Overview

Inside Passage by Burt Weissbourd

Corey Logan was set up. She knows Nick Season’s terrible secret. Coming home from prison, all Corey wants is to be with her son. To get him back, she needs to make a good impression on the psychiatrist evaluating her. But Dr. Abe Stein doesn’t believe she was framed—until his well-heeled mother falls for the charming state attorney general candidate, Nick Season.

As the dogs of war are unleashed, Corey and her son run for their lives—taking her boat up the Pacific Northwest’s remote Inside Passage. Inside Passage is the first in Weissbourd’s haunting, heart-stirring Corey Logan trilogy.

Inside Passage is a literary thriller. Corey Logan, the heroine, is a woman who can do everything--fish, build, shoot, think, love. She has been sent to prison on trumped-up charges; and upon her release, in order to regain custody of her teenage son, must convince Dr. Abe Stein, a Jewish psychiatrist, that she is innocent, and moreover, in terrible jeopardy. Abe starts out a bumbler, but he grows into a hero. There is a real villain, too, Nick Seasons (perhaps he is too much of a villain, but then he is part of what makes the story so riveting) who is the lover of Abe's mother. Add in spectacular chase scenes by air and boat in the Northwest, which is beautifully, lyrically described. The suspense doesn't let up for a moment but, thank heavens, Corey and Abe, sympathetic and memorable, survive and the reader can look forward to the promised sequel.

Suspenseful, exciting, and touching; this book has characters that you really care about and a pace that keeps you turning pages. I couldn't put it down.

Some books are mostly plot. Good for airplanes. Some are character driven with a nod to plot. A few can take your senses to an imaginary world where you smell the woodsmoke. Every now and then a writer comes along who does all of these. Mr. Weissbourd is such a writer. Bravo, sir. Please keep writing. Please bring Corey Logan and company back soon.

Inside Passage is a well-written character-driven thriller that is hard to put down once you start reading.  It was not surprising to me to read that Burt Weissbourd was a film producer.  The novel has a very cinemagraphic quality, quite beautiful.  I am also happy to know that this novel is the first in a trilogy.  I'm looking forward to reading more about Corey Logan.
