My Daughter Is Being Hookerish
"Jesus, lay off the carbs!" my friend Ariel mutters angrily from below.
Her hands are on my butt as she grunts and struggles to help push me up into the window I left open before heading out earlier tonight. As my arms start to shake with the exertion of trying to pull myself into this stupid window, I wonder for the hundredth time how much longer I can keep doing this.
"Shut up and push harder!" I whisper back to her, managing to swing one of my legs up and over the windowsill, losing one of my shoes in the process and hoping none of our neighbors see me sneaking into the house wearing a fancy dress and call the police, thinking I'm some kind of well-dressed robber.
"OW! Son of a bitch, your shoe just hit me in the face! If you gave me a black eye I will murder you!" Ariel shouts up to me, smacking her hand as hard as she can against my butt while I continue struggling to pull myself the rest of the way inside.
After all of the stress of the last few months, it was nice to get out of the house tonight, put on a pretty dress and go to a fundraiser for the Animal Protective League. The library I run is on the verge of shutting down, I'm growing more and more discontent with the fact that I still live at home with my overprotective father, and I feel guilty for keeping my problems from my two best friends and business partners, Cindy and Ariel — but for one night, I was able to push everything aside. For a little while, I forgot about my own problems while I sipped champagne and got to witness Cindy and her boyfriend PJ, the owner of Charming's Gentlemen's Club, get a real life happily-ever-after right in front of my own two eyes. After the troubles Cindy went through, it was wonderful to see her find her Prince Charming.
The three of us became fast friends when we all realized we shared similar money troubles. Cindy was left high and dry when her ex-husband skipped town with the babysitter and took all their money with him. Ariel was forced to sell her antique store when her ex-husband screwed her over. And me? I'm still living in my father's basement at twenty-five and running out of ideas on how to keep the town library I run open for much longer if I can't come up with a way to raise money for it. We were all pretty desperate when we met.
We were dressed in princess costumes at the annual Halloween block party on the street Cindy and Ariel live on when one of Cindy's neighbors approached us and hired us to perform at what we assumed was a little girl's birthday party. It turned out we were actually hired to take our clothes off for a man's birthday party (PJ being that man). Sure, that first party was disastrous and ended in one gentleman asking me to do something unmentionable with a balloon, and the three of us running and screaming out of PJ's home, but I wouldn't change anything about how it all happened. Deciding to start a home-stripping business called the Naughty Princess Club might not sound like a good idea for three women who have never taken their clothes off for money before, but it has turned out to be the best idea we've ever had.
And even though I haven't started doing any of the stripping parties that our company has already booked, I still get a small cut of the money Cindy makes for helping with the administrative side of things. So far, it's been enough to keep the doors of the library open, thanks to me being extremely frugal and not having to worry about any personal bills of my own, since I still live at home. Unfortunately, the bills at the library are starting to pile up, and soon that little bit of extra money won't be enough. And even more unfortunately, I don't know how much longer I can continue climbing through windows in the middle of the night after my dad has gone to sleep. It would be nice to sneak back in the house using my key like a normal person, but I learned a tough lesson when I snuck out a few weeks ago: Apparently, my dad likes to get up in the middle of the night and put the chain on the door. After sleeping in his car in the garage until he woke up to get the morning paper, and then sneaking back in when he was taking a shower, I thanked God he didn't also make sure all the windows were locked during his nighttime safety check.
With one last big push from Ariel, and using every muscle in my body, I manage to make it up and over the windowsill, falling into a heap onto the hardwood floor of the dining room. The thumping noises of my arms, legs and hip hitting the floor sound as loud as a shotgun going off in the quiet room. I wince while holding my breath and remaining perfectly still, hoping to God the noise didn't wake my dad.
"I BROKE A NAIL, YOU ASSHOLE!"
Ariel's shout from outside has me scrambling up on my knees and quickly flinging my head out the window to look down at her while she continues cursing and staring at her hand.
"Will you keep it down?! You're going to wake the neighbors and my dad!" I whisper yell back to her.
"I don't give a shit who I wake up! You broke my nail and you gave me a black eye. The entire neighborhood needs to know that the STRUGGLE IS REAL!" she screams at the top of her lungs.
"ISABELLE MARIE READING! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"
I let out a surprised squeak at the sound of my father's angry voice, jumping up from the floor as Ariel looks up at me with a scowl.
"Is that your dad?! Pull me through the window so I can give him a piece of my mind. That old-ass motherfu —"
I cut off Ariel's shouting by quickly slamming the window closed and whirling around to face the man across the room, whom I have never seen looking so angry. He's wearing a pair of flannel pajama bottoms and a rumpled T-shirt, his salt and pepper hair all askew on top of his head, and the sight of him makes me visibly wilt. I feel like the worst daughter in the world.
To say things have been strained between us lately is an understatement, and I hate it. I hate that I've been lying to him and I hate that I haven't been honest with Cindy and Ariel about the state of my relationship with him. He's always been the most important person in my life, but some things you just can't discuss with your own father, regardless of how close you are, and that's taken its toll. How am I supposed to tell him that he's smothering me when he's spent his entire life taking caring of me, being a father and a mother to me since my mother died a few years after I was born? How am I supposed to tell him that I want to spread my wings and fly, have fun and make stupid choices like a normal woman in her twenties — and, most importantly, fall in love? How am I supposed to explain to him that I can't fall in love unless I kiss a whole bunch of frogs, and I can't exactly kiss those frogs, or do any other naughty things I'd like to do with frogs, if he's constantly monitoring everything I do, afraid I'm going to get taken advantage of or hurt? I need to live my life and do something different and exciting.
