Part of the “If You Were Me” series by Carole P. Roman but this one is a little different. Most of the books in the series are places were people actually live and this one is ahead of its time. If You Were Me And Lived On Mars gives the info we know about Mars and imagines if humans were to live there. I learned so much about Mars from this book. Some stuff is a little scary to think of, especially if we actually live there someday. The air and the land are not really set up for humans yet but scientist have plans on what we could do to live there. There is something unnerving about the facts. It is part of the reason I have had a hard time writing the review. That is the only negative to the book for me, the fear of the unknown I guess. People have not made it to Mars...I don’t think? I don’t think they will in my lifetime but boy what a day it will be when or if it does. I definitely applaud the originality of this book. I did not expect it in this series. I intend to read the rest of the series as Ms. Roman has been teaching me so much. If only I had had these books when I was a child.

If You Were Me and Lived On...Mars (If You Were Me and Lived) by Carole P. Roman, Mateya Arkova (Illustrations) is a cute and informational book for kids. It goes into how hard it would be to live on Mars, how it would be different, and how Mars is different. Teaches kids about the planet without kids knowing they are learning. Great pictures too. I was given this as a gift and my review is voluntary.

Reviewed by Vernita Naylor for Readers' Favorite Do you know what it's like to live on Mars? If You Were Me and Lived on...Mars by Carole P. Roman is an excellent children’s book about life on Mars. As your child reads on, they will not only see beautifully illustrated images about life on Mars, but will come away fundamentally educated on Mars, the solar system, and obtain an idea of what life would be like. Children will also learn various planetary terms, from orbit and elliptical to gravity. An added bonus in If You Were Me and Lived on...Mars is the Pronunciation Guide where your child will learn about words like Deimos and Phobos. Your child will not only learn how to phonetically sound out the words, but learn their meaning. If You Were Me and Lived on...Mars is a book that children will want to read over and over, not only to learn about the Red Planet (Mars) but become excited for the future. Reading this book took me back to my childhood. There were some things that I had forgotten, with one being that Mars is called the “Red Planet.” Mars was named after the Greek and Roman god of war. Mars was given this name because of its appearance in the sky, but in actuality it's the dust from the Martian rocks that gives it the red hue. Once your child reads If You Were Me and Lived on...Mars, they will continually look up at the sky and yearn to know more about Mars, its environment, and what it would be like if they lived on Mars. This knowledge is something that they can use for a lifetime.

If You Were Me And Lived On Mars is the story of what if people really lived on the planet Mars! With the year being 2054, it takes about 6 months to reach your new home for the next two years. Your new home is called Mars Living Module and it would have everything you need for the next two years because help and delivery is millions of miles away. As you learn what you can and not do while living on the Red Planet, the journey while there will be well worth the experience of saying you lived on another Planet! I loved this book and yes, I know I say that for every book by Carole but this one was truly great for what may happen in the future. After watching the movie, The Martian where a man gets left behind on Mars and has to fend for himself, it makes you wonder if something like that is really possible and having this book around just makes you think even more! As this series goes on, it keeps getting better and better and I can't wait to see what adventure lies in store for everyone next! Thank You to Carole P. Roman for making me even more curious about what life might be like on the Red Planet!! I received this book from the Author in exchange for a honest review.

