About the Author

Ruth Ann Nordin has written seventy romances, ranging from Regencies to historical westerns to contemporaries. She plays with other genres from time to time, but her first love is romance. She has been happily married for eighteen years to a sweet and funny guy, and they have four sons, who are all taller than Ruth now that they're 12, 13, 14, and 16. The good thing is she doesn't need a ladder, and there's always someone to take care of a mouse that squeezes its way into her Montana home. She considers herself very lucky to have led such a charmed life. Being able to play with characters and create stories is just icing on the cake. Hopefully, she'll get to keep doing this many years to come.

I'm a full time caretaker for an elderly family member, and I look forward to having something 'light' to read when I finally have time at the end of the day. This book may not have been entirely grammatically or historically correct, but that did not keep me from enjoying it. While it had a bit of a predictable plot (as many romance novels do), it still had enough twists and details to hold my attention. I thought it carried just enough humor, and 'current day references' to keep it fresh and not allow the reader to get bogged down in too much 'history'. This is what kept it 'light' for my purposes, and very enjoyable. It was well worth the .99 cents, and had more pages than other books I've paid $15 or more for. The characters of "Jake and Sue" (and I liked that Ruth Ann named her "Sue" vs "Susan", "Susannah" etc, that you might expect for that time period), stick with me even now, so that's an indicator of my enjoyment. My expectations initially may have been at a low-medium level, but it ended up exceeding my expectations. I would recommend it for anyone looking for an easy and inexpensive read!

This is one of those stories where the man has to marry in order to inherit but Ruth Ann Nordin is such a good author that the story is fresh and full of twists and turns. It's funny and keeps your attention the whole way through. I love her stories.

Unlike a lot of other reviewers I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I'm not an expert on when things were or were not invented so I didn't care about "trash bags", "zippers" or whatever else other reviewers mentioned so that didn't phase me in any way. I did notice a couple of grammer errors, but I've heard that happens to ebooks a fair amount, no clue why though. The "different fonts" that some reviewers complained about were used when the main male character, Jake, was saying comments to himself. For instance, at one part of the story there was a dinner party of about 10 men and after one man left it stated "one down 9 to go" in a different font, meaning that's what Jake was thinking to himself. Personally, I caught on real quick and thought it was extremely funny. About the sex scene, I've read other Ruth Ann Nordin's books and the sex scenes in all the ones I've read (this was my 8th book by the author) are all the same. Believe you me, this was not in any way shape or form a porno book. I thoughly enjoyed this book and thought it was comical, especially when Jake finds out the truth about the men from the dinner party and when Jake was dealing with Sue's brothers. I would definitely recommend this book. I've got a few other Ruth Ann Nordin's books that I intend to read and she has become one of my fav authors.

Not sure what others are reffering to when they say things did match time periods, like zippers were newly invented and reading by bedside lamp. I thought this took place in 2010 as it states in thr very firt line of the book. It was a great read. Predictable at times but fun. There was one sex scence and it wasn,t even close to overdone. Next time skip it and use your imagination, if you have one. I am giving 4 stars because many words were clearly missing and men were refered to as she, confusing at times.

Great story. I couldn't put it down. It was refreshing to read a romance novel where I could follow the development of the relationship instead of "meet, have lots of sex, the end".

This time the groom is marrying to claim his inheritance, but the bride stands to make a few bucks from the deal, too. She is not meek and will not suffer any foolishness, even to get the bucks. This is quite good and humorous.

It is as if it were written in the 21st Century! If not for the horse and buggies you would not believe it was not written in today's times! I so enjoyed this story! Surprises and a great ending! ENJOY! I did!

Somehow this author, writing about 1899, does not know how people lived then. Sending telegrams from one home to another in or near the same community? Reading in bed at night would not have been done. Using zippers on suitcases when zippers were newly invented or when they began using them in suitcases. And it drives me nuts!! And where are the editors???
