A queen doesn't have to choose.

75,231 words.

Embracing what you are is complicated, especially for MaryEllen Forsythe-Drew. Born into the kind of privilege that makes you a target, she's been battling unknown enemies her whole life. At least she knew who and what she was...or did she?

Things only got more complicated when three Lion Shifters came into her life and announced that she was their mate. Trying to please one man was hard enough, but to please three seemed impossible. Then she realized she didn't have to please anyone.

They had to please her.

The Pride's Luna rises triumphant, and woe unto any who get in her way...

Hold onto your hats because book two has arrived to take you on a roller coaster of a ride with El, Ryan, Shawn, Trip and Marc. Witnessing El discovering the depth of her abilities and tapping into her growing powers is enchanting. This woman who has been treated so badly and allowed herself to be cowed discovers aspects of herself and her past that explain a lot about why her family, especially her mum, has treated her the way she has but raises more questions in the long-run. Someone is still out to hurt the leadership of the pride and Ryan's mum is not going to make things easy. The writing flows well, the characters have a great depth to them and the relationship between this bunch is evolving wonderfully. With the cliffhanger at the end I cannot wait for the next in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

The continuation of the story from the first book (Finding Luna) to this second book (In Heat) is excellent & flawless. The characters are quite well-developed, with individual personalities that complement each other in various situations. The story-line is intriguing, well thought out and written. There is: a woman coming to terms with the fact that she is a dual-natured shifter (Maryellen aka El), her four mates (Ryan, Trip, Marc & a human male Shawn), Ryan’s bitter & angry interfering mother (Leilani), twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, mystery, magic, secrets, adventure, some action, danger, enemies, threats, explosions, deceit, betrayal, family issues, lion shifters, panther shifters, wolf shifters, law enforcement, memories, pride politics, mate bonds, discovery, species prejudices, a unpleasant surprise, confrontations, ritual, steamy scenes. I really enjoyed reading this shifter reverse harem romance but sadly this book does end on an exciting cliffhanger & I am waiting with great anticipation for the next book.

This second book in the Pride series continues the story of El and her men. While the first book was packed with action and danger, this one continues the danger, but the action is quieter. It's still there, but it's more subtle as this group works to figure out the aftermath of that jaw-dropping cliffy from the first book. We also get some terrific surprises about El, and with each answer comes a whole new bunch of questions. We're given some of each character's backstory in this one, some of what makes them who they are now, which is one of my favorite things about this reverse harem romance. So often, in a love story with this many players, someone gets left out, but the author does a wonderful job of giving us a bit of everyone. Each player is as important to the story as everyone else. We see that a lot in this part of the story, and I enjoyed those quieter, softer moments between the characters. This is a continuing story, so I would definitely recommend starting with book one, and be prepared because Becca Fanning surely knows her business when it comes to cliffhangers. Once again, she's left me with my jaw hanging open and my foot tapping in impatient anticipation of what comes next for these characters.

I have read almost all of Ms. Fanning's books and I must say that this one and the first in the series are the best yet. I absolutely loved all the drama and excitement as well as steam in this book! All her books are good but this one is fantastic! You will definitely want to follow El and her men as they try to figure out what has made so many changes in her and who is trying to kill one or all of them! I really hope she writes the next one fast. It will be hard to wait to find out what happens next!

The second book in the Pride series a well written book, I found that this one was even better than the last book. The Harem is coming together as a unit but they still have things to work out. The ending was a surprise. I received a copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing.