I've tried so many times to tell him that I'm a grown woman and I need to do grown-woman things, but it never comes out right. It's caused me to be short with him lately, and it's resulted in more than a few arguments between us. I've never behaved like this in my entire life. I've always been the quiet, respectful daughter who does as she's told and whatever she can to make her father happy. It's all just gotten so exhausting lately.
I've lived my life in black and white, content with being the shy, quiet wallflower who does nothing but read, just waiting for something exciting to happen to me like it does for the heroines in my books. When the colorfulness of Cindy and Ariel burst into my life, I realized that being content wasn't making me happy anymore. I realized I couldn't sit around waiting for something exciting to happen to me. If I wanted to have fun and experience real life, I needed to get out there and make it happen on my own. I needed to take charge and find the excitement, instead of waiting for it to come to me. And after seeing Cindy find her knight in shining armor, shed her uptight PTA-mom persona, and move on with her life to something bigger and better, I now want that for myself more than anything in the world.
I want the fairy tale. And I can't exactly figure out how to get it by sneaking out of this house every time I want to do something that hasn't been preapproved for my safety and security by my father.
"Isabelle! Answer me! Did you sneak out of the house tonight? And what in the world are you wearing?!"
I look down at the elegant yellow, sparkly, off-the-shoulder dress Ariel let me borrow, and for the first time since I put the dress on tonight, I don't feel like a beautiful, sophisticated woman. I feel like a child who did something wrong. Realizing one of my shoes is still out in the yard somewhere, I probably even look like a child as I limp-walk around the dining room table and closer to where my dad is standing in the doorway, I stop a few feet away from him.
"Yes, Daddy, I snuck out of the house tonight, but it was just to go to a charity gala. It was perfectly safe, and I was with my friends the entire time," I explain softly, growing sadder by the second when my explanation does nothing to soothe him.
Each word I speak makes his face change a different shade of red, each shade more alarming than the last, until I start to worry that his head might explode.
"I knew it!" he bellows, throwing his hands up in the air in frustration. "I've heard rumblings around town about these new friends of yours, but I shooed it away because I thought, 'Oh no, my Isabelle is too smart to hang out with riffraff like those women'!" And just like that, I forget all about being a sweet, respectful daughter.
"Riffraff?! Did you just call my friends riffraff?!" I shout. "You don't know the first thing about them! They are kind, and they are wonderful, and they're my friends! Do you have any idea how nice it is to have actual, real-life friends who aren't fictional people in books, and who aren't related to you by blood?!"
"What's wrong with having your father as a friend? I am a wonderful friend to have!" he argues, clearly missing my point.
"I don't need you as my friend, I need you as my father! But you can't even do that right lately!"
I start to feel a little bad about saying something so harsh, but the next words out of his mouth make me not even care.
"You're hanging out with hookers and doing hooker things! You think that just because you sneak out of this house and keep secrets from me that I don't know what's going on?! I'm your father! I was born with eyes in the back of my head, young lady. I know when my daughter is being hookerish!"
"THAT'S NOT EVEN A WORD!" I scream. "For your information, I've been sneaking out of the house to start my own business with my friends WHO ARE NOT HOOKERS! And you know what? This business has taken off and it's doing amazing! But I don't get to really appreciate all of this amazingness of a business I helped start until I can behave like the grown woman I am, experiencing new and exciting things, and not have to sneak out of my father's fucking house every night like a child!"
"HOOKER LANGUAGE!" he roars, pointing a finger at me. "A recent study shows that swearing is a result of a lack of education, laziness, or impulsiveness. In twenty-five years, I would never use one of those words to describe you, until now. Until you started hanging out with riffraff hookers with questionable morals! And now you've started a business with these hooligans?! What has gotten into you, Isabelle?"
He folds his hands together under his chin and stares up at the ceiling.
"Why, God, whyyyyyyy?!" he wails.
"Will you stop with the dramatics? And stop treating me like a child! You need to let me go, Dad. You need to let me make my own choices and, yes, my own mistakes. You can't shield me from everything and everyone. Don't you understand?
I'm dying living like this all the time. I don't want to sneak out of the house, and I don't want to keep secrets from you, but you've given me no choice!"
With a huff, he drops his hands down to his sides and lifts his chin in the air.
"Fine. If I'm killing you so much by loving you and putting a roof over your head and spending every waking moment making sure you're safe, then you should leave. Pack your things and go. I hope you'll find everything you need with your new prostitute friends."
With that, he turns and walks out of the room, but of course I feel the need to have the last word.
"FOR THE LAST TIME, THEY ARE NOT PROSTITUTES! BUT THEY ARE STRIPPERS! AND YOU KNOW WHAT? I'M GOING TO BE A STRIPPER TOO! HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT, HUH?! I'M GOING TO TAKE MY CLOTHES OFF FOR MONEY BECAUSE I'M AN ADULT AND I CAN DO WHAT I WANT!"
I emphasize my point with a stomp of my foot, even though my dad is already down the hall and in his bedroom, evident by the loud slam of his door. Which is good, considering I just screamed at him that I was an adult and then stomped my foot ... but whatever. I'm finally free! I'm finally getting out of my father's house and away from his ridiculous rules and overprotectiveness!
