This book was purchased as a review of old points and intro to new features. It had been a while since I had purchased a book on the Mac. I was not disappointed. From the table of contents to the chapter organization to the details, the book lived up to its title ... iMac Portable Genius. It can be used for reference, reminder, or even finding out "how to." I found individual topics easy to locate and the contents helpful. If you have the latest iMac and already know EVERYTHING about it, the book might only be a quick reference tool. However, since I did not claim to know (or at least remember) everything Mac, I found it to be one of the best computer books I have purchased. The topics are easy to read, and find. The book might best be described as "What Mac support folks (Genius Bar, etc) might answer if you called and asked about [pick your topic]." Whether someone is new to the Mac, or a well-seasoned pro, I would recommend this book. It is nice to find a book (such as this) which actually lives up to its title. Example topics I enjoyed included: syncing calendars; fixing songs that won't play; RSS feeds; SMS messaging; optimizing the Mac for gaming; and useful websites. It contains sufficient photos without drowning you in them. Other books you also may find of interest include the Mac books by Pogue.
I found this book very helpful. I had a purchased and imac with no prior experience. I always used a HP or Dell. I am not sure if I wouldn't have returned the computer if I hadn't found this book to help. I am now getting use to my computer but still rely on the book to answer any questions I may have. I have found it very informative and to the level of my computer experience which is not as much as I would like it to be.
