Angela Hunt will be our keynote speaker at the ACFW conference in September. I was delighted to learn my friend Rosanna owned several of Angela's books. Last night I started reading The Immortal and I could not put it down. Well, I did when I couldn't keep my eyes open. But this afternoon I picked it back up and finished it. WOW. Angela Hunt's story telling skill held me spellbound. No wonder her books hit the best seller list. The blurb about the book says it best: Who is Asher Genzano? A fanatic? A religious zealot? A raving lunatic? Or is he what he says he is¿ a 2000-year-old man cursed with immortality and on a holy mission to prevent a global cataclysm? Claudia Fischer¿s search for answers leads her into the past where myth, history, and prophecy intertwine in ancient legends of the Wandering Jew, biblical warnings about the Antichrist, and eyewitness accounts of the Crucifixion, the Inquisition, the Holocaust. What Claudia learns challenges everything she believes . . . about life, love, and God. I gotta go. I have more Angela Hunt books to read.

The Immortal is a fascinating read. Not just a work of fiction, it inspired me revisit my personal doubts about God's love for, and willingness to forgive, me. The descriptive details made me feel as if I had visited Rome myself. The historical details made the Immortal believable. The storyline was riveting; I couldn't put it down!

I recommended THE IMMORTAL to my mother. This morning she came to the door of my room and asked, 'Did you tell me Angela Hunt writes CHILDREN'S books, too?' I'm sure I looked a bit startled, since Tale of Three Trees is probably still what Hunt is best known for. After I answered yes, my mom said, 'I just can't imagine someone who can write things like this being able to get down on a children's level. This is the most fascinating book I think I've ever read.' I loved Claudia and the information on jury consultants. Fascinating, indeed!

THIS BOOK WAS SUCH A GREAT DISAPOINTMENT OT ME. I SEARCHED AND SEARCHED FOR THIS BOOK SINCE THE FIRST TIME I SAW IT IN THE CBC CATALOG. I HAVE SO FAR READ 282 PAGES AND THE STORY DID NOT TWEAK MY INTEREST UNTILL CHAPTER 24 ( PAGE 265 ). SO I HAVE HAD TO ENDURE 265 PAGES OF MINDLESS MUTTERINGS, A TOUR OF ROME AND A 'WANT-A-BE' SPY NOVEL WITH A WIMPERING MAIN CHARACTER. WHERE ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH DID MRS. HUNT FIND THE ANNOYING 'CLAUDIA'. JUST WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO TOSS THIS 'BOOK' INTO THE NEAREST BBQ PIT, IT STARTS TO TWEEK MY INTEREST. WHY OH WHY DID SHE NOT START AND END WITH ASHER, HIS LIFE IN PILATE'S SERVICE, HIS WIFE, HIS TRAVELS AND MIDLINING WITH HIS SLAP OF CHRIST, THEN CULMINATING IN THE FINAL CLIMAX. IF 'CLAUDIA HAD TO BE INCORPORATED INTO THE STORY, SHE COULD HAVE BEEN A SIDE CHARACTER AND NOT AN ANNOYANCE THAT KEEPS THE READER FROM UNDERSTANDING THE REAL ASHER. AS A HELFUL SUGGESTION, YOU MIGHT WANT TO PUBLISH 'ASHER'S JOURNALS'. FOR THEY ARE THE BEST!!!! READING IN THE ENTIRE BOOK. PLEASE NEXT TIME LEAVE OFF THE JUNK AND GET RIGHT TO THE TREASURE!!!!
