A classic Jill Barnett love and laughter romance called "a delight to read" by Romantic Times, who award Jill Barnett a Lifetime Achievement Award.

After years imprisoned on Devil's Island for a murder he never committed, escaped convict Hank Wyatt knows how to survive and believes his luck has finally changed. But when he stows away on board a ship destined to sink, his luck turns bad. He doesn't know if he can last an hour when he is marooned on a deserted island with a beautiful, know-it-all blonde attorney and three orphaned children. Suddenly looking out for number one doesn't seem to be enough.

San Francisco attorney Maggie Smith wants to have a good cry. Thoroughly modern, wealthy, and bright, her unwanted holiday turns bad when she is suddenly cast in the role of mother and forced to battle wits and hearts with the most arrogant, pig-headed man she's ever met.

Fate has thrown this makeshift family Robinson together, and kismet tosses in a 2000 year-old floating bottle filled with magic. Is the chance for a love more powerful than they could ever imagine only a wish away? Father Goose meets Donovan's Reef in this funny and tender historical romance about misfits who find that life might not be so bad after all...if they can do the impossible, and find a way to be family.

Jill Barnett wrote a grand adventure romance. This is not a cliffhanger. In fact, Ms. Barnett wrote a very exciting fantasy-based story with an absolutely wonderful "ta-da" ending. Maggie Smith is an attorney who lived her life within the strictures of society. She believed in the sanctity of the justice when the law was adhered to. She used her intelligence and logic to argue successfully her cases in court. Although she lost her mother when she was seven, she had her father's love and his total support to back her up. Her uncles made up the rest of her living family and she felt fulfilled. After winning a difficult case, her father bought her a cruise of the South Seas, a trip on HIS bucket list. She was going alone because her father, a California Supreme Court Justice, had an important case coming up. She was braver than many women in her time period because she wenr on, alone. Hank Wyett's mother abandoned him as a child after she dumped him off at an State Orphanage. At 15, he was surviving on the street with other abondoned children. He was a pickpocket, and a thief who managed to support himself with theft and shoplifting skills. He ends up in a French prison where many prisoners died before their sentence was fulfilled. He was beaten, starved, whipped, and abused. He never gave up trying to escape until one day he did. How he escapes and meets Maggie is intriguing. How they despised each other and then made their final respect of each other's differences was the heart of the story. I enjoyed this tale of a lawyer and a convict. I recommend it for mature adults because of the explicit sex. It does have a few edit errors, but for a novel over300 pages, they are fewer than most!!!

I was so prepared to hate this book, as I really don't care for love stories, but a really good friend recommended it so.....I read it. It really surprised me. At first glance it is a very simplistic story. Ship wrecked, ending up on a deserted island, but where some books go wrong with that story line Ms. Barnett did not. The fact that the couple also are shipwrecked with three children, and that this takes place in the late 1800's makes for a really different tale. Throw in a little magic and you have a very good read. I especially liked the way she used humor, and the fact that the sex wasn't overdone. Quite an enjoyable read.

Something about her books is a little mystical, a little magical, as if a guardian angel guides things to the proper conclusion. It leaves you with a warm feeling of contentment. Thank - you Jill Barnett.

Highly imaginative tale of various castaways from vastly different backgrounds coming together to form a family. Loved all the unexpected plot twists. Highly recommend this book to all who believe in genies and Santa Claus.

A different kind of story. It would have been very good except the language was atrocious. I will never understand why authors seem to feel that they need to use swear words constantly.
