I just finished reading The Immortal Sin by Julie Milillo, and I am hooked! A classic story of self discovery and good against evil, Ms. Milillo captures the reader from the very first page. The characters develop throughout the story and by the end I felt as if I had known them for years. The story gradually builds to a climax that has left me wanting more; I can hardly wait for book 2! This being Ms. Milillo’s first book has me even more impressed, I am looking forward to seeing how she develops as an author. If paranormal fiction is your cup of tea, I highly recommend that you run (not walk!) to get your copy of The Immortal Sin
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review* Immortal Sin is the story of Amanda Chaste. Living in New Jersey with her grandmother, Nan, she has never met her father and hasn’t spoken with her mother in two years. Her life is simple, she has her best friend Alexis and Alexis’ boyfriend Gregg. When Alexis has a party while her parents are gone, Amanda comes face to face with her fate and her true identity. Mitch is a demon, sent to finish “The List,” when he collides with Amanda at a high school party he sees something in her eyes that he can’t explain. There is something about her, she is like him but there is something more to her. When Amanda begins to discover her true identity she finds herself turning to Mitch for answers, the problem is he can only help her with certain aspects of her abilities. I found that the first half of the book was slow, there were more questions than answers. Mitch, even being what he was, didn’t have any answers. It seemed that the whole time Amanda was just practicing her abilities and questioning what she was. There were also times when Amanda’s thoughts or conversations with Mitch became redundant, like her remembering him eating pizza or her trying to understand her feelings for him. The end of the book did get more interesting. With Gregg and Ravish’s involvement in the story the drama gets a little more intense. There are also a few more questions answered, but I still felt like I wanted more from this story. It didn’t grab me the way I hoped it would, it seemed I was reading the same stuff over and over again. However, I do feel that with the way the book ended it could lead to a very interesting second installment. It seems that Amanda is going to have a big fight on her hands, and that’s what I would hope the second book brings, more suspense, more discoveries and more details.
Immortal sin was fantastic. Its a nice change for those who like the fantasy or young adult genres. The characters and story are believable, and the author really did the research where it was needed! I enjoyed reading about how the main character Amanda would overcome certain obstacles in life, and how she kept things as normal as possible at the same time. There is also a perfect mix of getting introduced to everything, and action and suspense, because I find that a lot of books start off slow trying to explain everything first. This is definitely one ill pick up again in the future and I cant wait for the sequel!
