A quiet town on the outskirts of Paris, Argenteuil became a center of French impressionist art in the late nineteenth century. Claude Monet, Alfred Sisley, Gustave Caillebotte, Edouard Manet, and Auguste Renoir set their easels along its boulevards and upon its riverbanks, rendering nuances of dappled light, shimmering water, or clear blue sky with exceptional grace. This calendar presents twelve Argenteuil paintings: seven by Monet, two by Caillebotte, and one each by Sisley, Manet, and Renoir. All of these works are featured in the exhibition The Impressionists at Argenteuil sponsored by the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
