As a sports fan and romance reader, I’m naturally drawn to sports romances. Although I’ve read about a variety of sports, I’ve never watched or read about professional wrestling. I also don’t run across that many romances with two persons of color as the leads, so I was definitely intrigued about In His Corner. This title is the second book of the Champions of Desire series. There’s clearly an overlap of characters from the first book since the series follows a pro-wrestling company, but I found it easy to jump in and read In His Corner as a standalone. Overall, this book was a little up and down for me. I liked the idea of longtime partners and friends pursuing their attraction to one another. I also found both characters interesting and generally liked them. However, I always struggle when the main conflicts stem from failure to communicate or thinking oneself isn’t worthy of their love interest. I will say the author explained the whys for the characters’ assumptions and actions/inactions, but it still needled at me and made it more difficult to stay invested in the characters. On the flip side, the subplots and conflicts were interesting, especially Brandon’s struggle with intimacy. The idea of a mole in the company was also a fun storyline, and I liked that both heroes showed substantial growth over the course of the book. So yeah, lots of ups and downs is the best way for me to describe the way I felt reading In His Corner. Although my interest in this story at points definitely waned at times because of the hot-cold routine by both characters and a slightly stilted writing style, I have to round up to three stars because the good parts were different and made an impression. So many sports romances play down the sports part of the story, and that certainly wasn’t the case with In His Corner. Considering I’m not a fan of pro-wrestling, Miss Tomlinson did a fantastic job representing the sport, both the live and behind-the-scenes portions. Those scenes were described with detail and the excitement of the in-ring action catching. She also developed relationships with secondary characters which caught my attention and intrigued me about their individual stories. I think anyone looking for a different sort of sports romance may enjoy this title and series. *I received an eARC of this title, the author had no influence over this review*

I picked up this read after an author I follow said she had read it and enjoyed it. I am glad I did because I loved it. The two main characters were part of a wrestling group, and even though I don't follow wrestling myself, I found it quite entertaining to read about it. There were times I just felt like telling Tré and Brandon to pull their heads out of their butts and actually discuss what they are thinking and feeling rather than assume they knew what the other wanted. I loved the connection between Tré and Brandon and how the wrestling group were like one big family, looking out for one another. After reading this, I will be checking out more of this author's work.
