I am a Ripperologist - I read everything I can find about Jack the Ripper and the murders in 1888. There are hundreds of books on the subject, but most of them are full of inaccuracies and untruths. This book is perfect for a beginner because it is very accurate, concise and the author has not inserted his personal theories or opinions. This book is not for those who already know alot about the Ripper because there is nothing new in it. But for everyone else, it is the perfect beginning. Well written, too!

I have read MANY books about Jack the Ripper. Some are way too wrapped up in the writer's pet theory about who Jack was and even twist or ignore the facts to promote their theory. There are only a few books about Jack the Ripper which are straight FACTS. I think that is what is most important to someone first reading about Jack. This book is great because the first half of the book details each murder - based on POLICE FILES and newspaper articles from the time. The second half is an explanation of MODERN police techniques which can be applied to each crime (from the author's PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AS A DETECTIVE) so that you can reach your own conclusions. If you want to learn the FACTS about Jack the Ripper, this is the book. Highly Recommended!

This is an excellent book about the Whitechapel murders. The author discuses in depth the facts about the murders, instead of choosing the probable murderer, he discusses the suspects and why these suspects could not have been the murderer. The book is well written.