Slipping off my remaining shoe, I happily start skipping across the floor to head down into the basement to pack my bags, but then I come to a dead stop in the doorway.
Oh, shit. I'm finally free and getting out of my father's house.
Where in the hell am I going to live?!CHAPTER 2
"That's the saddest thing I've ever seen."
I pause from opening up the box of books that were delivered to the library, a wash of embarrassment rushing through me, wondering if Mrs. Potter is talking about me. When I see her staring down at the small box of five measly books with a sad look on her face, I realize she's not referring to the dark circles under my eyes or my wrinkled clothes.
I ran out of the only home I've ever known last night with one small duffle bag packed with as many things as I could quickly grab, which wasn't much. Hence the wrinkled clothes. Since it was the middle of the night when I left, I didn't want to make Ariel come back and get me when she was probably still a little annoyed about the black eye and broken nail. I knew Cindy was busy with PJ and didn't want to interrupt. I don't have a car, so I went to the only place I could think of that was within walking distance — my library. My home away from home, which has now become my actual home. I've been too chicken and embarrassed about what happened with my dad to call either of my friends today and ask if I can stay with them for the time being. I hate imposing on them, but that's what friends are for, right? They're supposed to be there for you in your time of need. I just need to gather up the courage to ask them and stop being so worried about putting them out.
"I remember the days when we needed ten people to open up the book deliveries, catalogue them in the system, and put them on the shelves," Mrs. Potter muses as she rests her elbows on the counter of the reference desk.
I try to share her smile as she reminisces about happier times here at the library, but it's impossible. The first Saturday of every month used to be my favorite day here. The day when all of the books we'd spent hours and hours researching and ordering over the last month showed up. The day when it was all hands on deck and employees knew not to even ask for the evening off because after closing time, we'd have hundreds of new books to go through and put on the shelves. And no one even cared about working on a Saturday night once a month because we always made it fun. Everyone would bring in food to share, and everyone would be giddy with excitement and the smell of new books. Even before I was put in charge here, it was always my favorite day to work.
There's no giddiness today as I pull out the five new books I was just barely able to afford. There's just a deep sadness that has taken over my heart because I couldn't even order more than one copy of each of those books, and my throat grows tight with the need to cry when I think about the hundreds of other books I wanted so badly to order, but couldn't. There's not a group of employees standing around, oohing and aahing with each box I open. There's just me and Mrs. Potter, and one lonely box of five books.
Reaching into the box, I pull out the new true-crime thriller that took me three weeks of saving every penny Cindy gave me to buy. I bring it up to my nose, closing my eyes and breathing deeply. When the smell does nothing to brighten my mood, I quickly set it down on the counter next to the others and give Mrs. Potter a big smile that I know doesn't reach my eyes and feels completely fake.
"Things around here are going to get better very soon, I promise," I say. "I have a plan; it's just taking a little bit longer than I expected. But don't worry, Mrs. Potter. In no time at all, things will be like they used to be." I reach across the counter to rest my hand on top of hers and give it a squeeze.(Continues…)

This was a cute, sexy, and funny story. I loved how Beast and Belle both grew in the story. I did not expect the twist! That was interesting. I really like this series and can not wait to read Ariel's and Erik's story.
Lots of fun
In Bed with the Beast by Tara Sivec is the second book in her funny and sexy Naughty Princess Club Series. A modern day retelling of the Beauty and the Beast theme. Belle is a sheltered woman who is surprised when her over protective father kicks her out of her house. Even more surprising is when surly bouncer, Vincent, is the one to come to her rescue. Now that she is no longer under the protective thumb of her father she is ready to spread her wings and fly, but when Vincent also tries to control her she learns that she has a backbone and is ready to use it. Vincent is a surly grumpy man of few words. But Belle has worked her way into his system and he can't do anything but keep her as close as possible. Things get out of control and the more he tries to take charge of the situation the worse it gets. Will he able to back off and let her be the woman she is trying to be? Hilarious, quirky, and sexy and sweet. This naughty princess Belle has met her match in Vincent. Enjoy!
Once upon a time... three Beautiful women lived on or near Fairytale Lane. The first book in the series tells us how the group came together and is the story of Cynthia (Cindy Ella) and how she finds her Prince Charming. This book is about Isabelle, aka Belle. The shy librarian lives in her father's basement, uses every cent she makes to buy books and falls in love with The Beast, aka Vincent, who is the bouncer at Charmings Nightclub. When Belle decides to stand up to her father, he throws her out of the house. After spending several nights sleeping on the floor of the library, Vincent suggests an alternate living arrangement. She also wants to start doing parties for the Naughty Princess Club so has to shake off her shyness and naivety to dance at Charmings. Belle is a hoot. This shy librarian can really let someone have it when she gets angry. When her sexy side is let loose, her and Beast have some interesting meetings, one taking place in her library. Ariel and Cindy are also a part of this story, but Belle takes center stage. We also get to know a bit more about her father in this story. I just love how Tara Sivec comes up with these ideas and makes them both hilarious and sexy. I actually enjoyed Belle's story more than Cindy's so I am looking forward to reading the next/last book in this series to see what she comes up with. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.
