VOLUME ONE

SOME LOVE STORIES HAVE ONE BEGINNING AND ONE ENDING. THIS LOVE STORY HAS MANY.

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julie Ann Walker comes an epic story about sacrifice, friendship, and the awe-inspiring power of love.

Maggie: Ten years ago, Cash Armstrong stole my heart. Then he promptly joined the army—dragging my best friend with him—and left me crying on the front porch in a red sequined prom dress. Now he's back. They're both back. Cash, the one who still has my heart. And Luc, the one who saved my life.

Cash: How do you know if you're at the end of the beginning or the beginning of the end? That's what I've been trying to figure out since a traumatic brain injury made me "unfit to serve." I'm back in New Orleans, and picking up the shattered pieces of my past means I must confront where my life's journey began... and where it all might end.

Luc: Long ago, Maggie May was mine. Not mine in the way you might think. She was mine because she was my only friend. Then Cash came along and we became brothers by something stronger than blood. We became brothers by choice. When tragedy struck, I was forced to make a decision that changed all our lives. I thought, after ten years, it was safe to come back home. I was wrong...

This is obviously the book that lays down the set up for the past and the reunion of the characters. There are several complications/issues that have been revealed, but everything is moving quite slowly in the story. I am also frustrated with the characters evasive actions with each other when it comes to plain communication. I will purchase the 2nd part. Depending on how it is, I may finish the series.

I love her books but this really dragged the story line the whole book. I finished the series and found it should have been made into a single book. I feel like certain parts were beat into the ground over, and over, and over again. Very emotional book, couldn't guess what was next.

Sweet, tender and emotional! Three teenagers forged a connection a decade ago that felt like it could have lasted a lifetime, but closely held secrets have a way of blindsiding people when they least expect it. Cash chose to leave with Luc close behind him and Maggie was left to pick up the pieces of her life. Now they are sashaying back into town and she's not sure what they expect from her. There's a secret that still hasn't been explained to the reader, and what's going to happen between the three of them is still up in arms. She wants one man, he's playing hot and cold, but the other man admits to always loving her. Stay tuned to book two and three where their saga continues. Years ago Maggie Carter lost her heart to Cash and had big plans for the future running through her teenage mind. They were shattered when Cash up and joined the military and left town without any warning. Her wounded heart was upset yet again when her best friend Luc followed behind him. Years have passsed but Cash Armstrong is heading home to New Orleans. He knows he hurt Maggie, and that being estranged from her for all of these years was even worse ... but he needs to reconnect. A traumatic brain injury might have ruined his military future, but he has a plan in mind when it comes to Maggie. Luc Dubois adored Maggie all those years ago and stood by her as a devoted friend even though she chose to fall for Cash instead of him. He forced himself to put distance between them after he went into the service in hopes it would protect her from the secret they don't want anyone to find out about.

This is the first book in this trilogy about three friends who come together over the love of Harry Potter in high school in New Orleans. Maggie May and Cash with Luc as the best friend and all is going great until Cash Luc disappear...for ten years. Flash forward and they are back. This is a character-driven story that is sometimes, often times, slow going. This story is told in first person and lets us know at the first of the chapter who is talking and we are taken back and forth for glimpses of the past and present to bring us up to date. Maggie May is a very loyal and sometimes too naive woman who didn't hear from Cash and Luc after they left but has waited for them and bought and opened a bar which was their dream. Cash is a rebel and rule breaker and his service has left him with a disability and brain injury. He has secrets and there is a mystery we will be finding out about in the coming books. Luc is the calm best friend who is the glue who I am cheering on. There is a lot of angst and the underlying mystery and love triangle is what keeps this slow-moving story going. On to book two! **Received this ARC for review**

I really enjoyed how the author brought you right into the heart of New Orleans and made you feel like you were actually there in person. It is an emotional triangle and ends on a cliff-hanger so I really like that all three books came out on the same day!

Julie Ann Walker does an amazing job of delving into teenage angst and first loves, while keeping true to her romance/mystery/action roots that we all love her for. The book keeps you reading, and wanting more, as well as pulls you into an emotional roller coaster that has you rooting for true love to prevail, and searching for answers you want revealed.

