Liz's best friend rode off on the back of a motorcycle when she was 16 years old. Her body parts washed up on the shores of a Virginia beach community days later, prompting Liz's parents to sequester her away to Richmond, far away from the vicious murder. Now on her own, Liz returns to take back that part of her life and make peace with the events of her 16th summer.
John Williams's heart broke when, after being questioned in the grisly murder, Liz's parents spirited her away for good, leaving him grieving for his forsaken love. With the guidance of his father, the community preacher, John moves on with a clear understanding of his life's mission.
When another body turns up, safety becomes elusive, even in the small community church where the answers are hidden. Liz and John have to face the truth that the killer is still out there. Waiting. Watching them.

Judi Coltman did a wonderful job describing the setting of this thriller, set in my hometown. I could follow the story by her details, which made it a bit more realistic. I love the beach and may pay more attention of who is lurking around .... or not. This is one of those books that you think you have figured out, but it twists and turns until the very end.
I took this book on vacation thinking I would read leisurely in the evenings. Well, that went straight out the window on day one. I sat by the pool and read the thing from start to finish. It is a mystery, wrapped in a love story gone wrong wrapped in a psychological thriller all played out on the backdrop of a beach. I knew who the killer was from the start, until I got in a few chapters and then realized I was wrong. I figured it out again, until the killer really wasn't and the whole time, the characters I bonded with were in serious danger. . .or were they? This is a classic page-turner. A few adult situations (which never hurts :) and a heart stopping ending.