This is my first book by this author. The story is a very light humorous read with a spin on Belle and the Beast. It's a 2nd in a series but is a standalone......which is how I read it. I don't think you miss anything by not reading Cindy's book. At times there were parts where it was so ridiculous, it was funny but for the most part I just couldn't get into the humor because it was so far fetched. I think this author is known for this kind of humor but it's just not my cup of tea. Belle is a nerdy librarian who is trying to keep her precious library open. Beast/Vincent is a bouncer with a past. There is a lot of interaction with her friends Cindy and Ariel, who I found to be extremely annoying. In fact I dont want to read about Ariel because of her personality in this a book. I found Beast a bit lacking in personality and the chemistry between the 2 was lacking. Also I was annoyed with how Belle reacted to what Beast was hiding....she was very wishy washy. The book was fine if you're in the mood for a funny and very light-hearted read.
Cute retelling of an old favorite with some classic Sivec humor I’ve enjoyed this author’s books in the past, especially her brand of humor, and was in the mood for something a bit lighter. I’ve always thought the twist on a well-known fairytale is an interesting trope, and was really looking forward to how Miss Sivec would spice up Beauty and the Beast while making me laugh. Although I did enjoy this and I laughed at a good number of parts, I have to admit I was a bit underwhelmed. In Bed with the Beast is the second book in the Naughty Princess Club but can easily work as a standalone, which is how I read it. When I started the book, I found myself giggling and smiling, thinking the opening scene was promising both in the plot and humor-wise. And for the most part, the plot was pretty good and an interesting riff on a well-known fairytale. I love the idea of The Naughty Princess Club, and I loved the idea of Belle being the hot but nerdy librarian, but it just failed to really catch fire for me and I really lost interest by the second half of the book. Miss Sivec is known for her crazy, sometimes outlandish humor and I’m generally willing to roll with the ridiculous when it’s just too funny. This time it felt a little forced compared to this author’s other romantic comedies. I also didn’t quite connect fully with Belle, maybe she was a bit too innocent and naïve for my tastes, and found Vincent (Beast) to lack in depth. So despite a strong and promising start, this ended up being a miss for me in a few different areas. I think if you’re a fan of this author or retelling of fairy tales and are looking for a breezy, light book, In Bed with the Beast may be just the ticket. *eARC received via Netgalley. In Bed with the Beast by Tara Sivec is a beauty and the beast retelling that combines a grumpy bouncer, a stripping librarian, and more humor than you can imagine. I loved fairy tale retellings, and the naughtier edge to this one had me intrigued! Belle is in a bit of a jam. Kicked out of her father’s basement, she doesn’t have anywhere to live and the city is threatening to close her library to top it off! She is also part of a company with her two friends, the Naughty Princess Club, where they dress as princesses and strip. Only Belle’s turn it up, and it just might be the ticket to finding her feet. To say this story line is original is a gross understatement! How could I say no to that blurb?? Exactly. I couldn’t. This was filled to the brim with humor and even though it felt a bit overdone at times, I was enchanted by this cast of characters. Then there’s our beast, Vincent. He starts coming into Belle’s library and though he’s grumpy and growly, there’s something about him that makes Belle want to be a little bad. But our beast has secrets that could keep him from his happily ever after. I really liked how this was Belle’s story, first and foremost. She’s growing up, looking to live out loud, all the while taking chances and Beast is the man caught in her web. Prepare to be entertained! I’m excited to see what the third installment in the series will bring about. 4 stars!
A tale as old as time: she needs a place to stay, he's a grump with a secret and an extra room...can love find a way? Meet the Naughty Princess Club, a series from USA Today bestselling author Tara Sivec that brings readers to Fairytale Lane and the hilarity—and romance—that three women fall into once they decide to strut their stuff and bring on their own happily ever after. Living in her overprotective dad’s basement, shy Belle lives her life through books. Being a part of the Naughty Princess Club is the first adventure she’s ever had, plus she desperately needs the money to save one of her favorite places - the local library. But when her new friends and new business gets her kicked out of her dad’s house, Belle is rescued by the surly Vincent “Beast” Adams who invites her to be his house guest until she gets back on her feet. Despite his attitude problem and long list of rules, Belle finds herself warming to the muscled man with a penchant for growling and starts seeing a gentle side to him that wasn’t there before. Yet there’s a room that Beast keeps locked and Belle keeps getting hints that Beast is hiding something…can a nerdy librarian tame the beast or will their romance be over before it has a chance to blossom? Review: This book was just plain fun to read. The story was fun, the characters were fun and even the dialogue was fun. I always say if a book can make me laugh out loud while reading it is a keeper, this one definitely did that. The blurb above gives a good gist to the whole story, so I won't repeat it all. I will give more of my feelings of the story. Besides having fun reading this, it gave me a light heart. I mean Belle and Beast do have their issues and obstacles that they have to overcome, but it is a feel good story. I have not read this Author before, but because I enjoyed this so much I will definitely be seeking out the other book in the series and her other works. Since I have not read this Author or the first book in series I was not sure if I would be lost or confused, but this can totally be read as a stand alone. A fun, unique and entertaining take on Beauty and the Beast. 5Stars *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book provided by the publisher.*
"—He makes me tingle and resembles a rude knight in shining armor." If you are looking for a good book to give you a giggle, you can't lose with In Bed with the Beast. I guarantee that you will adore all three of the sweet, sassy and sexy ladies in The Naughty Princess Club. Belle was especially fun because she's the innocent book nerd who works at a library. Who is more perfect to soften the heart of a grumpy beast? When I first met Belle and Beast while reading At the Stroke of Midnight he was the lucky recipient of her first-ever angry outburst. The shy, quiet, timid librarian let it fly and set him straight. That was my first inkling that those two might be perfect for each other and I was excited at the possibility as I started mentally matchmaking. When I took a sneak peek on Goodreads at the title of the next book in the series I didn't even have to read the synopsis to know what was coming. Yup, I felt the sparks, even then. While I was sad for Belle when her overprotective father kicked her out, I was also thinking to myself that it was about damn time she grew up and spread her wings. I mean really, she's twenty-five years old. Not that I'm judging her, I too was a book nerd that spent hours and hours alone reading when everyone else was out partying. But I wanted her to experience all the things she and I both missed out on. Somebody needs to experience the fairy tale, right? While I can't tell you too much, because it's not my secret to tell, but I admit that I was surprised by the Beast. While I knew he was a man of few words, and those were usually growled rather than spoken, I wasn't expecting what I eventually learned about him. Isn't it awesome when that happens? I really enjoyed watching Belle come out of her shell and the transformation of both her and Beast. As she got stronger he became more gentle, but only towards her. I could hear the "softness in his raspy voice" when he told her "you're so weird." And those girls...I laughed my ass off at their antics and banter, especially Ariel. I can see why the author saved her for last, that book's gonna be a doozy and I can't wait. The line forms here...
