Overview

Beatrix Rose was the most dangerous assassin in an off-the-books government kill squad until her former boss betrayed her, her husband was gunned down, and her daughter kidnapped.

A decade later, Beatrix emerges from the Hong Kong underworld with payback on her mind. It’s a blood feud she didn’t start but she is going to finish.

There are six names on her Kill List. With one already crossed off, Beatrix sets out to find her second target, a mercenary being held hostage by Somali terrorists. Can she infiltrate the most dangerous failed state on the planet and scrub him off the List, too?

Packed with explosive action and page-turning suspense, In Cold Blood is the first novel in Mark Dawson’s bestselling Beatrix Rose series.

I was enjoying it until it started referencing the author's John Milton series. Then I realised this book is just an advertisement. Shame on the author.

145 pages, cliff hanger. I did not care for it. I am so tired of books, I invest time in, not having a conclusion. Then having to spend money to find out what happens next. Sometimes I have to buy seven or eight books to get any kind of a resolution. I wish prior readers would state in their reviews if the books are short installments, cliff hangers or just plain awful. This one was well edited. I did not care for it. I guess I am a bit out of touch, but when the heroine of this book gave her thirteen year old daughter four different types of gun sliencers for the girl's birthday, it lost me. I did read to the lack of ending and was upset, I had wasted my time. Do not waste yours. Please post the bad as well as the good on these books, reviewers.this is not chick lit. It is violent, mundane, inane and the heroine is more masculine then feminine. It is a dark, gritty novel and leans more towards a man's read. AD AD

I have read all of the Beatrix Rose series and for me she has become the best thriller hero of them all. It's an outstanding job by the author of making a woman the hero assassin. We were introduced to Beatrix in John Milton series #4 and I couldn't wait to read more. You will not be disappointed by this series by Mark Dawson. I highly recommend you read all of his works.

This was sort of an unexpected mystery and enjoyed this book!

This is a violent revenge novel, written from the perspective of an assassin who has been betrayed and is intent on destroying those responsible for her suffering. She also has a deadline, living under a life sentence of cancer that went too long untreated. It's not a pretty read, but depicts the dark in such a way that you understand it, even if you can't condone it. I recommend this book, but only if you can live with the darkness and the hopelessness that is inherent in the subject matter... and, of course, this is the first of the series, ending with somewhat of a cliff-hanger. You may want the rest of the series, or you may be satisfied to leave it there, with a pretty good idea of what might happen next.

If you like "spy" thrillers where the lady knows her business and is out for revenge then this book is for you.

This book was entertaining enough. Short and easy to read.

So glad I base my purchases on whether the jacket write up intrigues me and not on negative reviews. This was a fantastic read and i'm excited to delve into more by this author..loved this character and it's nice to see a smart, totally rockin female assasin for a change.

Spin offs can go either way, they work or don't. Dawson did a fabulous spirit off series with Beatrix Rose, a character in his John Milton series. Milton was trained by Beatrix but leaves his Milton series early. She came back with a literal vengeance! Normally, a spin off should be read in order following the main series. That is not really necessary here as Beatrix Rose can stand on its own merit. In fact, I read these before ever discovering John Milton. I don't regret it for an instant. They are that good. You can't even look at these in a James Bond way. You'd be safer thinking La Femme Nikita meets Hit Man. Mark Dawson is a must read series of books.

One thing the author can do is create a vivid imagery for readers. This novel sort of reminds me of the Kill Bill movies by Quentin Tarantino, who happens to be a groundbreaking writer and director. In this novel, Beatrix is definitely out for blood, but her time is limited. You will have to read “In Cold Blood” to find out why. Held my interest. Thought it was going to be a typical XCop book but it held my interest and I would recommend it. Looking forward to book 2.

Didn't have an ending - just another "hook" books. Have to buy the next one and it will be another "hook" ending. I can forget about this one and the follow ups.
