The early identification and management of the risk factors for ischemic stroke can lead to substantial improvement in health and reductions in cost. However, research has documented gaps between healthcare professionals' knowledge and practice with respect to prevention, with data on adherence to evidence-based or guideline-endorsed recommendations demonstrating underuse or ineffective use of all interventions for primary and secondary prevention. The purpose of this course is to provide needed information about the roles of diagnosis and screening, evaluation of individuals with suspected stroke, immediate treatment of stroke, and the elements of effective rehabilitation programs so that healthcare professionals may implement the necessary interventions appropriately. In addition, members of the public may use this course to enhance their personal knowledge of the subject matter presented.