I love Tara Sivec's books so it’s no surprise how much I liked In Bed with the Beast. It’s the second book in the Naughty Princess Club romantic comedy series and I laughed throughout the entire captivating story. Belle is a shy, nerdy woman with no experience with men. That makes the new business she started with two friends really difficult since it’s a stripping business. In the beginning, just one of the women stripped at private parties while the other two did the administrative work until they were trained well enough to be ready to strip, too. Part of the reason Belle was so timid was because of her over-protective father, who she still lived with. That was until they had a falling out and he kicked her out of the house. She had nowhere to go so she was sleeping at the library. Her favourite place in the world. And it was about to be closed due to lack of funding. That’s why she went into business with her friends. To earn money to save her library. When Beast (Vincent), the bouncer at Charmings, the strip club where she planned to make her dancing debut, offered her his spare room until she could figure out something else, she hesitantly agreed to take it. She really didn’t have any other choice. He told her all the house rules with the most important one being to never go into the locked room. She was curious about the room but agreed to his list of do’s and don’ts. I loved the way Belle and Vincent were together. Even though she was timid and inexperienced she was not afraid of Beast (Vincent) like most people were. Maybe it was because she WAS inexperienced with men that she was able to see the real man and not the one everybody else was afraid of. Yes, he was a grouch and broody but he was kind and had a big heart, too. I liked that he felt so comfortable with her that he confided his past. For such an unlikely couple, they were a good match. Belle’s friends and business partners were terrific. I thought Ariel was especially funny. I loved this book! It`s a sexy romance that was hilarious. A must read.
I love any kind of fairy tale retelling and I especially love one based on Beauty and the Beast. This book did not disappoint. Belle is a bookworm who spouts random facts out at any given time. She’s never lived on her own, never been in a relationship and she has never had any friends. Now, she’s been booted out of her father’s basement, running a business with her two new best friends and is falling hard for Beast. I love a growly, grunting alpha hero and Beast/Vincent certainly lived up to that. He seemed to have Belle’s best interest at heart although he may have something going on that he’s keeping from her. We never get his point of view and I definitely missed having that. More so because he’s more of a growler than a talker causing the story to sometimes feel a little off balanced. I still enjoyed the heck out of this story though! Belle was so freaking cute with her nervous habit of spouting off trivia that no one needed or wanted to know. And when it came time to seduce Beast she was a hot mess that just made me love her more. Cindy and Ariel, her friends, are both heavily involved in this story and I loved getting a glimpse of Cindy’s relationship with PJ all while growing more excited to read Ariel’s story. This is a fast paced read with some heavy chemistry between the main characters along with fun and humorous scenes with the secondary characters. It offers a wonderful opportunity to escape the humdrums of day to day life and I loved every moment of it! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book is a play on the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast. Isabelle (Belle) just wants to save the library she works at by forming the Naughty Princess Club with her friends Cindy and Ariel. The business is renting a stripper for a home party. But when her dad finds out, he kicks her out of his basement and she doesn't want to bother her friends, so he sleeps on the floor at the library. But when Beast (the bouncer at a strip club) finds out, he takes her home to live with him. Belle only agrees so that she can the the experience with a man that she will need to become a working partner in the business. This is a cute romantic comedy that will have you laughing at the antics that Belle gets herself into along with her friends. And of course you know that Beast is going to end up being a prince and rescuing her. A great addition to this naughty series. I received an ARC courtesy of St. Martin's Press through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
Another stellar Naughty Princess Club story! Seriously, I don’t know if I’ve ever enjoyed a princess retelling so much before. The guys in them are not perfect, but man are they swoon-worthy. The ladies have got a lot going on in their life with a lot of mental roadblocks to overcome. Not to mention the hilarity of it all. It’s the perfect recipe for an amazing story that will have you glued to the pages until the very last word. Heck, I was cheesing like a loon at the ending of this book. Seriously, this story was amazing. While this is a retelling, it’s not verbatim to the story we all know. And yet, the author adds in so many similarities that are modernized to today that still gives you the feel of the classic Beauty and the Beast story. Obviously, Belle lives at home with her father, loves books, has a wealth of knowledge, looks past the growly Beast to the man inside, and ends up living with the Beast and falling in love. She goes on a couple of blind dates with a vain Gus Tone, and Steven Luminous who is looking for another lady in his life. There was even a cute scene where she teaches him to cook because he is absolutely horrible at it. Reminded me in the scene when Beast tries to do mundane things and is just too intense with the task. Well, Vincent (aka Beast) is the same way when trying to cook. There’s food every where, he’s passionate about trying something new with her, but he’s just too big and clumsy to have the certain finesse that it takes to make a meal… without making a mess. Not to mention the the fact of Vincent being horribly protective of Belle and only wanting her to be happy. I loved that we also got to see Belle blossom into a confident woman. When we first meet her, she’s this mousy