On an exceptionally important topic, this book gives some insights into Pope Francis by exploring his background as a Jesuit. But the author, himself a former Jesuit, praises himself as as an expert on the Society of Jesus, and then shows little evidence of experience with Jesuits currently under the age of 65 or so. Kaiser's knowledge of the Jesuits is mainly from the 1950s and 1960s. There are some factual errors, but more annoying is the author's extreme arrogance. It is a dated, impressionistic, rapidly written book, rather than one up-to-date, carefully researched and written.
