Interviewing in Depth: The Interactive-Relational Approach / Edition 1

In-depth interviews are used extensively across the social sciences by qualitative researchers and professionals. The traditional, empirical interview does not develop a relationship between the interviewer and interviewee and minimizes the interviewer's personal reaction to the interviewee. However, what if the interviewer seeks a more profound exploration and fuller understanding of the individual being studied?

The interactive-relational method is a real, living, practical approach to know someone.  It’s honesty and vitality produces the kind of real results Dr. Chirban presents.  We need more on this so that those of us who feel like we have to suppress our energy for a classical method can reclaim our true approach to our own interview.  Well done!

This book has taught me a great deal about how important the interviewer is in the interviewing process. By engaging its reader into a great deal of self-discovery and reflection, you are awakened to your impact and significance for a successful interview.   I have made this book required reading in my counseling courses.

Who would expect to see Lucille Ball and B.F. Skinner as living case studies and models in a text about effective interviewing? This book was a real treat! Fascinating insights about what a psychologist sees in interviewing and how to make an interview deeper and richer--as well as an unexpected yet interesting engagment with two very different leaders in our time.

I was looking for a book that would make me think deeply about both my life, and the lives of others. I needed a story with "depth." Chirban has a put together a great book, and a perfect balance of fact/research and analysis.
