Rambling What prompts me to only give 3 stars has to do with the writing style more than the story itself. You read the actions, and then the inner thoughts of the characters, and then the character vocalized those same thoughts. It was a lot of rambling and the book would have honestly only been about 75 pages if that was cut down to a nice flow without repeating so much. The writer also introduces a romantic interest character, only for him to be completely forgotten after a chapter of his involvement. No progression despite it seeming that this character would play a larger part in the growth of the story.

I seriously enjoyed this book.  Do you believe in Magic?  If not, this story might just jump-start your imagination.  The characters were great and the storyline was fun.  I picked up this read and didn't put it down until I was done.  The action, is thrilling.  The suspense, is gripping.  The mystery, is intriguing.  But there is so much more, that I can't wait to read the next part of this story!  A recommendation from me, this is a definite addition to anyones TBR list!

This book was a breath of fresh air! Truly didn't see this one coming! (No pun intended) A child's first encounters with various situations and people are very pivotal at a young age which in this case is Katherine Rebecca's fist experience at the circus.  She grows to love and yearn for more knowledge of the mysterious world, magic, and the illusions associated but quickly finds out life had other plans for her. "Becky" has always grown up sheltered and at a young age took on the responsibility of her family, the business, and also the harsh problems that come with it. But the love of magic diminished but never died away. Who knew a risky trip to thirst her quench of childhood circus nostalgia would turn into so much more! The story, plot, and characters are refreshing with real life problems and situations with just a touch of magic. Its definitely a great start and I can't wait to read where this goes!

I won an ARC of this book in a giveaway on the author's blog and went on to purchase it on Amazon later so I could see how/if the writing improved from soup to nuts. In addition to that, when the opportunity arose to join in on a review tour, I pounced. I've reviewed Ms. Greene's work in the past and found it more than five star worthy. This book had a couple of flaws; but didn't disappoint when it came time to deliver on the story end. I have in no way been compensated for my participation in this tour and all opinions are my own. On to the good stuff. From a Reader's Perspective: I didn't like Ms. Hoity Toity Perfect in Every Way Becky at the beginning of the book. She was too prim, too proper, and did too many things just because her parents wanted her to. As the story moves forward, we begin to see all may not be as it first seemed. Little Becky has kept secrets from her mother and father throughout the years. One big one was why Becky had a falling out with her ex-boyfriend, Lance. This is one spot I found an inconsistency in the story though. In chapter eight, Becky talks about her mother setting up dinners between the two families because she was ignorant to what happened with Lance. Later, in chapter eleven, Becky talks about how her mother knew and was okay with what he'd done. As a reader, continuity is something I expect and it did throw me for a loop when I read it. But, the magical aspects of the story and Becky's well-kept secret helped move the story along. I was fascinated at how she'd kept that aspect of her life hidden for so long and thrilled when she discovered all may not be as it first appeared. I won't go into that because I refuse to give spoilers. You'll have to read the book to find out what I'm talking about. There are two love interests in the book as well, and I can't wait for book two so I can find out which one wins Becky's heart and why. Neither felt added as an afterthought and both fit into the story perfectly. From an Editor's Perspective: Pronouns! These seem to give authors the most trouble. I found no pronoun errors in Ms. Greene's first book, Twisted, and contractions were used well. Illusions Begin could use contractions to make the prose and dialogue flow more easily. There are also many commas missing between statements and names in dialogue. But those are nitpicks most people probably wouldn't pick up on. Rating: +1 Star for giving me a truly magical story +1 Star for showing me Becky's imperfections as the book went on and not letting her remain annoyingly unlikeable +1 Star for the awesome surprises along the way +1 Star for the guys in the story -1 Star for the inconsistency in story and the need for pronoun/contraction/comma oopsie repair Overall, 4 out of 5 stars! Highly recommended for those who love an engaging story with awesome twists.

