Trefousse's book about Andrew Johnson's impeachment & trial is very informative and well researched. It is not too long and gives readers a short version of the events that took place from 1865 to 1869. The president's impeachment and trial was the first time in world history that a nation's chief leader was being tried for crimes. It was one of the most important events in American political history. Its outcome--acquittal--strengthened the presidency. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Johnson's impeachment & trial.
