Overview

As young children, the lives of Seven Thomas and Lisa Harris briefly connect after Lisa's parents unexpectedly abandon her. Their interaction had a profound effect on them both. When Lisa is sent to live with relatives, the two are sure they will never see each other again.

Eighteen years later, Seven often wonders what happened to the girl who lived down the hall. He never forgot her or the objectionable circumstances under which they lived. Lisa, now twenty-six, realizes that she has lived in a cocoon for years, putting her life on hold to care for her grandmother. Upon her grandmother's death, she has no regrets, only an eagerness to begin anew. Lisa throws herself back into life, but after years of abuse, she shies away from romantic connections.

Fate steps in at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, bringing Seven and Lisa face to face with the past-and possibly their future. Seven is still scarred by his childhood-his father's absence and his mother's prostitution-and Lisa has never experienced true intimacy. Will they be able to take their lives in a new direction?

Introduction to Love and Self tells the passionate tale of a man and woman who share an indelible connection. Follow them as they embark upon a tantalizing sexual journey, seeking the trust and love that each desperately craves.

I absolutely loved the story line. The characters were strong and the twist at the end added enough of a thrill to keep the pages turning. I enjoyed reading a book that is written in the language I speak with correct grammar and punctuation! Great book Joan! Can't wait for the ones to follow.

This character takes you within and then shows how human this character is, brings a sense of realism to his character. Shows you how to love and be loved. Good book to curl up with, an easy read!

Introduction to Love & Self is a powerful read that brings many emotions to the surface. This novel gives hope that there is some good in every situation encountered in life. The story begins with young characters, Seven and Lisa, who reside in separate dysfunctional homes. Seven¿s mom lives the street life to support herself and her son. Lisa¿s parents abandon her, and she is forced to live with relatives. Almost two decades pass before fate brings Lisa and Seven together again. They rekindle their friendship that blossoms into a whirlwind passionate relationship. The tale speaks volumes to the effects that foundations have on our lives. Seven was born as a result of a violation, so he never knew his father. His mother withheld this pertinent information to protect her son, but the not knowing makes life for Seven even more difficult. The book stirs up feelings of love, happiness, pain, regret and laughter ¿ all within 186 pages. Introduction to Love & Self sets the stage for healing of old wounds and scars. This story will make you rethink secrets and their impact on the lives of all involved ¿ the known and the unknown. Ms. Vassar is definitely a writer to watch. Her writing style is with ease, and she leaves no character without his/her own personality. Kudos to the author! We are waiting on your next book.

I really loved this book! The characters were richly drawn and believable. The language was a bit raw, but that too was believable. Well worth the read. Keep up the good work, Joan.

I thought the first paragraph was heavy. I wasn't sure if I could finish the book, but I kept going. It was wonderful. Provacative, emotional, sexy and just plain deep. Seven is my kind of guy.

This book allowed you into the hearts and minds of the characters. It was so well written. The story line shows others that where we are from and who conceived us doesn't entirely make up who we are. It is the relationships, experiences and tribulations along the way that makes up who and how we are. This writer shows unconditional love in a way some of us can only dream of. She shows the determinaton and effort it takes to be successful in life and love. This book is unpredictable and keeps you wondering about whats going to happen next, such so that it is very hard to put the book down and you may end up reading it in one sitting. I am shock to know this is her first book and look forward to hopefully many more. Don't take my word for it, try it for youself. I promise you will not be disappointed, only mesmerized and looking for more.

Seven¿s childhood was not easy. His mother sold her body to provide food and shelter. She would send him outside to stand in front of the building while she met with a customer. She loved him, but knew she was a lousy mother. Seven¿s temper was quick, and he did not hesitate to hit when someone made remarks about his mom. Lisa lived down the hall from Seven. Her father was a mean drunk and never hesitated to beat her. Lisa was eight-years-old and Seven was ten when she discovered her parents had moved out, deserting her. Lisa went to live with her grandmother. Now a successful businessman, Seven saw Lisa working at a conference. Soon the two became inseparable. They were deeply in love. Hidden answers to questions came to light, causing Seven to question his existence. An Introduction To Love and Self by Joan Vassar is a love story. Seven discovers that he must learn to love himself and accept who he is before he can truly love Lisa. The plot and characters are well-developed. Bobbi and Betty are delightful characters. Both are written with just the right amount of humor. Seven and Lisa play well together. Seven¿s anguish was hisown agony. I enjoyed this story and eagerly turned the pages. Vassar is a talented author I think we will hear more from her.

I never expected a book with a city skyline onthe cover to draw out such emotion in my soul. This book touches on a wide array of emotions and draws you in from the very first page. I was hooked and simply could not put it down. I was immediately touched by the relationships in this book between Seven and Lisa and felt a strong connection to both characters from the beginning.

It has been a long time since a book has taken me to a different place filled with heartache, love, sorrow, achievements, and everyday family situations(that occur more than people would like to mention). I just fell head over heels for Seven. Ms. Vassar's writing is brilliant. You can visibly see the story as it unfolds. Make sure you have half the day before reading this one, because you will be hooked on it from page 1.This novel is just plain REAL - no sugar coating and I loved that! I can't wait for the next read. Brilliant!

Excellent reading, could not put it down. Finally a book written portraying Black males positively, and Black females with virture in spite of both their troubled beginnings. And the romance between the both was heartwarming, even with the ups and downs...they stayed together. The rest of the family was easy to relate to as well. It was well written, so I felt like I knew the characters. Now that's a GOOD BOOK! BRAVO ! Can't wait for her next write.