FANTASTIC NOVEL!!!!!!!!!! This story really pulled me in. I'm not big on magic but this book is about more than just magic. It's about relationships, discovering yourself, confidence, family, love, and there's adventure and suspense as well. What more could you ask for? Becky is a sweet, intelligent, and funny girl that you just want to root for. She's cute, quirky, and that kind of beautiful where she doesn't even know it. She's hard on herself. She's a people pleaser. I can relate to her throughout the novel. The two men in her life are pretty amazing and alluring as well. Decisions. Decisions. :) The story is like nothing I've ever read before. It brings magic to life. It weaves a web so subtle yet so enticing that magic...could be... real. Now that is good writing! Finally a book that delivers in the realm of fantasy but isn't so far out of reach that I feel like I'm reading a children's novel. Way to go N.L Greene. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. Do youself a favor. Read it.

My Review of Illusions Begin: The Cover: Magical. Pun completely intended. It is such a sexy, fun cover! The couple is hot, the cards are a perfect touch. I love the boldness of the red. I just love everything about it. The book's cover designer gets a round of applause from yours truly.  The Characters: Becky is so vivid and fabulous, she nearly leaps off the page. I could relate to her in so many ways. I love her inner struggle, against the expectations set for her by others, and what she wants for herself. She is an amazing character. There are two amazing guys as well, but I'm afraid to spoil the fun for you. Once you understand the illusion, it's no longer enchanting! :) The Plot: This is the fun part for me. I loved the plot of this book. The story is fresh and imaginative. I love it when an author is brave enough to step outside of the box and offer up something new! N.L. Greene delivers an imaginative, fun story that will keep the reader turning pages long into the night. The storyline was well-developed and the amounts of tension and fun were perfectly balanced.  This book is a wonderful example of good writing! You don't have to write erotica to have sexy in a book, and Illusions Begin is tastefully sexy.  Rating: 5 Aces of Hearts! I loved it! I would recommend it to anyone who loves YA/NA or a well-written, fun story. It was simply magical! :)

“Illusions Begin” is a wonderful break from all of the Vampires and Werewolves that have filled so many books lately. It is refreshing to read something new and different but still of the magical world. I love how the magical element of the story is beginning to develop without taking over the entire storyline. The character development is excellent and there are even some possible romances in the works. I can’t wait to read the next in the series!

I thought Illusions Begin was a fun, original story that introduces a Paranormal series from author N.L. Greene. Becky is a very authentic character.  Out of obligation to her family, she sacrifices her own happiness to work in a field she does not enjoy (and in close quarters with her cheating ex).  Due to long hours at the office and a very shy demeanor, she is a bit of a loner with no real friends apart from the family business. One of the few things that bring her joy is magic.  She secretly studies the craft at home and wears costumes when she attends a magic show out of town.  Believing her family would find her hobby ridiculous and shameful, Becky hides her love of magic from everyone.  Through a course of mysterious events, Becky meets a man that not only encourages her to develop her craft, he offers to show her that magic is not just tricks with smoke and mirrors.  She must decide if she wants to leave her “real world” behind in pursuit of a calling that gives her dull life new meaning and joy. I liked the relationships between Becky and the 4 men introduced in this book.  Her father (whom she tries to please), her ex (whom she tries to avoid), the hot cop (whom courts her) and the mysterious man (whom excites her).  Ironically, it is the mysterious man that interacts with the real Becky; her guard is always up with the others for one reason or another. This was an original take on a paranormal romance/adventure.  If other books can focus on fairies, witches, demons and such, it is easy to enjoy a book about magic being more than just parlor tricks.  I thought the book was well written and thought out. I very  much look forward to the next book. I as eager as Becky to discover more about real magic and see what she does with this information!

Katherine Rebecca Wellington grew up in New York and was groomed to be prim and proper and to one day take over the family's prestigious law firm. Knowing that the firm had been in her family for many generations she was willing and ready to keep the business going even if it was at the expense of her own dreams. As a young girl she once saw a magic show put on during a circus she attended and fell deep in love. She spent all of her spare time solving the tricks and illusions so that she could perfect them herself. Rebecca knew that her parents did not share the love for magic and forbade her at a young age to practice so she kept her secret love hidden. She would secretly go to magic shows and sit by herself watching closely to take in all that she was able to observe, that way when she would get home later she could write down notes and solve the tricks. But one day after leaving a magic show she finds a mysterious business card in her back pocket. After receiving an equally mysterious email, she gets a call from a mysterious man that is linked to the two. Her life will forever be changed after they meet. You MUST read this book, it was so good. I think I already love this series.
