Children's Literature
Swooping, curving lines bring motion into this book about verbs from the "Word Fun Series." The personified frog, high flying acrobats, and soaring spacecraft are among some of the "performers" of the verbs on the colorful pages. The pictures capture the lively verb actions, while the sample sentences demonstrating the how verbs are used. The verbs are all featured in different fonts, sizes, and colors to accentuate their placement in the example sentences. In the text, the written descriptions inform the reader about the usage of verbs. The author imparts information about helping and linking verbs along with a list of them. Included in the text is verb tense and noun-verb agreement, although irregular verbs were not detailed. In the back of the book are directions for a charade-like verb activity, a simple glossary of seven words, an index with limited subject areas, and other verb resources. This informational text fits in with other verb picture books listed in the back. 2006, Picture Window Books, Ages 7 to 10.

Gr 1-3-These concept books define the parts of speech and give examples of their usage. The examples are in capital letters and in a color different from the surrounding text. Bright acrylic illustrations will help younger children visualize each part of speech. They are full of movement and color and make the books inviting. These titles are excellent resources to use along with Ruth Heller's books on the parts of speech.-Lucinda Snyder Whitehurst, St. Christopher's School, Richmond, VA Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
