint of mystery, and plenty of excitement! 8.5 out of 10.

**I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review** 5 stars! When high school teacher Sara McMillan is left with an auction storage unit her good friend and neighbor Ella bought, she is at a loss at what she should do with it…that is until she is introduced to diaries of Rebecca Mason and the deep dark secrets that are written within her diaries.  Suddenly, she has a driving need to find out more about this mysterious woman and her passionate relationship with her enigmatic lover and the fiery passionate affair they share.  Sara is thrust into a world of bondage, subs, and doms…and control. In researching the life that Rebecca seemingly disappeared from, Sara is lead into a life that she could only dream of – the only problem is that its Rebecca’s life.  Sara goes to the art gallery where Rebecca worked upon vanishing, and by chance she meets the manager of the gallery, Mark Compton, who ends up hiring her to replace Rebecca while she is out on “hiatus”.  She is also introduced to the tormented Chris Merit, there is an instant connection between them.  But as Sara starts to investigate upon starting work at the gallery, she suspects that either Chris or Mark to be the “Him” written in to the steamy diaries…the man that consumed and possessed Rebecca to her brink. Through her many interactions with Mark and Chris, she finds herself freed to start really seeing what she wants in her own life…and in her love life.  While Chris begins to pursue her, Mark tries to dominate and control her.  But through it all, she keeps up with her investigation of what happened to Rebecca, and where did she go? This book was S-T-E-A-M-Y!  Not overly graphic or unpleasant, but it was intense and engaging.  The relationship that blooms is amazing – two people who find who they want to be with and going after them with full force was hot!  But what made this book more than just another “mommy porn” book was the story – about Sara and Rebecca.  The similarities and differences who made them both who they were was great – and in her quest to seek the truth, Sara finds more than just a few clues about just what happened to Rebecca.

"If I Were You" is the story of Sara - a school teacher embarking on a mysterious journey over summer vacation. She finds the journals of Rebecca and becomes curious about her and Sara decides to investigate. This leads her to Mark and Chris. I thought there would be a triangle, and although it seems as like it could be - each man warning Sara off the other, there is explosive chemistry between Sara and Chris that cannot be denied. They are HOT! HOT! HOT! I liked Sara - although maybe a bit on the shy side and not all that worldly, she wasn't the typical innocent, virginal heroine that doesn't have a clue! And how could I not love Chris - he is alpha, sexy and oh so yummy! He has his secrets though and that certainly keeps us off kilter a bit. I loved the mystery of Rebecca and cannot wait to find out what has happened to her! Just a warning -- this book is a cliffhanger. That being said, I enjoyed this one and I cannot wait to read the next one to hopefully get some answers as to what happens to all the characters involved!!! Thank you, Ms. Jones, for a thrilling and exciting ride so far!

Too many plot spoilers. One named lisa lou even went so far as to quite passages. Really? I mean, come on...giving away the entire plot is bad enough, but quoting complete passages is too much. Bn, something has to be done to these plot spoilers. People are sick and tired of the entire book being destroyed by these rude ppl. Cant they be banned and their posts be deleted????

I truly enjoyed this book. Although its compared to Fifty, I found it more similar to Bared to You...since they both are 'broken'. I can't wait for next book... I wish this one was longer..... and I can't wait to find out who's Rebecca's boyfriend!

If I Were You is the first installment in Lisa Renee Jones’s adult romance series titled Inside Out. It’s got secrets, mystery, intrigue, troubled characters, and romance, along with some dark themes that are about to get darker I’m afraid. Actually, I’m not afraid – it’s been too long since I've had a strong, darker story make me flip the pages so fast. The mystery element has me drawing conclusion after conclusion, and just when I think I have a solid theory about what has happened, some little tidbit of information is revealed that suddenly makes my theory seem less likely. I'm sure it sounds frustrating, but it's soooo not. I'm loving every second of it!  The genres listed for this book include romance, erotica, BDSM, contemporary, mystery, and suspense. With this book, the reader is just at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the erotica/BDSM elements, so we’ll see if I continue to enjoy the series as much as I hope I will once this element is fully introduced. I am typically very picky about erotica; I will DNF in a second if it’s just random sex scenes just because. But so far, the story is strong, the character development is growing increasingly thorough, and I am optimistic this is a winning series for me. Even if for some reason it’s not, it’s a damn good start. My favorite quote: “Other people’s perfection is a facade we create when we are second guessing ourselves...”

I am totally in with wanting to find out whats next. Great sex and a suspenseful reading. With some reminders of Fifty Shades of Grey, in a new plot. I found a new author I like a lot. 4 star

Chris and Sara two tormented souls which have spent there ives running away from their insecurities, nightmares, and the darkness of the past. The deepest darkest secrets one holds tight to ones heart and guards them for eternity. Fate had a different plan for them. Together they shall find a way to overcome the torment and darkness from the past. The author has a spectacular way of describing the characters emotions and entwining them with the past and present through Rebecca's journals, Mark's Art gallery, Allure and music. It's a roller coaster ride and if you're ready for the adrenaline rush step on but be warned, you will be changed forever.   The excerpt below is from the book and I loved how she used a few songs to describe Sara's internal struggles and emotions. Spellbound, I walk forward, enchanted by the twinkling night lights and the haze surrounding the distant Golden Gate Bridge. We are above the city, untouchable, in a palace in the sky. How amazing it must be to live here and wake up to this view every day. Lights twinkling, almost as if they are talking to one another, laughing at me as they creep open a door to the hollow place inside me I've rejected only moments before in the elevator. I swallow hard as the song "Broken" from the band Life-house fills the room, because Chris doesn't know how personal it is to me. I'm falling apart.  I'm barely breathing. I'm barely holding on to you. This song, this place with the words, and I am raw and exposed, as if cut and bleeding. Who was I kidding with the refusal to  hide anymore? This is why I have hidden. The past begins to pulse to life within me, and I am seconds from remembering why I feel this way. I refuse to process the lyrics and shove them aside.I don't want to remember. I can't go there. I squeeze my eyes shut, trying to seal those old wounds, desperate to feel anything but their presence. His mouth is next to mine, his clean male scent all around me. "You need to know that right now. You need to know that won't change." But the song does change, and this time to another track of what must be a Lifehouse CD.  "Nerve Damage" begins to play. I see through your clothes, your nerve damage shows.Trying not to feel....anything that's real. I laugh bitterly at the words, and Chris pulls back to study me. And I am not blind to what I see in the depths of his green eyes, what I've missed until now but sensed. He is damaged as I am.  We have too many of the wrong things in common to be more than sex, and the realization is freedom to me. All I want is the here and now this piece of time.  Some part of me realizes the window behind me is glass and all things can break. He knows this, too, it's in the dark glint of his eyes, and he wants me to worry about it. He's pushing me, testing me, trying to get me to break. Because I slid beneath his composure? Because he really believes I am out of my league? And maybe I am, but not tonight. Tonight, as the song has said, I am broken, and for the first time perhaps ever, I am not denying the truth of all of my cracks. I am living them.
