A thrilling debut that explores the heart-wrenching reality faced by those with missing loved ones, If You're Gone is a coming-of-age mystery about young love, loss, and unfailing faith.

Lillian White's plans for the perfect summer are shattered when her boyfriend, Brad, mysteriously disappears the night of his graduation ceremony - the same night he tells her he loves her for the first time. After law enforcement dismisses the case, classifying Brad as voluntarily missing, Lillian becomes desperate to prove that he couldn’t have just walked away. Not from his friends. Not from his family. Not from her. But her quest for the truth reveals more questions than answers as she uncovers secrets from Brad’s past engineered to be kept from everyone in their small town. She is soon forced to question everything she thought she knew about Brad and their relationship, as well as her own faith, in hopes of finding him. What she discovers may bring her one step closer to solving the mystery...or change her life forever.

(I was provided with a free digital copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.) If You're Gone could have been typical. It could have gone the way so many romantic suspense thrillers go. When I started reading, I fully expected it to. If You're Gone is not typical. It's a character study, a in-depth look at one teenage girl, Lillian, dealing with loss. Losses, really -- there's the obvious loss of a boyfriend who disappears under mysterious circumstances, and there's the less-obvious loss of Lillian's own expectations for how her life should unfold. More even than the plot, which moves along at a solid clip and never bogs itself down with unnecessary diversions, the development of this character is what sells the book for me. Lillian is a real person. She's not a collection of contrivances designed to drive a plot to its conclusion. The end of Lillian's story, without spoiling anything, is emotionally powerful and ultimately realistic. (There is an additional, deleted scene-style chapter available online that can serve as an epilogue -- I much prefer the ending that made its way into the book proper, but your mileage may vary.) I'm looking forward to what the author comes up with next. This is a promising start to a literary career.

Reviewed by Jessyca Garcia for Readers' Favorite I really enjoyed If You're Gone by Brittany Goodwin. In fact I found it rather hard to put down. When Lillian White’s boyfriend, Brad, suddenly goes missing, she does not know what to think. The police seem to think his disappearance is not serious. Lillian decides to investigate by herself and ends up discovering Brad had a lot of secrets. If You're Gone was a really interesting story. Goodwin made me feel Lillian’s pain at not knowing what had happened to Brad. The police not making a big deal about his case frustrated me as much as it did Lillian. I liked that Lillian was a good girl who went to church, but still had a life. The storyline was interesting and although the revealing of Brad’s secrets was a little slow, it captivated my attention. I loved how Lillian did not let Brad’s past bother her. She knew he had changed and was not the same person as when he was younger. Goodwin captured what loved ones of missing persons really go through. The pain of not knowing is unbearable. I also like that Goodwin shares on her blog what happens to Lillian eight years later. The tone of the story was light, but exciting. The ending of the story was just right. If you enjoy young adult novels or mysteries, then I suggest you read this. This is the type of story that I would love for my nieces to read. I hope that Goodwin continues to write more books, because I look forward to reading them.

If You're Gone is a fascinating exploration of a young girl's journey through the disappearance of her boyfriend and coming to terms with life without him. Lillian, a rising high school senior, is very much in love with her boyfriend Brad, who has just graduated. On the night of his graduation Brad tells Lillian that he loves her, and then he disappears without a trace. Lillian is desperate to find Brad and feels lost without him. She doesn't believe he would choose to leave her or his family without an explanation of some sort, but with no evidence to the contrary, she is left feeling confused, dejected and unwanted. The search for Brad seems to go cold and with no clues leading to his whereabouts the authorities have no reason to continue looking for him, assuming that he, as an adult, has left of his own accord. Lillian is devastated but she refuses to give up on Brad. This book realistically examines the emotions felt by those who are left behind when a loved one disappears. You can feel Lillian's grief and frustration as she continues her search for Brad, often unaided by others. I appreciated that this book shared some very real and raw emotions, along with the concept that when one has not gone through a certain experience, they cannot "understand" what you are going through. It also delves into the topic of forgiveness, which is so often overlooked in today's literature and society in general. I can't say that I wasn't occasionally frustrated with the main character for being a bit whiney and needy but the author does an excellent job in portraying the emotions of a teenage girl. It is also a pleasure to see Lillian mature in her thoughts and choices throughout the course of the book. Finally, it was very refreshing to read a book that mentioned God, faith, and prayer semi frequently and was not chock full of curse words or filthy topics (only 2 or 3 words that I noticed). I really enjoyed this book despite the fact I rarely read young adult romances and I highly recommend it! I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lillian's boyfriend Brad goes missing on the night of his high school graduation, shortly after telling her that he loves her. Because of his checkered past and the fact that he's eighteen, the police don't take his disappearance seriously. As the days turn into weeks and the weeks turn into months, there is still no sign of Brad, and Lillian struggles to cope with the "not knowing". Her friends resume their normal lives, but Lillian is in limbo. Who is Chris, the mysterious blue-eyed boy who seems to appear and disappear at odd times? Does Brad's old friend Lizard know more about Brad's disappearance than he's letting on? A book that Chris gives Lillian - on learning to deal with loss - helps bring normality back to her life ... in more ways than one. The story is told in the first person from Lillian's point-of-view, with flashbacks to highlight her relationship with Brad. We see how his disappearance affects all areas of her life, and how even her personality changes. While there is the mystery of what happened to Brad, this is foremost a book about learning to cope with loss, mainly through prayer and Christian belief. I guessed a major part of the plot line, but it just didn't make sense at the time. Well, even after finding out what really did happen, it still didn't make sense and left me feeling ultimately disappointed. I received this book in return for an honest review. Where do I even start about this book... it's heartbreaking and realistically beautiful and it leaves you thinking. The MC, Lillian White, is so broken after her boyfriend, interestingly named Brad Lee, goes missing, and it is her voice that narrates the story- yet not in a "bring me down" kind of way. You feel her struggle and pain while rooting for her to solve the mystery of Brad's disappearance. One of my favorite aspects of the story are the faith-based elements that were loosely intertwined throughout the book. Of course, anyone with a missing loved one is going to have moments when they question their faith, and this is captured effortlessly in the novel without being preachy. I read this as a thirty-something year old woman and highly recommend it to teens and adults alike. (Parents, be aware there is very mild language in the book, which perhaps wasn't necessary for the author to include yet in the moments when it is used it feels natural for the situation.) Don't start reading it expecting an unrealistic thrill ride- just enjoy it as a true-to-life account of the aftermath of someone's disappearance. Happy Reading! *I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review*

This book is gripping in so many ways, making you feel empathy for these characters while hoping this is something you never have to live through. I felt as if I was hurting with the main character, Lillian, due to the descriptive, emotional, and thought-provoking narrative. It's an awesome read and an incredible coming of age story.

If You're Gone was an intriguing story that kept me reading to find out what happened next. The author did a wonderful job of making me feel the emotion of the characters, especially the main character, Lillian. The story is full of mystery and unpredictable twists. The ending was a complete surprise to me! The only negative about the story is that it left me asking, "what happened next?". I wanted more. But, maybe there will be a sequel! Overall, a great read! *recieved in exchange for honest review