bookworm who lives in her father’s basement. She sneaks in and out through the window so that her father doesn’t know she left the house. However, over the course of the story we watch her grow into this take-charge woman. She’s tired of people telling her that she’s not ready to strip, that she needs more experience around men in order to pull it off. She’s ready to take back her life and save her beloved library. Watching her slow transition to this confident person was probably one of the best parts of the whole story. However, watching he fumble through her transition was pretty hilarious, too. I mean, when someone tells you to dance sexy for them, this girl pulls out the Macarena! You guys, I can’t even. I was right there with Vincent like, “Uh… What are you doing?!” In Bed with the Beast is an all around amazing story. I honestly can not seem to praise this series enough. Cindy was a bit uptight and took me a while to get behind, but I really loved Belle’s story. Maybe because she had a long way to go to be confident in her own skin. Maybe because everyone around her seemed to underestimate her, and I can’t help but root for the underdog. I honestly don’t know what appealed to me with this story because BatB is not high up there on my favorites list of princess stories. However, I loved this story so much!
A blonde, a brunette, and a red head walk into a strip club... It sounds like the start of a joke or a porno but no. It's the start of a fun and highly entertaining business venture (or a book series). The Naughty Princess Club is everything you expect from suburbanites turned strippers. What!?! You haven't read how it all begins!? For shame! At The Stroke of Midnight started off this series of dominoes. In an unstoppable and way too much fun adventure, it's continued in In Bed with the Beast. This time it's Belle, the book worm nerdy librarian's turn at the pole! Clearly the Naughty Princess theme is key to this series. In these re-imaginings of the classic stories, it's hard to remember that it's an homage. The cute and funny side of Tara Sivec will blind you to the idea that you've read the basic plot before. The twist is worth it. The humor is definitely worth it. Tara Sivec brings a wildly inappropriate sense of humor and a bucket of lusty need to every book she touches. It would be a terrible disservice to not get naughty with the Naughty Princesses and their unintentional princes. Beauty and the Beast may be a classic that we all love and adore but In Bed with the Beast is definitely going to have you smirking and giggling long after you're done strutting your stuff. Awkward facts and all, Belle is everything you want in you new best friend.
5 Stars Ok seriously, this is like my new thing...reading a book by a new to me author every time I pick up a new book, (okay not every time, but it's happened a lot this year...Goodreads reading challenge and all hello!! LOL). So far, the choices have rocked and this book keeps me all beast mode like yea...another awesome book I chose to read! I'm already a sucker for fairytale re-writes, or whatever you want to call them, and as soon as I started in on this one, I couldn't put it down. First off, it's freaking funny as hell. My kids gave me funny looks and asked why I was laughing. Oh, nothing I can tell you guys *snicker snicker*...eye rolls. Second, Belle is pretty hilarious too! She's this brainiac that spews random facts when she's nervous or just during almost any conversation. They aren't completely random, they usually have to do with whatever the topic of discussion is, but it's freaking awesome and I totally need a friend like that! Her friends are equally hilarious. Ariel says some pretty laugh out loud things and I'm thinking she might be one of my favorites. I haven't read the first book in this series, but I will definitely be one clicking that bad boy after reading this. I can't type up a review without mentioning Beast, I mean, that would be totally wrong. He's...yep you guessed it... a FREAKING BEAST. Haha! He's also, a gentleman and sweet and a big old teddy bear once you get to know him. He see's more than most and he's more than just a growly, big beast of a man. There's a lot more to him than what meets the eye and he's definitely one of those don't judge a book by its cover type men. I love the back and forth banter him and Belle have and that she brings something out of him that no one gets to see. Really loved this story, (if you couldn't tell) and this author made a new fan today! Her writing style is just easy to read, very easily sucked me in with her words and I'm always a huge fan of humor in these kinds of books... this was definitely very humorous. If you don't like fairytale re-writes, with dirty mouthed princesses and badass prince charming type fellas, well then... what is wrong with you?! If you're like me and you love exactly those things...air hi-five and did we just become besties?!! I'm a nerd...and Belle is my favorite Disney princess, so of course, I loved this book. I'm looking forward to reading the first book and the rest to come in this series. And I lived happily ever after! #B2BKristina
In Bed With the Beast by Tara Sivec is Naughty Princess Club book #2. A contemporary retelling of Beauty and the Beast with Isabelle (Belle) Reading in need of money to keep her library going. She and her friends, Cin and Ariel start a stripping business to raise money. When her father kicks her out, Vincent "Beast" Adams takes her into his house, and he is just as big and growly as his name suggests. Told from Belle's perspective, she gains confidence and experience on her own out of her father's house and grows as a character. Vincent is definitely as possessive as you would imagine his character to be and as he and Belle spend more time together a romance between them grows. Overall I enjoyed In Bed With the Beast by Tara Sivec as a clever modern version of this classic story that has always been one of my favorites. These characters really are a "tale as old as time" and continue to be romantic and fun. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance review copy of this book I received for free from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my open and honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.)
