Fall in love New York Times bestselling author Grace Burrowes's "favorite kind of historical" where a case of mistaken identity leads to an unexpected love between a duke and debutante.

Miranda Hodgkins has only ever wanted one thing: to marry Robert Carlisle. And she simply can't wait a moment longer. During the Carlisle family masquerade ball, Miranda boldly sneaks into his bedchamber with seduction on her mind. Soon she's swept into rock-hard arms for the most breathtaking kiss of her life. But when the masks come off, she's horrified to find herself face-to-face with Sebastian, the Duke of Trent-Robert's formidable older brother.

Shocked to find Miranda in his bed, Sebastian quickly offers her a deal to avoid scandal: He'll help her win his brother's heart if she'll find him the perfect wife. But what begins as a simple negotiation soon spirals out of control. For the longer this reformed rake tries to make a match for Miranda, the more he wants to keep her all to himself.

AudioBook Review Stars: Overall 4 Narration 4 Story 4 Miranda was raised by her aunt and uncle, tenants on the Duke of Trent’s land, after her parents’ deaths. Soon the young girl became friendly with the Carlisle children, finding a particular fondness for Robert, the second son. So much fondness in fact, that now the grown up Miranda believes that she and Robert are meant to be together and married, even as he calls her ‘Sprite” and treats her much as one would a sister. She’s got a plan though: information from a footman, a ton of daring, a mask and a seduction that will thoroughly bewitch the man. Funnily enough, she gets into the room, discovers many signs that their match is meant to be, and despite her nerves sets her plan in motion. Unfortunately, her target is in another room and she is faced with Sebastian, now Duke of Trent and reformed rake: and his shock at finding the young woman and discovering her plan to ensnare Robert doesn’t fit with his idea of the sort of woman he should marry. Sebastian is a man who is so busy being “Duke” that he’s forgotten himself in the process. He’s burdened with many responsibilities, true, but he’s almost become a shadow of himself, afraid to put a foot wrong. And Miranda is such the wrong path that even as he enjoys his time with her, and is loath to see her with another man, even his brother, he can’t see a way out of his decision to marry a woman of substance and title, more suited to her married role. Harrington does a lovely job of presenting these two, and developing their relationship throughout the story. Both realize, at some point, that they are well-matched, but Mranda’s childish grip to the idea of Robert and her imagined feelings for him are impeding her ability to see what is in front of her. And Sebastian’s past experiences and hurt from them, as well as his rather dogged determination to be a paragon of virtuous Dukehood keeps him from daring to reach for his own desires. The back and forth is strong here, and still the personalities and the joy in their connection shines through. Narration is by Justine Eyre and she captures the youthful light that is Miranda, even with her nervousness in hatching her plan, there is a sense of enjoying every new moment, every new thing. Her ability to become Miranda and present her thoughts and actions with that sense that borders on the desperate moves to capture the one love you will ever have was clear and evident. Sebastian was also presented in a manner that was expected: his moments where the iron-clad grasp to proper slipped, and he had time to just be were among some of my favorites. Never over-reaching or making obvious attempts to steer the listener’s emotions, the story unfolded clearly, with moments to absorb the high points, never dwelling in the low, and letting the writing shine. Harrington has written a lovely introduction to this series with nuanced characters that are full of flaws, heart and humanity, in a story that keeps the listener engaged and smiling at the end. I received an audiobook copy of the title from Hachette Audio for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Miranda Hodgkins has been in love with Robert Carlisle forever and has only ever wanted to marry him. One night, she gets an opportunity to show him how much she loves him. When it turns out it’s his older brother Sebastian she’s attempting to seduce, she’s shocked. After he gets over his own shock, Sebastian offers Miranda a deal: if she helps him find a wife, he’ll help her secure the hand of his brother. This book started off ok, even if a bit tiring of the female lead being in love with an undeserving man. The overall plot is similar to one of my all time favorite movies. However, in the movie, the female isn’t so forgiving of the horrible actions of the main male character. Unfortunately, I really didn’t like Sebastian for much of the book and it kind of ruined it for me. **I voluntarily read and reviewed this book

