Award winning and best selling author Carole P. Roman travels to beautiful Portugal. This pro active book invites children to think about Portugal's many wonders from the sunny Azores to the wide variety of food. Roman's If You Were Me books have a simple, winning formula: portray children from other countries and explain how familiar items and customs are the same, and how they differ, in the country being discussed... The appeal of Roman's If You Were Me series is that this information is not offered in the bland style of an encyclopedia entry, but rather as part of a tour of real life in India...It's this organic conversational tone that keeps the book interesting and inspires kids' own curiosity for other cultures." Reviewed by Mamta Madhavan for Readers' Favorite If You Were Me and Lived in...Portugal: A Child’s Introduction to Cultures Around the World by Carole P. Roman takes children to Portugal, which is on the Iberian Peninsula in the most western part of the mainland of Europe. Portugal is named after the second largest city, Porto. The Portuguese have sailed out and colonized many countries and because of that millions of people speak the Portuguese language. The book captures the essence, culture, religion, people, language, food, sights, and sounds of Portugal in an engaging way that will teach young readers a lot about the place and make them want to travel to Portugal. I like all the books in this series which encourages and develops a liking in children for travel and makes them curious to learn more about the cultures of other countries. The illustrations are vibrant and lively and they make the concept come alive beautifully. The writing style is neat and simple, enabling children to understand easily. It is a good book to have in one’s personal collection and is also good for interactive sessions in classrooms and school libraries. The book can be used for reference too when it comes to learning about Portugal and its culture. I love these types of books as they help to broaden one's knowledge, make learning fun, and capture the attention of children in a good way. The pronunciation guide at the end of the book is helpful in pronouncing some of the strange words in the book.

If You Were Me And Lived In Portugal is the story of what living in Portugal is really like! You might be living with your family in the capital city of Lisbon which is not only one of the oldest cities in the world but also, the oldest in Western Europe. You will learn what your names could be to what items are called in a store and even where you might go on vacation. As you learn everything there is to learn about Portugal, you will leave will more knowledge than ever just by reading this great book! I know I have said this before but I truly love this series that gives both kids and adults an opportunity to learn more about this world we live in! I never realized until reading this book that Lisbon was the oldest city in Western Europe which is making me want to go learn more about Portugal even as a adult! Thank You to Carole P. Roman for writing yet another fantastic book in a series that I really love! This book came from my own personal Library!
