Invisible (Ivy Malone Series #1) by Lorena McCourtney

She's not your average crime fighter!

Meet Ivy Malone, an inconspicuous older woman who has a mutant curiosity gene that often lands her in trouble. Unlike most women her age, she snoops and pries her gray-haired self into one hilarious escapade after another. So when vandals romp through the local cemetery, Ivy can't help but put her snooping eyes to work as she launches her own unofficial investigation.

Despite her unconventional sleuthing, Ivy soon becomes discouraged by her failure to turn up any solid clues. And after Ivy witnesses something ominous and unexplained, she can't resist putting her investigative powers to work again. Even the authorities' attempts to keep her out of danger and her nosy neighbor's match-making schemes can't slow Ivy down. But will the determination that fuels this persistent, spunky sleuth threaten her very safety?

"I laughed out loud. McCourtney's charming mystery debuts a voice both enchanting and startling."-Colleen Coble, author of Without a Trace

"McCourtney's skill at blending whimsy, quirks, and questions into a lead character makes Invisible a must read."-Lois Richer, author of Dangerous Sanctuary

"Invisible is a treat! Ivy Malone is a heroine with spunk and determination!"-Carol Cox, author of A Stitch in Time

This was another one of my freebie finds, which fell into the Christian fiction chasm. At the time, I wasn't aware that I was grabbing books all classified by the CF genre; but since I went on a mad downloading spree, I decided to read them anyhow. This one had the added twist of being a mystery. Of all the CF books I've read, I enjoyed this one the most. Ms. McCourtney writes a clean mystery (no swearing, violence, gratuitous sex) that has a fun, quick witted style/pace. Ivy is a real hoot. Picture a scatterbrained Agatha Christie. Her humor gave me a chuckle or two & the mystery (although I solved it before the end) had some surprising twists and turns. Best of all, Ivy addresses the issue of aging and becoming an 'invisible' part of our oversexed, 'Bay Watch'- brainwashed culture. I would recommend this book...if you don't mind the 'God Speak' to anybody looking for an easy to read mystery. It is best described as 'cute' (and I mean that in a good way). It will give you a laugh or two for sure. As a bonus, the first book gives you a chapter peek into book II, where Ivy is still dealing with the same sinister clan she thought she'd taken down in book I. From what I read, the transition is very smooth. Plus, the books are very reasonable (in eBook format).

I liked this mystery well enough, although it's somewhat predictable. The character is fairly intriguing, and she did some things that surprised me. Unfortunately, I saw no warnings that the book would be pushing church on people every few pages. I've read books that had "Christian" protagonists, but the authors didn't let that get in the way of the story. It's not a bad book, but there's too much proselytizing here, too much shoving people towards religion. At this point, I don't know if I'll read more of the series, even though I liked the book overall.

Not every heroine has to be 20 and beautiful. Here we have Ivy a 60+ widow who will keep you laughing & on the edge of your seat wondering what trouble she'll find next. I've already purchased the next two books.

Ivy Malone may be elderly, but she's still physically and mentally intact. With nothing better to do with her time -- she's totally disinterested in age-appropriate activities like knitting and playing cards -- she keeps finding herself unable to resist satisfying her curiosities. McCourtney's writing is brilliant and really brings Ivy's world to life. Note: Ivy is a church-going Protestant and this is clear in many passages throughout the story, so those with an aversion to that sort of material might want to give this a pass.

I "found" this book looking at free books. What a joy it was! I love Ivy as she reminds me of both of my grandmothers! She is hilarious! I also love the fact that she is a christian! It is so refreshing to read a good murder mystery with no foul language and no detailed sexual escapades! I have now read the first two and cant wait to start the next! PLEASE MS MCCOURTNEY, CONTINUE THIS SERIES BEYOND THE 4TH!

Great Fun! How fortunate noone notices old people. Being invisible works perfectly for Ivy Malone. She gets a kick out of searching for the truth and clues to solve crime puzzles. Miss Marple and Murder She Wrote enthusiasts will love this one!! Fun, light read.

I got this book because it was so reasonable.... then to my surprise I thoroughly enjoyed every page. This is the first Christian Mystery book I had read and was so pleased with how it was done. I so enjoyed this book that I have read the other 3 books of the series in such a short time as they sure are hard to put down. Soft, sensitive and a good storyline. Completely recommend this series to any mystery lover.

This free book is more well written than many I have purchased. It is funny and the author has a clever way of describing things. I was not looking for a Christian fiction book but I enjoyed it and would purchase more books from this author in the future.

I really enjoyed this book. It was my first Christian fiction book and I am now going to seek these out. It was so nice getting to read a woman whose got God with her and acts like it. Such a cute and funny main character also. Really good!

I loved this book! It kept me interested and I loved the situations the main character kept getting herself into. It is written in the vein of the Miss Marple mysteries. This one is free, but I will be buying the next book!!!

Great book. I Can't wait to read the next book in the series. It is not a dark mystery and thats why I liked it. I also liked that there was no bad language or sex, and that the main character is a christian. Some reviews I have read have complained about that. There are christian undertones, but thats not the basis of the story. Just a fun lighthearted read.

I selected this book because it was a Free Friday mention. The description of the book sounded like a fun mystery that I might enjoy. However, it is not categorized as a Christian book and should be. Not a chapter goes by that the main character is not talking about church, going to church, convincing someone to go to church with her, or quoting the Bible. It has nothing to do with the main plot and frankly, is distracting. I'm sure there are many Christian readers who would love a book like this and will never find it because it isn't categorized correctly.

Ivy is a terrific character: interesting, resourceful, intrepid, and smart. My problem came with the way her religion is handled. I'd hoped to watch a woman steeped in her religious faith solve a mystery. But what the author does is sprinkle in a handful of mentions that remind us that Ivy is a SUPPOSED to be religious. The mentions seem to come out of nowhere. The book is a fast read, but I don't plan to read any more Ivy Malone books.

This is a really good, light weight mystery book. I love Ivy, and think shes pretty funny. I really did enjoy this book. People on here act like her talking about God is worst thing that could ever be written. Not to mention its not supposed to be a psychological thriller, its a cozy mystery. So if you want to read something quick and light i would recommend this and the others in the series as well.

This is a fun read.  It's not an intellectual read, but as a quick, change of pace, light book, it fills the bill.  It is on par with Evanovitch sans sex and that is OK.  The Christian focus of the character did not bother me; it was how she views the world.  I like that not every book and character has to share my personal world view.  I would recommend this as a fun, light read.

I did not enjoy this book at all. Very boring. I lost interest in second chapter.

I adore this whole series. Older people will love it BUT so will the younger crowd. I've found a new character to explore and enjoy.

LOVE! This was such a nice change. I wasn't sure what to expect but decided to try since it was free and boy am I glad I did. Knowing what I know now I would not mind paying for this at all! Found myself laughing out loud and most of the time I am hard to please. You will not regret giving this book a try.