Loved this story!! Two people who have known each other for years, finally see each other in a different light. I loved that Sebastian still tries to get Robert to notice Miranda even after he starts to have feelings for her. It just shows what type of man he really is. I was heartbroken right along with Miranda when she realizes that her dream of marrying Robert is over. She realizes that she didn't rally love him, but after wanting something so bad, it is hard to let go of it. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Absolutely adored this book. I read it in one sitting (up until 230 am I might add) and it was so worth it. I loved Miranda and Sebastian's story- it was fun, sad, happy, humorous, and passionate. Misplaced crush, ducal responsibilities, masquerade balls, and a London season- so many great aspects to this book. At first I was annoyed with Miranda for her continued infatuation with Robert but over the course of the book she really grew into a strong character. Her enthusiasm for life and all the little things was so refreshing! Sebastian was carrying around so much guilt and responsibility it was refreshing to read him lose himself in another (this is where the passion came in *cough cough*). Really encourage you to read this book- it was so much fun. I need to read the other Carlisle books now!!

This is a romantic and captivating story. It's also amusing, entertaining and enjoyable. Sebastian is charming, sweet, bossy and funny. Miranda is sweet, naive, vibrant and stubborn. Their story is amusing, heartbreaking, and so dramatic. They are snarky when near each other, and tortured and confused when apart. I enjoyed reading this and am looking forward to the next book from this series. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my voluntary and honest opinion of it.

Miranda Hodgkins was brought up with the Carlisle children and always fancied herself in love with the middle Carlisle son, Robert. Oldest son Sebastian agreed to help her in her romantic dreams of getting Robert to see her as a grown woman but somewhere along the way, Sebastian and Miranda fell in love. Sebastian is the Duke of Trent and feels he must marry within society as befitting the title and Miranda is the orphaned niece of one of the Carlisle tenant farmers. Society would shun her. It takes a mother’s wisdom to show her son what truly matters. A thoroughly enjoyable book that deserves more than 5 stars! I can't wait to read the books about Quinton and Robert.

It was a fresh storyline. I liked the heroine she knew what she wanted . The hero had to grow on me though. There's steamy love scenes and no foul language, overall it's a very good book.

Author Anna Harrington does a great job of setting up the reader's interest in the Carlisle brothers Sebastian, Robert and Quinton in this book 1 of the Capturing the Carlisles series. Each of these sensual men have an entirely different personality that will attract the female readers to want to read their stories. Sebastian is portrayed in a manner that will make your heart ache for who he was and what he has become since he became a reformed rake. The reader will have compassion for him thus wanting him to find a happy ever after in-spite of his misguided belief system. He comes across as is a very interesting man with a lot of facets to his personality. I enjoyed his understanding and interaction with his rascal brothers as well as how he protects and loves his mother and sister. Even Miranda was not left out from his protection which causes all kinds of havoc in this story that made me laugh and yes even cry. Miranda is fun and she makes me smile. She is arresting in all senses of the way, loves her life, is confident in who she is and that attribute is very attractive in a female character. Her love for life is portrayed in all aspects of this book and as a reader the overall impression of this book is hope. For this reason, I give it 4 STARS and am excitingly looking forward to reading When the Scoundrel Sins #2 of this series. Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

Another solid story from Anna Harrington. If the Duke Demands is the 1st book in the Capturing the Carlisles Series, but, you will recognize the characters from The Secret Life of Scoundrels series. In romance, we know we are going to get a happy ever after, I like that the author makes me work for it. She does a great job of setting up the obstacles and we get a ring side seat to watch these characters overcome them. Kat Martin's historical s do a great job of this recipe, I believe Anna Harrington is on that level. The characters are funny, endearing and sexy. This book will make you laugh, fall in love and yes, blush even when no one is watching. Miranda and Sebastian are well matched. There are parts of this book that is down right hilarious. Sebastian, after coming into his title, is now a respectable peer. I enjoyed watching his playful side reappear once Miranda got a hold of him. Miranda is convinced that she wants Robert, Sebastian's younger brother. She wants Robert to see her in a different light, but, it is Sebastian who takes notice. It is a great start to the series and a perfect set up for the next one. I cannot wait!!! I received a copy of this book, without charge, from the publisher. To review this book in a public setting was left to my own discretion.

I am voluntarily submitting my review after receiving a NetGalley ARC edition of this eBook. If the Duke Demands is a well written, fast paced book with lots of witty banter, intelligent quips, mad-cap hijinks and burning sexual tension. As the boom progresses, an unconventional romance blooms between the main characters. As this love developed, I found myself morning and more enthralled with their story and ended up reading the last 3\4 of the novel in one sitting because i was simply unable to put it down. I have read a few of Anna Harrington's works, and this one is definitely my favorite one so far!