This is a light hearted and comical twist on the fairytale Beauty and the Beast. It is book 2 in a series but you could read it as a standalone (although book 1 was great and you really should read it too). This is the tale of an awkward young "Belle" coming into her own and becoming a strong and down to earth woman who can take care of herself. It is also the tale of a "Beast" of a man who is a lot more than you see at first glance. Both Belle and Beast have issues to overcome. Together this couple who seem very unlikely just work perfectly together. The characters are engaging, the storyline flows well, and the plot is clearly thought out. I loved the hilarious antics in this one. Tara Sivec has proven once again that she is a master of romantic comedy. Now bring on Ariel's story!
I will admit…the whole premise of The Naughty Princess Club cracks me up. How cool is it to have the tables turned and it is a woman who is living in her over-protective dad’s basement when she decides to break rules? And her goal is to become an exotic dancer so she can keep her day job??? OMG, Belle is having a bad year. She goes from living in the basement to living in the library that she runs…until she is “rescued” by Vincent, or Beast, as he is known. I loved how this story was funny and sad and crazy and sweet and smexy as all get out. Belle’s two friends are hilarious, even when they are acting like clueless idiots. Seriously, sometimes the three of them reminded me of another slapstick trio from long ago. I really enjoyed the story, felt for both Belle and Vincent and their backstories, and recommend this story. I read the first story in this series but it is a standalone so no worries. I can’t wait to see how Ms. Sivec tops this book with the next Naughty Princess. I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
Book 2 in this series that I’m loving so much. I love the twists on my favourite Disney movies, and Belle and Beast are just perfect, I wasn’t expecting the author to be able to better book 1, but I’m happy to say she most certainly nailed it. A little more on the serious side, this story sees Belle leaving home and living in the library she’s worked at for 9 years, a library she’s desperate to save from closure. When Vincent ‘Beast’ Adams comes along and sweeps her off her feet and to his fairytale cottage, Belle starts getting ideas of ‘more’, Beast soon quelled those thoughts though, warning her away from him. This book can be read as a standalone, but with all the hilarious characters from book 1, along with a few additions, I just adored Mrs Potter, it makes sense to read these books in sequence. A cute, sexy read with some funny moments, lovely writing and lots of chemistry. I am so looking forward to getting stuck in to the next book. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It spoke to my inner princess and my love of Disney fairy tales in all the best ways. The mix of humor, romance, sexiness and vulnerability was beautiful to me as a reader. Isabelle needs to save her library, her only job and the only outlet her father has given her over the years. When he forbids her from seeing her friends, Cindy and Ariel, who are members of the Naughty Princess Club, well, she leaves. She stands up for what she wants and fights for it but she doesn’t have anywhere to go. Vincent noticed Belle the first night she was at the club where he works. When he figures out Belle is without a home, he offers his though he doesn’t see himself as relationship material especially as the strong, silent type. Well, Belle’s vibrancy and love of life can’t be swayed by Vincent which makes their interactions a joy to experience. As Belle works to save the library from closure, will she find love with Vincent? Will Vincent lose out on love by staying silent?
This story is a fun, sexy take on the story Beauty and the Beast. Isabelle "Belle" Reading has been the quiet, shy girl her whole life and now at 25 years old she is ready to have some fun, but her very strict dad has other thoughts on that idea. When Belle gets caught by her dad sneaking back into the house dressed up as he calls a hooker with her best friends Cindy and Ariel, she ends up moving out of her dad's house. Now living in the library where she works her life is falling apart. Belle just learned that the library is in danger of closing so Belle decides she is going to be a stripper at Prince Charming just like her friend Cindy. In the meantime, Vincent "Beast" Adams, who works at Prince Charming, keeps showing up at the library. Beast finally tells her she can move into his house instead of sleeping on the floor of the library each night, but he has a few rules that she needs to abide by. The biggest one is not going into the one room that is locked! As the two of them try to navigate living together, it is fun watching the big, surly, gruff guy deal with the sweet, quiet, shy girl. When Belle tells Beast that is going on blind dates to try and learn how to be sexy so she can be a stripper to earn money for the library, he is not happy. Each of her dates turn out worse the last! When Beast finally agrees to help her be sexy, that is when the fun begins. As these two get closer and closer, past secrets start to be revealed. What Belle doesn't know is that the biggest one has yet to be revealed. It takes a leap of faith that truly can stand the test of time! Beauty and the Beast is my favorite fairy tale so I knew I'd love this story. It was fun, entertaining and sexy all at the same time. I really loved how every now and then a part of the story popped up that mirrored the original. Overall I really enjoyed Beast and Belle and their path to their happy ending!