Cash Armstrong and Luc return home after ten years and multiple tours in special forces, to New Orleans and the girl they left behind Maggie. Cash was Maggie's first love and Luc's best friend. Cash returned home with a plan, but not sure what that plan is. Cash has been deemed unfit to serve after a traumatic brain injury while in the military, the only place he wants to go is back home to be with Maggie and Luc. Cash buys a house and begins to fix it up with Luc while Maggie is unsure what is going on with the two men she grew up with and love. Maggie had not heard from Luc and Cash since prom night in high school, but she continued on with their plans and opened her own bar. Even after ten years Maggie is optomistic for a second chance with Cash, but their relationship begins going in a direction that she didn't expect. While Cash has become an alcoholic, neither Luc or Maggie know what is truly going on with him and the true amount of pain he is in. Throughout part 1 of the trilogy, I wasn't sure which way the story was going to go. Maggie was trying to convince Cash that they belonged together and was constantly let down. No matter what happened Luc was right there to pick her back up. I hope that Luc and Maggie get their chance because he has always stood beside her and helped her through the most difficult time in her life. Whatever is going on with Cash I think is going to make me cry in the end ... I hate crying. But I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with these three friends. Received an ARC from Julie Ann Walker and voluntarily posted review.

As soon as I read the blurb on In Moonlight and Memories, Volume I, I was intrigued and after finishing, I’m still intrigued. This isn’t your typical boy meets girl, they fall in love. And so on. There is so much more; I need answers, I need for my heart to stop racing....just waiting. Okay, I’m diving into Volume II now..... Reviewed by: Dana D.

In volume one, we meet Maggie May, Cash, and Luc. Three friends that have a secret that is only hinted at, but not revealed. There is also a love between them all, but the romantic love between Maggie and Cash is on and off due to a past that won't go away, with Luc being the go between for them both. It was heartbreaking to see the past and the present of young love as Luc stands back without voicing his love for Maggie. The secret that binds them all together is peeked at, but not completely revealed in this book. A beautiful story of love in all its elements, "In Moonlight and Memories" is a trilogy that is not to be missed. I was gifted Volume one and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion. Looking forward to finding that HEA for them all. 5 Stars!

This is a trilogy of books that takes us on a journey with the 3 main characters. What starts off seeming to be a love triangle, in reality it truly isn't. Part 1 gives us a lot of the back story and shows us where the characters are in their lives currently. Part 2 expands on that and starts laying the groundwork for how their future relationships may become. But it also highlights how much people can hurt along with the lengths they will go to in order to deal with them. Part 3...oh part 3. It may have broken my heart. But it also shows just how much someone can love other people and want to do what they know is right for them. I really don't want to go into a lot of details with the way this all plays out because I honestly feel like that will ruin the journey that these books take you on. Let me just say, be prepared with tissues in part 3. Because not only do events happen that will break your heart-they just show the depths that someone people feel and what they are willing to do for those people. I definitely recommend reading all 3 but just remember that this is a trilogy so the first 2 are left on cliff hangers although they are full length novels. Well worth the reads though!

A totally different vibe from everything else I've read by Julie Ann Walker--heck, it takes place in New Orleans, a setting known for its laid-back, party atmosphere (where I totally want to go now, BTW--thanks for that, Ms. Walker!) not one of her usual adrenaline-fueled locations--I knew this 3 volume, 900-page series was going to be quite a commitment going in, but since I loved everything else I've read from her, I was game. Even though it's not a romantic suspense, there is plenty here to keep the reader guessing. Even though we get 3 POV characters in Maggie, Cash, and Luc, there are secrets that they're keeping--from the world, from the reader, and even from each other. One big secret (why Cash left 10 years ago) is finally revealed toward the end of this book--that question was driving me crazy--but there's plenty more to come in the next two volumes (what's "the Plan"? What exactly happened 10 years ago in the swamp?) and of course the suspense of whether or not the past will come back to haunt them all might make me crazy before the story's over. Thank goodness all 3 volumes are available at once! I can honestly say I'm not 100% sure where this story is going to end up, and that might keep me up for a few nights because I have to know, darn it. I'm not a huge fan of love triangles, and this one definitely veers that way--hopefully Ms. Walker can bring us to a resolution and HEA that takes into account how much I like all 3 of them... Now--back to reading for me. Volumes 2 and 3 await! Rating: 4 stars / B+ I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Julie Ann Walker is one of my all-time favorite authors and her Black Knights series is one of my go-to reads when I want to revisit “old friends.” So, yes, I was anxiously awaiting this new series! Set in New Orleans where there is plenty of food, intrigue, love, and potential for corruption, the series follows a trio of friends from youth to adulthood. It’s a complicated story that my mind drifted to while I worked during the day as I read the first 2 volumes – where is this going? What will Cash do? How about Luc? What will Maggie think? What really happened that night? While I knew it would be a love story going into it, my initial thought when reading was that this felt like a tragedy. I felt such love and angst throughout all 3 volumes. What I really love about Julie Ann Walker is that she gave us all 3 volumes at once so that we didn’t have to wait to resolve this complicated love story. Well-written with authentic Louisiana flair and a little bit of lagniappe. I'm ready for some good coffee and beignets! **I received an ARC and voluntarily submitted this review. Opinions are my own.