I love Anna Harrington's historical romances, but If the Duke Demands is my favorite so far that she's written. The Carlisle brothers are the quintessential alpha heroes especially Sebastian. Sebastian Carlisle and Miranda Hodgkins make a pact to help each other out during the season in London. Sebastian will help Miranda get his brother Robert's attention and Miranda will help Sebastian find the perfect wife for a Duke, but things soon get a little confusing when their feelings change for one another. I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

I received a free review copy of this book by NetGalley Miranda has known the Carlisles nearly all her life, being her favourite Robert. She is in love with him or so she thinks. Sebastian’s life changed the night his father died. The load on his shoulders is heavy as he doesn’t feel free to behave like a normal man does. The story is funny and emotional, makes you laugh and cry. The author is good with words describing emotions and feelings. You can really feel the pain, the love, the regret, the sorrow, and the joy along with the characters. It is one of those books you want to finish to know what happens in the end but at the same time, you don’t want to do it because you want to go on reading. I liked the dialogues between Miranda and Sebastian. I liked the wisdom of Sebastian’s mother. I can hardly wait to read the story of the rest of the Carlisles.

At times sweet, other times humorous, story of two people trying to find their way who find each other. Miranda trying to figure out which brother she's really in love with and Sebastian trying to figure out what he's really looking for in his duchess. I genuinely liked both of these characters. The story had heart, and I loved that the characters have mutual interests. We got to see the relationship develop, and it makes sense. And I cannot wait for the other two brothers' stories! The family interactions between the three are great. And the interactions with their mother and sister are great. I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Miranda has had a crush on Robert Carlisle since they were little. However now Robert has fallen for another she decides to take a chance and seduce at the family’s masquerade ball only to end up in the arms of Robert’s older brother. This is a fun fast paced and very romantic read. I loved it.

