This books tries to give the reader an idea of what it was like to be a non-Jewish German citizen while Hitler and his Nazi's were in power. The author gets a bit repetitive about mundane things such as preparing dinner and "mother's list." It did have a few hints at people disappearing or being arrested, but this seemed like a background to their everyday life. I hadn't realized until I started reading the book that it was geared for children between the ages of 8 and 10. As an adult I found the book a bit boring with no real action and substance, but it may intrigue a very young reader.