An epic journey of three friends. Their friendship and love spanned across time even when they were separated for ten years. Follow Luc, Cash and Maggie on their emotional journey as they handle their friendships, love, loss and mystery. These books are a spellbinding, emotional rollercoaster from the first book until the last . It was hauntingly beautiful.

The three volumes in Julie Ann Walker’s new trilogy In Moonlight and Memories are meant to be read together. The story flows seamlessly from one to another and together they are a complete whole. While I knew what was coming from the first sentence, it still wrecked me when we reached the inevitable conclusion. Told in alternating points of view (Cash, Maggie, and Luc) we see what all three of these characters are thinking and how they are all tied together. I felt in love with these characters, and the city that defines them. Be prepared with the extra-large box of tissues when you start book three, you’re going to need it. But keep reading, the end is worth it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

Young love, selfless friendships, unfulfilled dreams, shattered hearts and now, ten years later, the cycle may all start over again when two soldiers come home and the girl they left behind is still waiting, her heart on her sleeve. Julie Ann Walker’s IN MOONLIGHT AND MEMORIES Volume I lays an emotionally taut foundation that will follow three friends, Luc, the best friend, the voice of reason, the calm in the tempest of life and the man who can never share his feelings for Maggie, so settles on being the best friend he can be to both Maggie and Cash. But are his loyalties a little too selfless? Maggie and Luc were best friends, but her heart belonged to Cash, the rebel, the brash ruler breaker, the boy who broke her heart when he went off to join the army without telling her goodbye or why…now he has come home, damaged by war, permanently disabled by the head trauma he suffered, but still just as unpredictable. Will she and Cash take up where Maggie thought they left off or have the past ten years she spent pining for him all been a cruel lesson in life? The stage is set for a tale of three friends, three hearts and the power of pain, sacrifice and love. Julie Ann Walker has done a remarkable job of bringing her characters to life, creating the world they lived in a filling in the “whys” of what made these people who they are. Not a rapid-fire read, the over-the-top “action” comes through the emotions of each character, High on angst, definitely filled with a mysterious vibe that resonates beneath the surface, this love triangle is not the standard fare, but more like a triangle that has broken connections that seem impossible to repair. I received a complimentary ARC edition from Julie Ann Walker!

In the first volume of the M&M series, set in beautiful New Orleans, we are introduced to Maggie, Cash and Luc. Friends that bonded as teenagers. As Cash and Luc leave high school they enlist, leaving Maggie and return years later, changed. This is a very moving introduction to the series and I have to say that Ms. Walker hit this one out of the park! I won't delve into this volume too much as there are 2 more that complete this story. Suffice it to say, you will not be disappointed. 4 strong, starting stars****

WOW, is all I can really say. I'm so glad that I was able to read all 3 book at one time because I needed to know how the story was going to end. Ms. Walker will evoke every emotion from you in these books. The story is raw and will break your heart. It was such a great story. Loved it!

Wow. This is book one of three, so be aware that you will need to read all three to get the complete story. And what a story it is shaping up to be. This book's firm foundation is built on emotion; raw, powerful, intense emotion. Luc, Maggie and Cash are well characters that share a complicated history. The story line is very engaging and quickly pulls you in with its complex blend of drama, friendship, affection, desire, pain, secrets, suspense, angst and so many questions that desperately need answers. I eagerly look forward to reading the next book.

