Many thanks to the author who asked me to read and review this extraordinary book.
This story is taken right out of the daily newspaper. It's a realistic look at the racial division we've seen recently ... black church bombings ... police shootings. This is a fictional story based on what's happening in our country today.
It's also a story about how media looks at the news, covers the news. Is it slanted toward only one person's beliefs? What happened to the days when reporters did just that .. report the news without a bias? It makes one wonder if there is anything left to trust.
Some of it, I found disturbing. Some of it, I found enlightening. Some of it, I felt hopeful.
The author has breathed life into his characters. Joe Rordan is a newspaper editor doing the best he can to save his newspaper. He's the first African-American editor in this small town. And he's leading the investigations into the murders of a politician, and the minister of a historic Alabama church.
The local law enforcement, with Riordan's help are searching for a bomber .... at the same time trying to keep the town from imploding.
This made for excellent reading! A fascinating way of looking at politics, racism, journalism
