In The Shadows is a sublime fusion of thirsty suspense & teenage angst. The youthful characters are somehow otherworldy, yet their intricate personalities are easy to identify with. Especially the beautiful Giselle, whom you will no doubt (as I did) fall head over heels. Julieanne Lynch's fluid narrative will draw you in, and the enthralling world of the supernatural she has created for us will follow you long into your dreams. This shadowy tale is both dark and mysterious, yet so wonderfully lit... Simply the BEST vampire novel this year. Samantha C Ross - Author of The Emmerson Witches

I finished this book a while ago and what can I say.. I really liked it. It , to me, wasn't a typical vampire book. The plot was a bit all over the place but her character, Giselle. I liked. I would like to see more of her, but a little more gutsy.. a little more in your face. I think she would be one hell of a kick ass vamp chick if she would just get up and kick booty! I would also like to see her give Alex what he deserves.. I feel she could have done a bit more, but will stick with the series. Maybe she is just getting started.

This book delivers more than a story, it is a new lease of life on the old tales of vampirisim. It is fast paced, thrill enduced and one book that leaves you wanting more. I loved everything about this book. It caught my attention in the first chapter and didn't let go until those final words delivered by, Antoine. My head was spinning from delight and my heart ached for more. It is hard to distinguish the kind of writer debut novelists are, but Lynch delivers everything in this groundbreaking novel, that I am inclined to say that there will be a bright future ahead for her in this industry. IN THE SHADOWS, is a read that makes you crave for more, and characters such as Giselle, Alex, Antoine, Marc, Atarah, Leonid and Afanas, give this book orignianlity that many fail to acquire. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves fast paced action, plots that twist and weave themselves continuously, and heartbreak. LOVED every minute of this beauty.

I got this last night after a recommendation from my mom, and holy mother of Christ, this was one amazing hot read. I loved the characters, the plot, the smells, the sensory details, in fact this book was just jam packed with everything that hits my buttons. God, Alex is so evil, but so sexy and Antoine, wow, he is one vampire I want to meet on a dark night - he can bite me anytime. Julieanne Lynch may be a new author, but wow, she knows how to reel you in and hook you. This is one book any vampire lover HAS got to read this year! Highly anticipate the sequel.

In the shadows by Julieanne Lynch was a highly enjoyable read.I loved how fiesty the character Giselle was.She really made the book exciting as did the character of Alex who shocked me with everything he did.In the shadows was full of thrills and I was never able to figure out who the bad guys and the good guys were which is one of the reasons I loved it so much.Any book that can keep me guessing makes it into my list of favorite books.

In the shadows you will find lust and passion, battles for power, blood, death, and fear. For in the shadows you are carried away to a future that is unknown, it is here that your destiny awaits and you are no longer who you thought you were. You have a thirst. Giselle is a normal girl; by normal I mean she has a teens attitude, a steady boyfriend, an awesome best friend who would do ANYTHING for her, and a typical school life. Her family isn't perfect (who is?) but she loves them and her future is looking bright. Graduation is nearing and the world is round, everything is where it should be.right? Certainly some things you don't see coming. Some things are NOT what they seem. How can she be so wrong about someone she loves? How could she possibly be prepared for the darkness? I awoke to the light of the moon shining bright into my eyes. Voices hushed and I could hear the anticipation in their whispered voices. "She is seeking us out. This is truly a night for the Goddess," one of them gleefully remarked. Thrust into a life of blood lust and unforseen challenges. Giselle has to awaken the darkness within to survive. The first steps are scary and overwhelming. The thirst is undeniable and laced with seduction. The challenges keep coming forth as her fight for survival threatens to become a war and she doesn't know who to trust. Enduring heart break and loss, betrayal and fear she undergoes a metamorphosis into an underworld she doesn't feel part of or understand. However she is no longer her former self. She can never be the same again or return to the way things were. She is something else. She is the future. Take a bite out of this delicious forbidden fruit and you will be left wanting more. Make no mistake, In The Shadows is a powerful story of vampire prophesy that, like Giselle, will take you by surprise render you incapable of resistance and seduce you with it's offerings. Julieanne Lynch has skilfully created characters who you can love and hate at the same time, she can make you enjoy the company of the terrifying and fearful of the beautiful. She will make you gasp, she will make you laugh and then she will make you shudder. Be prepared to use all of your senses, reading never smelled so good, tantalised the taste buds or toyed with your pulse like it does in the shadows. Let her weave her spell on you. But be warned. In The Shadows is very hard to put down followed by bitter disappointment as you realise there are no more pages to turn until the next book comes out. This is a forbidden fruit you will want to sink your teeth into. Just be careful it doesn't bite you back as there is no turning back. A Bug in a Book review by Angela Hall.