I was introduced to the three Carlisle brothers in the first book by Anna that I read. They were rowdy and full of mischief. The oldest brother Sebastian's life changes in a instant when his father dies in an accident. The fun loving Sebastian finds himself the Duke of Trent and trying to be the man he thinks his father would want him to be. Returning to his bedroom after a dance he finds the mysterious Lady Rose in his bed. Miranda Hodgkins has loved the middle Carlisle brother Robert all her life and decides to take matters into her own hands by hiding in his bed. Needless to say she picks the wrong bedroom. The game is on when Sebastian and Miranda make a deal. I loved this book as I do all of Anna's books. I am "patiently" waiting for the next book. I was given an ARC copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Right to be wrong Raised with the Carlisle sons, Miranda fell in love as a teen with Robert. As his father receives the Dukedom and dies a while later, she grows into a woman, bit still stays the orphan of tenants. Scraping every bit of courage together, she approaches him during a masquerade and exchanges wonderful kisses, she knows he is hers and then comes the shock to find out it had not been Robert but his older brother Sebastian, the duke. The whole family loves Miranda, but Sebastian is the duke after all. He needs a duchess, an heir and securing his families well-being. To avoid scandal, he agrees to a bargain with Miranda, she helps him to find a suitable wife and he will help her to win his brothers heart. This story is heart-melting. You feel compassion with Miranda from the beginning. She is brave and although she thinks she has figured it out it goes horribly wrong. You feel inclined to tell her that she is only infatuated with Robert and that she should let go, but of course that is not what will happen. Whenever something goes wrong you want to comfort her and at the same time you want the duke to be happy. Sometimes you laugh hard and loud and then you become quiet and anxious. The book keeps you up until late only to find out if both can find happiness, if they have to be satisfied with the duties they have or if they will shatter because of what happened. Anna created very likeable characters with which I connected nearly from the beginning. You can’t but love the Carlisle’s, especially the brothers mother. That book has rakes, rogues, honorable men, ladies, a charming grown girl with mischief, deep emotions, hidden secret, bravery and intelligence. I like to read historical romances and in some you have brainless simple main characters, but not in Anna’s books. When you like deep emotions as well as convincing obstacles and aren’t afraid of your heart to melt, you should read the book. I received an advanced reader copy at no charge from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Well written, with likeable, funny and engaging characters. The plot is absolutely a delight to read, with twists and turns, witty dialog, and a perfect match. Miranda has such a lovable personality, she brings so much to this story. She has a zest for life, is witty, smart, loyal and dreaming for the prospect for love. Sebastian, on the other hand is a bit stodgy, he wishes to be proper, honorable, honest, loyal and has a wounded soul. Together, they prove opposites do attract. I found myself laughing out loud at moments, teary at others, especially, when Sebastian reveals his concerns and his past. He is trying to be the man he believes his father wanted him to be, before his father’s death, he has a lot of guilt. When a Rose appears in his bed Sebastian Carlisle, Duke of Trent, is all for seduction; until she calls him by his brother’s name. As if that wasn’t bad enough he soon learns she is the neighbor girl the Carlisle’s grew up with. When Miranda Hopkins learns the man she’s loved for as long as she can remember is paying court to another she knows she must declare herself before he’s lost to her forever. What better time than after a masquerade ball when she can approach him and declare her love from behind a mask then unveil herself? It seems another time would have been better when she ends up in the wrong room. A pact is made – Sebastian will help Miranda gain his brother’s notice and Miranda will help Sebastian find a wife. What could probably go wrong? As Miranda realizes that her love will never see her as anything but the girl next door she also realizes that there’s more to Sebastian than she realized. Can she make him see her as more than the little girl from next door and can she go through with finding him a wife? Helping Miranda sounded like a good idea until Sebastian started spending more time with her. The more he learns about the girl next door the more he realizes he wants her for himself. Anna Harrington has written an excellent tale of first love and the journey to finding the love that will last forever. I received this book at no charge from the publisher. Mayfair London - 1820 Sebastian Carlisle is arriving at is home, Park Place, just as dawn is breaking. He knows that his family does not approve of his cavorting around with loose women. He is shocked to find his brother, Quinn, waiting for him with the sad news that his father has died. As the oldest, Sebastian is filled with guilt that he was not home when is family needed him. He vows to put his family first now that he is the Duke of Trent. Islingham, Lincolnshire - 1822 Miranda Hodgkins is attending a masked ball at Chestnut Hill in honor of Elizabeth Carlisle’s birthday. She lives on her aunt and uncle’s farm near Chestnut Hill. They took her in when her parents passed away. After the ball has ended, Miranda decided to return to the Carlisle home to declare her love for Robert Carlisle and give him her innocence. They have been childhood friends. She had tipped a footman to tell her which was Robert’s room and there she awaits him dressed in a scandalous dress and masked. When a man enters still masked from the ball, she tells him her name is Rose and she proceeds to seduce him. But when she calls him Robert, he removes his mask to reveal himself as Sebastian. Confessing her intentions to him, he tells her that Robert will be escorting Diana Morgan in London this season. Sebastian apologizes for touching her and suggests she might be happy with someone from the village. Translated, she knows he is kindly letting her know she is just a country girl and not someone to marry a peer. Miranda is humiliated from the whole experience but Sebastian agrees to keep it a secret. Now that Sebastian is the Duke, the family is making plans for the London season where Sebastian will also attend Parliament. His mother, Elizabeth, will stay in London with her daughter and husband leaving Park Place for Sebastian and his brothers. When Sebastian announces that he has decided to search for a wife during the season, the family is surprised. He declares that his duchess must be highborn and befitting the title. His mother lovingly cautions him to be sure the woman he chooses is one he truly loves. As they are discussing their plans for the season, Sebastian is shocked when his mother says she will be sponsoring Miranda in London. Elizabeth feels that with all of the hard work that Miranda has put into managing the local orphanage, she should be treated to a season. Miranda is enjoying every minute of her time in London. Robert has set his sights on a young lady which hurts Miranda but she hides her hurt. Sebastian knows she is hurting and his compassion brings them closer together. I loved these characters. The entire Carlisle family is wonderful and each character is well created. I enjoyed this book as well as all of Anna Harrington’s books. Do read this story. You will love it! An act of boldness begins a dance of scandal in Anna Harrington's, If The Duke Demands. The one time Miranda acts on her attraction to her life long crush, she ends up in the arms of his brother. Talk about embarrassing. One bold decision ends up being just the thing Sebastian and Miranda need. An awkward situation leads to a simple pact. He needs a wife. She wants his brother. What could possibly go wrong? Everything. Especially when the heart becomes involved. If the Duke Demands turn out to be a tempting bundle of humorous sass with some spicy seduction.