It’s a Blast! Want to go live on Mars? Ever dream of living on another planet when you were young, or know some children who would? If so, you need this book—even if you haven’t, you still need this book! Ms. Roman lets youngsters know what it might be like to travel to Mars with their family, and live there for a while. Although it is conjecture, the author describes what life might be like on the Red Planet. She does such a good job, you might believe she has been there. For instance, she talks about what you might look for right away when arriving at a new planet (you would look for something familiar such as where the sun is in the sky). The reader will also discover which end of the planet would have the longest summer and shortest winter (see page 20). Children would need to wear special suits, like what astronauts wear, when going outside because the air on Mars is not safe to breathe. Wearing them would provide protection from the environmental dangers such as radiation along with the severe Martian temperature changes. There would probably be a lot of children to play with since many families would come to fill the jobs on Mars. Crops could possibly be grown there—especially potatoes, radishes and peas. After reading this book, the next time a child looks up at the stars, they will have a good idea of what it would be like if they lived on Mars. This book is sure to stir grade school aged children’s imaginations, and be a great discussion starter for whether or not they would like to live on a different planet. Lots of information will be found in the forty-three pages of this book, but it is in a narrative form so it seems more like a story, and less like a science book. This little volume is also brimming with brightly colored illustrations on every page, and a glossary of terms in the back. Your entire family might decide interplanetary living is a fun idea. I recommend this five-star book to anyone who wants to peak a youngster’s interest, and give them some scientific facts at the same time. The author has provided bookreadingtic with a complimentary copy of If You Were Me and Lived On….Mars, for the purpose of review. I have not been compensated in any other manner. All opinions expressed are my own, and I was not required, or influenced, to give anything but an honest appraisal. If You Were Me and Lived on...Mars by Carole P. Roman, Mateya Arkova (Illustrator) is a brand new picture book in the "If You Were Me and Lived on" series of books. But unlike the previous books that take the reader to different countries or different time periods this story follows a new path to outerspace. Roman opens up an entire new world for children to explore- the universe. Just as her other stories, this thorough and realistic account takes the reader through a journey to the planet Mars. The reader will follow a futuristic family as they travel through outerspace to Mars. The detailed art allows the vivid imagination of children to imagine what life on Mars might really be like. From the serene deep orange mountain-scapes, to the deep red skies, one can almost create a picture of what life on the planet Mars would be like if humans were to travel and colonize the planet. This book will ignite any young reader's interest in astronomy and science. My two youngest really loved this book and so far its been read and re-read countless times. I'd recommend this book for any parent or even for use in a science class for grade schoolers.

If You Were Me and Lived On...Mars by Carole P. Roman is another one of her marvelous books to introduce children to cultures and customs around the world to elementary age and younger. And now, with this book, kids can even learn about life in a place outside of their world. Mateya Arkova has drawn beautiful illustrations in bright pastel colors and curvy lines to depict what life on Mars might look like in the year 2054. Traveling by spaceship for a six-month trip, readers will arrive at their new home, a Mars Living Module, where they will live for the next two years. Clothed in protective, flexible body suits they can navigate around the planet, learning about its elliptical orbit, its two moons and the seasons of its year that is almost two Earth years long. Rapid weather changes, deadly air, and dust storms are dangers to watch out for on Mars. The author touches on scientists who are learning what seeds to plant, doctors who will keep the settlers healthy, and teachers and mechanics who are also along on the experimental trip. Learning about gravity and how it makes basketball a lot of fun and visiting the highest mountain in the whole solar system are high on the list of things to do. Included at the end is a glossary of words, with pronunciations. This is a wonderfully informative book that is sure to capture a child's interest and imagination about what life on another planet could be like.

I love this great adventurous journey, but this one is uniquely different. This time, we are journeying through a fascinatingly written book about traveling to and living on Mars. Just like when the first colonies were established in America here on Earth, they didn't know what to expect, so they had to learn how to adapt to the living conditions. IF YOU WERE ME AND LIVED ON...MARS by Carole P. Roman, a very skillful and wonderful author, explains why your living style would change. Why you wouldn't be able to just step outside. Why you would have to put on a space suit in order to survive Mars conditions, and yes, to even breathe. And there would be times you couldn't even go outside at all, because of the bad storms. The gravity itself would not be the same as here on Earth either. You would have to be so much more careful, because you are way, way out in space. Even the living conditions inside would be different. Once your spaceship landed on Mars, you would have to stay there for almost two years before you could even think about coming back to Earth. That would be a very long vacation, indeed. You would be living in what is called a settlement. Just thinking about that is enough to make someones head spin. There is so much you can learn just by reading this fascinating book about Mars and some very unique facts. Even the illustrations were great. I loved this little book with a big meaning. A must read!

MINI REVIEW I have thoroughly enjoyed reading Roman's stories. This one is no different, except its in space. I love all the fun facts in the book. They are great for young readers who are interested in other cultures and like to explore. Although, after reading this one life on Mars sounds like it could be very interesting place to live. It would take lots of preparation and you have to plan on being there a long time, but if it was really a thing we could do I think I would want to try it. This one is super fun to read. Source: I was given this book by the author in return for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way for this review. These are my own PERSONAL thoughts on the book.