This book is a thrill a minute ride! I am not normally into vampires, but because of all the great reviews I just had to get my copy of this book and I can safely say that I was not let down or disappointed! Everything the author wrote was amazing. From the beautiful Giselle, to the scheming Atarah, I was hooked. The plot was fast paced, driven, and I followed the storyline so well. The intimate scenes were not overdone, and Giselle is not the whore that some previous reviewers have stated. For any potential readers, ignore the people who skimmed over the book and got the entire plot wrong, this book is the best vampire novel this year and is right up there with the likes of Mead, Caine and Harris. Lynch rocks the vampire genre in a new and refreshing light. I adore this novel and my girlfriend is hooked on the Shadows Trilogy and we cannot wait for the next book to hit the virtual shelves.

What more can be said for this debut from an amazing new author, other than a work of art! I read this book in record time and I can tell you it was magnetic. I couldn't stop reading it and almost cried when it ended. This book was gifted to me by my brother and I am so glad he got it for me. I loved every moment. From the first introduction to Giselle, right through to characters such as Antoine and Afanas I was hooked! Julieanne's writing style is new and unique and isn't busy like some of the authors around today. She leaves you with no doubt about what is happening and just when you think you have everything figured out, she spins you in circles and lets go leaving you gasping for more. This book is for any hardcore vampire/gothic fan! It's thrilling, exciting, heartbreaking and most of all, it is one that will satisfy readers for a long time to come. I love it.

This book has more than you'd expect from a first-time author. Julieanne Lynch indeed knows how to tantalize and feed your hunger. This is a book that not only leaves you gasping for air, but leaves you thirsting for more. Giselle Bergman, is girl who seems to live a normal life, she has a great boyfriend and a best friend who is not only gorgeous, but totally dependable. Things are great, right? You couldn't have got it more wrong. Thrust into a world of darkness and chaos, Giselle fights against all odds to claim back the life she had. She tries to reject the darkness spreading throughout her, but soon realizes that the only way to overcome the curse, she has to embrace the darkness. This story has everything that a novel should possess. It is fast paced, engaging, thrilling, HOT, heartbreaking and something that can easily be ranked amongst the best of its genre. Not only is this novel a high contender to the likes of Richelle Mead, Charlaine Harris etc, it is refreshing and breaks free from the cliches that have dogged down vampiric novels of the past ten years. This is one that could be groundbreaking in more ways than one! Highly recommended to all gothic, vampire lovers out there. Get ready for the ride of your life.

Julieanne's imagination knows no bounds as she casts the young damsel-cum-heroine Gaselle into an epic and sinister adventure that has the reader leaving burnout marks on the corner of each page! The action, romance, lies and truths, bitter betrayals and heart warming moments flow beautifully into one scene and then the next! You can never really guess what will happen next! I want more from Jullieanne, I demand it! Instant fan all around! This book is a great buy for young and mature adults alike. I REALLY think you should consider seeing for yourself just how talented and big time this new author is and will be! Fabulous work, Julieanne! Bravo!

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book. It really wasn't what I was expecting, and after all the hype of Twilight, I wanted to read something refreshing and not predictable. This book is anything but predictable. Yes it is fast paced, and yes it leaves you totally clueless as to what's happening - BUT that is what makes this book just wonderful. Antoine is just mouth watering, and bad boy Alex isn't THAT bad - really. lol. We all love a bad guy - admit it. Anyway, I totally recommend this book to anyone who is sick of Twilight, and all the predictable vampires out there. THIS.IS.DIFFERENT. 5 stars from me!

