Ever wondered why the Scottish woods are so wild? Why it's dangerous to be out at night? Why, even on beautiful moonlit nights, it's safer to be nestled up beside a crackling fire? Roberta Arlington and the residents of Ridgewood are about to find out.

Roberta Arlington lives in Ridgewood, a small and sleepy town on the Scottish border, where she is completely content with her life. That is, until she stumbles upon a corpse at the local boarding school and finds that her world starts to unravel into chaos.

As questions begin to emerge as to just how the victim died, Roberta discovers herself caught in a world which she never knew existed. Like a shadow hanging behind Roberta's own life, another world hovers in the background, waiting silently until trying to break through. Roberta soon discovers that she'll have to find all the strength she has to survive the path laid before her.

Inside Evil is a paranormal mystery that will only leave you wanting more.

I found Inside Evil to be a thrilling read. I was first brought to the book by the intense cover and the concept looked interesting so I thought I'd give it a go. The author of this book doesn't wait before plunging straight into the pace of this book, and after Roberta catches a viral like plague her world starts to change. She becomes angry for no reason, finds it hard to focus and seems to go on a self destructive journey, attacking those who stand in her way. It can be a little hard to like Roberta because she is rather crazy in this novel, but I liked the originality - a lead character who you don't necessarily love alot until you suddenly realize that she's being influenced by the curse and she can't help her actions and that the Ridgewood residents have to work together to save her life. I really liked the different characters in this book and the way that they all played towards the final goal of trying to save Roberta's life. Martha and Susan were my favourite duo. I also like Karl Frans but thought his story could have been fleshed out a little more. Overall I really enjoyed this read. The last third of the book is very fast paced and I found it difficult to put it down. The book comes to a nice resolution but offers the promise of more to come and I'm eager to see what the next book....if there is one...has in store. A great read.

The book got off to a very good start but then it really bogged down. There were just page upon page of a woman in the woods. There was no real explanation about what the evil was, no real resolution. Somewhere at midpoint it just veered away and the author never came back to the story. I began just fast scanning the pages at about page 200 and didn't miss anything which is not good. It needs to be heavily re-edited.

Inside Evil is the first in a trilogy by G.Wakeling. If your a lover of series but hate the wait, then you'll be pleased to know that the second book, 'Tower of Souls', is already published. Being a huge fantasy fan, not so much a sci-fi fan, I have to admit that this is not the sort of book I would normally choose to read. Oh how lovely a surprise it was to discover that Inside Evil was packed with oodles of mystery and leans more to fantasy than sci-fi.  So why DID I choose to read it? Well, Who wouldn't want to read a book titled 'Inside Evil'?  It was a tweet by Wakeling that caught my attention, wedged between the hundreds of other similar author tweets, but this was just a few words followed by the title and link, which in turn led me to discover how appealing the cover was.    Inside Evil is set in the small town of Ridgewood. Like most small British towns it's residence are at ease and more than likely bored, that is untill an ancient curse rears it's ugly head.  With a plot that keeps you on edge and wandering what Wakeling will pull out of the bag next, this story is perfect for those lovers of Dark, Eerie and mysterious places. With characters that come to life (and some to death), there's a wide range of personalites for anyone to realate to, ranging from funny and naughty to paranoid and sad. This is a great read, and although a little slow in one or two places, Wakeling manages to make this flow straight into the thick of the plot, which in essence works in the books favour making it an easy read with intense and dark scenes to get the heart beating. His descriptions are sublime and he writes with passion,  and for those 'word' lovers  he likes to throw in a few corkers, leaving you with no real work to do except sit back, relax and enjoy the story. A great first book by G.wakeling.

I was asked to read this book for a fair and honest review by the author. To be honest this book took me longer than normal to read. I can usually read a book in 2 days. This one took much longer than that. The story didn't seem to flow very well. I found it alternated between being sluggish and too fast paced. There were also things I wish that were explained more that were not. I think if there was more of an explanation of what was really going on in the town would of been better. I think the story needed more of a backstory of how things started and not just concentrate on the present.