Sad, that is the main thought that comes to my mind after I have read this book. There is so much emotion that goes on in this first volume. It does get annoying to keep "hearing" as in it's in Cash's head "My Plan" but never find out what it is but expect both Luc and Maggie to just go the way he wants them to for "My Plan". I pretty much have figured out his plan but still. Maggie I think is also to eager to forgive both Luc and Cash so easily after everything they did over or didn't do over the last 10 years. I just feel bad for Luc as he seems to be always put in the middle but I also think at times he does it to himself. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next volume. *I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.*

This is a complicated, emotional & epic love story situated in New Orleans. Maggie & Luc have been best friends since childhood. Cash moves to New Orleans as a teenager, becomes best friends with Luc and through Luc, meets Maggie. Maggie & Cash Fall in love. Suddenly Cash joins the army & Luc follows him. Maggie is heartbroken as both boys have broken all contact with her and she doesn't understand why. Volume #1 - 10 years later after Cash has suffered a traumatic brain injury and is discharged from the army. Cash and Luc return to New Orleans to face Maggie. Cash hints at having a Plan, and is determined to set it in motion and not veer from it. This volume sets the relationship between the 3 main characters and hints at secrets and past tragedies. Volumes 2 and 3 follow. These books are unlike anything Julie has ever written, but she has written a powerful & epic love story that demands to be read! I received a complimentary ARC edition from Julie Ann Walker.

I'm not even sure where to begin reviewing this book. I have mixed emotions about the story. The fun times are soooooo much fun. But there's always a BUT during the fun. How can you be having fun when you're waiting for the other shoe to drop? There are some heavy issues in this book. Guilt, love, abuse, suicidal thoughts, heartbreak, desertion and taking care of one another. I enjoyed the Sunday brunches at Cafe du Monde and the adventures that would follow. They were so much fun. Having been to New Orleans before it was exciting to see something that is not on the tourist map. Watching Luc and Cash fix up the house left me wondering how are they going to earn a living. They've been home now for a few weeks, but neither has a job, nor are they looking for one. I guess they could've put away a chunk of money while they were in the service, but what are their plans. I guess I'll have to read Volume 2 to see if my questions are answered. I feel I have more questions than answers. I wonder if they will be answered.

I admit, I was hesitant to start this story. The synopsis and the very first lines promised to be set up for heart ache. But this is Julie Ann Walker we're talking about and her previous stories of the BKI guys never failed to entertain and make me smile. This story has a distinctly different feel - it's less action packed, less funny/light-hearted and the pace of storytelling is slower. But in there lies part of the power of this story's set up: we really get to know the characters. We feel and experience (rather than being told) what makes up their motivations, their desires and their personality. With ease, I connected with the protagonists and got emotionally involved into how their story will turn out. I am hooked to read the next installment!

A story about three friends: Magnolia “Maggie” Carter, Cassius “Cash” Armstrong, and Lucien “Luc” Dubois, who’s friendship started in high school. They share secrets that can eventually destroy them all. Cash and Luc are former Green Berets, returning to New Orleans (and Maggie) after ten years of service. Cash has a “plan” he intends to see succeeds. Luc tries to help his pal the best he can but Cash does not make it easy. Maggie has conflicting emotions about Cash and Luc’s return, especially when neither male will tell her the reasons why they left her behind. This story, especially the voice and tone, differs from the author’s BLACK KNIGHT INC. and DEEP SIX books. Maybe that difference is why I had difficulty getting into the story or connecting with the characters. The pacing felt slow to me, which often made me put the book down. Despite all that, I like the three’s loyalty towards each other. They always look after the other no matter the odds. I feel that Luc has made a lot of sacrifices for Cash and Maggie. NOTE: My review covers all three volumes VOLUME #1 IN MOONLIGHT AND MEMORIES Volume 1 by Julie Ann Walker introduces some of the back story, history and present day struggle of three friends in New Orleans, Louisiana: twenty six year old, Magnolia ‘Maggie’ May Carter, and twenty-eight year olds, Cassius ‘Cash’ Armstrong, and Lucien ‘Luc’ Dubois. Told from three first person points of view (Maggie, Cash and Luc) IN MOONLIGHT AND MEMORIES follows twenty six year old, Magnolia ‘Maggie’ May Carter, and twenty-eight year olds, Cassius ‘Cash’ Armstrong, and Lucien ‘Luc’ Dubois as they reconnect in the aftermath of ten years of silence in which Maggie Carter never stopped wondering what happened and why. Ten years earlier, Maggie and Cash were high school sweethearts but on the night of the prom, Cash disappeared without a trace leaving Luc Dubois to pick up the pieces of Maggie’s heart. What ensues is the rekindling but fragile friendship between Cash, Maggie and Luc, as they meander a minefield of memories, past betrayals, and the possibility of losing one another, all over again. IN MOONLIGHT AND MEMORIES is an emotional, raw, heart breaking and angst filled story of friendship, forgiveness, secrets and lies.