Julieanne Lynch is a master at the craft of storytelling, weaving the concept of the supernatural and the human world so intricately that the reader truly believes in the possibility of the world she's created. Imprisoned within the walls of her new makers Gothic Estate, 18-year-old Giselle Bergman spends her nights mourning the loss of her short lived human life. After the betrayal of her boyfriend of four years, Giselle seeks revenge; but as most of us know, revenge is bitter. Seeking refuge, she falls into the arms of her best friend Alex, only to learn that most of what she's known about him is fallible. Giselle's choices force her into a world filled with horrors she only believed existed on screen. As the truth of myths and legends is revealed to her, Giselle is forced to place her trust in strangers. Strangers who have their own agendas and who see her as merely a pawn in their game. Just when it seems her situation couldn't possibly get any worse, Giselle's world is ripped from under her and new dangers arise. Lynch's take on the vampire world is unique and unlike any other I've read. In the Shadows is filled with passion, lust, and an array of alluring vampires (whom you both love and hate) with just the right amount of edge. The end will leave you frustrated but only because you're eager to know what comes next. If your poison of choice is YA paranormal fiction than In the Shadows is the book for you. It will not disappoint!

WOW, this was one book I was not expecting to take me on an adrenaline filled journey. It was fantastic. After the first chapter, Alex and Giselle had my attention, and holy Christ, I would never have seen that 'one' coming. The author knew how to get us to trust Alex and then wham, she hit us with 'that'. Giselle wasn't your average heroine. Pitted against some of the dodgiest creatures, she fell hard a few times, but I liked her. It was refreshing to read about a girl who wasn't your average kick-ass protagonist. From what I can gather this book is only the beginning of Giselle's story and I can only imagine her adventure is going to get more wild. I love it and can't wait for book two.

In the Shadows author Julieanne Lynch weaves together a fascinating tale. Told from the point of view of 18 year-old Giselle Bergman, we follow her through a labyrinth of mystery and deceit as her world is unraveled by a lair of vampires. In The Shadows sits firmly on a foundation of strong characters, interesting plot twists and credible writing. I highly recommend this book. MJ Preston Author THE EQUINOX

This book was one I couldn't put down. I couldn't wait to see what happened to Giselle next. She gets thrust from her life in a normal town to one full of vampires and darkness. She is a high school senior and now she even finds out her mother is I'll as well.

I received this book from the author to give an honest review. I do have to say this was a very good book, but to me it is not suitable for YA there is a lot of explicit content in here. That being said I felt so bad for the main character Giselle she was forced into a life she did not want to live. Her so called best friend Alex who at first I thought was the good guy turned into the bad guy, and I found myself wanting to slap him. With the vampires in this book they are not good they are evil, they have an evil agenda. Like most vampire books you get the girl who wants to live the lifestyle and she finds this romantic vampire and they run away happily ever after for eternity well not here. Giselle doesn't know who to trust, she is abused, and at times frightened. But she has to be strong to live and figure out what to do not only for her but for someone else.  Now where the ending left off I can tell there is going to be a second book and I can not wait to read it. I want to see if Giselle and Antoine will live and will Giselle be Queen or will she figure something out.  This is an amazing paranormal story that you should give a read!

I can not tell you how much I love this book. Julieanne writes an amazing world told by Giselle an 18 year old who gets thrown into a world she doesn’t know or understand but if she hopes to survive she needs to learn quickly who she can trust. Giselle is hurt by her boyfriend and turns to her best friend Alex but he is not what he seems and Giselle learns quickly that he can be mean and spiteful. Alex is a vampire and thinks Giselle would make the perfect wife and mother to his child so he forces her to leave with him and he turns her against her wishes. Through everything thrown at Giselle she does find love with Leonid and a friend in Antoine. But just as she is staring to understand this new world of hers it gets flip upside down again on her with the death of Leonid who swore to protect her. With nothing left to do she flees with Antoine and her unborn baby to find safety from Alex. Julieanne’s writing flows perfectly and she describes the characters in detail. I feel like I know them and can not wait to see where they go in the next book. With a story line that is filled with twists, turns, and surprises it will have you turning your pages to see what happens next. ..

I didn't like this. At all. The story went too fast, and was very uneven in places. It felt like something a teenaged girl would jot down in her diary after a Twilight marathon. Not that I dislike Twilight, this is just a cheap knock-off. Pass on it, don't waste your time.