Belle and Vincent are the latest couple depicted in the latest Naughty Princess Club story. Belle is a librarian (of course) and Vincent is a bouncer at Charm's, which is a strip club. Belle is very sheltered and still lives at home with her dad in his basement, even though she is 25. She sneaks out with the girls every night and is aching to find freedom from her overbearing father. The library that she runs is out of funding and stripping is her solution to their money problems. She and Vincent could not be more different if they tried. Belle is verbose and Vincent barely grunts his responses. Belle lacks self-confidence and Vincent oozes confidence in everything he does. Belle misses obvious clues that Vincent is into her and disregards all attempts to tell her otherwise. When Belle finds herself homeless and about to be out of a job, Vincent steps in to help her. Their living arrangement was interesting. While Belle is finding out who she truly is, Vincent is trying to protect her even when she insists he doesn't need to. She feels her father was overbearing enough and does not want anyone telling her what to do ever again. I did feel Belle needed to act more grown up and less like a toddler at points (slamming doors and stomping her feet). They do clash quite a bit. It was interesting how many times Belle would quote random facts when she got flustered and Vincent would just roll with it. Although quite introverted, Vincent had a lot of depth to him. His past was not all roses and sunshine and his present demeanor reflected that. His secret was not what I was expecting and that's all I'm going to say about that. If you enjoyed the first book in this series, this one will be right up your alley. Belle relies upon her friends to help her fulfill her dreams. Their antics were funny, interesting and in true keeping with the first book in this series. I am intrigued to see what happens in the next book. I was honored to receive an ARC from St. Martin's Press for my honest review.
Fun, sexy, and a touch of hilarity in this modern telling of the Beauty and the Beast. Belle has been living in her father's basement to save money but he finally kicks her out of the house and with nowhere to go she moves into her library. When Vincent finds out he offers to let her stay with him until she can find a place. This comes with lots of rules, of course, but with him being known as the "beast" you would expect nothing less. Did I mention fun and sexy and funny? I definitely recommend this one! **Received this ARC for review from the publisher via NetGalley**
A Laugh out loud, think I may have peed a little, snorting drinks out the nose read. Yes guilty to all. In fact I think I scared my cat just a little. This is why I love all Tara Sivec books. Not only does she give you major laughs but she also gives you amazing real characters with the edge of total hotness. In Bed with the Beast (in case you haven't figured it out yet) you get Belle the librarian filled with all sorts of facts, Beast aka Vincent who is more then what you think. Vincent is gruff and total Alpha make your lady bits tingle all man. Belle may be a little quirky but she is finally ready to take her place in the Naughty Princess Club. And boy does she use Beast to her advantage. Mrs. Potter is one of my favorite side characters. You can't help but love the loveable old lady with no filter who works with Belle. You have everyone back in this with Cindy and Ariel trying to help Belle gain more male experience. Not only will you be laughing your booty off with every dating misstep but you will fall in love with Vincent's protectiveness. But just wait for it.......you'll see.........In Bed with the Beast is one of my favorite reads from Tara. This series keeps getting better and better. I can't wait for Ariel's story and I'm kind of hoping that Tara can come up with a few more princesses to through in the mix for even more books. Honestly I don't want this one to end. I mean come on it's funny, sexy and full of surprises as you flip through the pages. A MUST READ!!!!
Ever since I finished At The Stroke of Midnight, I have been impatiently waiting to get my hands on the next book in the Naughty Princess Club Series, and let me tell you, it was so worth the wait. In Bed With The Beast was everything I had wanted and had been waiting for. From the moment I started reading this book, I was totally sucked into Belle and Vincent's story. Their chemistry and banter made it impossible for me to put this book down. I was addicted and had to see how their story would play out. Tara Sivec has knocked it out of the park with her witty banter and entertaining story-line. These characters are just so much fun and so easy to relate to; you just can't get enough. I mean, you think you know their stories, but what this author brings to their stories will knock you off of your feet. She breathes fresh life and sexiness into our favorite fairy-tales and will keep you begging for more. In Bed With The Beast captivated me from page one. I couldn't get enough of Belle and Vincent together. They were the perfect match, but neither one of them was ready to realize it. I loved how raw and intense Vincent was. He was a total jerk with a heart of gold. And Belle...she was so sweet. So innocent. She wanted it all: the romance, the swoon, the happy ending. She couldn't be more opposite of Vincent, but it just worked. These together had some amazing chemistry. Their push and pull had me begging for more. And even though I am very familiar with the tale of Beauty and The Beast, Tara Sivec gave me a sexy and sweet story with some terrific twists that just left me breathless..... In Bed With The Beast is a terrific addition to The Naughty Princess Club Series. This book was sexy, smart and just a whole lot of fun. It is the absolute perfect book to spend your afternoon getting lost in. I loved the banter. I loved the chemistry. I loved the angst and drama. I loved all the little moments with Belle and Vincent. I loved seeing their relationship grow and how they changed one another. I loved getting to spend time with Cindy and Ariel again. They had me laughing so much and I just love seeing what trouble these ladies are going to get themselves into. I am telling you now, I just know that Ariel is going to be a force to be reckoned with when we finally get our hands on her story and I can not wait!! Simply put, I just loved this story. It is a fantastic fairy-tale re-telling and The Naughty Princess Club is quickly becoming one of my favorite series'. It's one that I can easily see myself reading over and over again. This series just keeps getting better and better. I don't know about you guys, but I will be sitting here waiting very impatiently to get my hands on Kiss The Girl, later this year!!! I can't wait for more and I hope you'll give this fun and sexy series a try.
