In an effort to bring basic geography concepts to young children and early readers, Capstone has implemented the series "My World." This specific title utilizes three chapters totaling 110 words to accomplish the task. Two or three sentences in large type grace most of the odd-numbered pages. Repetitive vocabulary and many sight words work to give readers a successful experience. Realistic, attention-grabbing photos sit opposite the text to aid readers in comprehension. A map of a typical neighborhood is dotted with basic places from real neighborhoods. Readers are also informed that there are other kinds of neighborhoods. Other books in the series cover home, town, state, country, continent, and the world. A glossary, an index, and other resources comprise the end matter. A note at the front of the book informs teachers and parents that the series meets social studies standards for young students. Because of this, the book should be included in elementary classrooms and school libraries. 2006, Pebble Books/Capstone, Ages 5 to 8.
