Gr 4-8-A short overview of the country, its history and culture, and its current political situation. The book features 30 Web sites that are accessed via password through a My Reportlinks page provided by the publisher. The sites are of high quality and include links to many Iranian sites such as the Tehran Times and the Islamic Republic News Agency, as well as the BBC and CNN. However, a number of these sites, while accurate and informative, are too advanced for the book's audience. Many full-color photos are included; in several cases, they are placed near unrelated Web site topics. A photograph of the Empress Farah with her husband the Shah is misidentified as a photograph of the Shah's first wife, Arya Mehr. The actual text is fairly brief and seems oversimplified at times. Buy this one for the webliography; better overviews of Iranian culture and history for this age group include Masoud Kheirabadi's Iran (Chelsea House, 2003) or April Fast's Iran volumes in the "Lands, Peoples, and Cultures" series (Crabtree, 2005).-Kathleen E.
